Lorelai, letting out a sigh as she went outside to find the garden she heard so much about. Wearing her comfortable normal outfit of jeans with a camisole covered by one of her favorite hoodies, she found the flowery entrance to the place she sought out.
The garden was relaxing to her, and she thought that this would be a good place to hide and think when she needed to. Always she had too many thoughts zooming though her head, unnecessary thoughts, necessary ones, all of the above basically, and she often needed release from it. She happily thought that dealing with mere flowers would help to take a break from her busy mind every so often, and walking around with her hands in her pockets she looked for her favorite kind of flower.
Trudging lightly on the grass she could hear crunching softly under her footsteps, she glanced around at the well manicured bushes and flower patches and sighed again. Lorelai was liking it already, she was calmed by its beauty and it only got better when she found what she was looking for. Walking towards the flowers, she smiled as she plucked a red rose from its group of fellow roses and held it delicately between two fingers. She smiled at it and went to sit on the bench that was conveniently placed there.
Holding the rose like that still, she noticed that its liveliness began to fade and shrivel up, the coldness from her fingers freezing the flower, killing it. Her content smile slid from her face as she saw what she had done to it, and she quickly let it slip out of her fingers, not wanting to let it get any worse as she stared at it with a sad but slightly hurt expression on her face. She shook her head, trying to shake the feeling she weird feeling she felt but it wouldn't go away, and she couldn't stop staring at it uneasily.

Torri walked mournfully through the memorial gardens. Having been there for most of the day it had made the antagonisingly cold weather more bearable. Although, it did seem pointless that she was carrying around her thin brown coat, it did nothing to keep the bitterly cold winds from her pale and almost blue skin. Much to her dislike in its normal state.
She noticed somene nearer the front of the garden though, so im not alone... she thought uncaringly. Looking toward the ground she called out to her, "You alright? Summat happened?" her voice almost at a yell as it was naturally very quiet. She rubbed her arms with her icy hands, trying to get a source of heat for herself, although nothing came of it as usual and she ended up even colder from exposing her skin to the cold air.
She saw the other girl, whom she remembered as one of her teammates looking even more upset, and began a half run over to her, trying to forget to bitter and nippping sensation she had all around her, which in turn made her skin raise and become bumpy with goosepimples. "Hey, you alright?" she asked again, a bit more worriedly than before. It was a strange habbit that Shimmer had, to not want to be around people, but then feel this certain compulsion to make sure that they were alright. Something she was foreign to receiving herself, but daren't let it get to her, after all, she was in a better place than her old home now, alot better. And here she wasn't alone, she was with others with what her mother called a 'disability'. "Can i help?" she said a bit quieter as she reached the girl, looking at her with soft eyes and hoping for a positive responce.

Hearing a voice approach, Lorelai lifted her head but her eyes didn't leave the ground. After a minute of letting it register that she wasn't alone anymore, she lifted her eyes and turned her head to see the girl she remembered had run out of the infirmary that day of the Danger Room. She could see her shiver, though despite the cold, Lorelai felt nothing; that is to say, she felt normal.
She heard the concern in her voice and then snapped out of the thoughts she began thinking about. "Oh, oh, I'm fine. Just had an odd moment. I killed the rose. I'm too cold for it," she said, glancing back at the shriveled thing with a frown. "I appreciate the help, but if you were able to make me be not so cold sometimes, then I'd like that. It's just that.. roses are my favorite flower, and seeing them here made me happy, and I picked one. Holding it in just two fingers made it die so quickly. It made me sad that I killed it, since it's such a beautiful thing, you know?" she said, realizing she was rambling.
"Sorry I'm going on and on," she said quickly, feeling as if she must have been boring her with her little speech. Normally she didn't mind having her powers and she liked them enough, but just the inabilty to enjoy a simple pleasure she could before depressed her. "Anyways, I don't know if you remember my name, but I'm Lorelai Kavanagh. Codename Frostbite," she said with a small attempted smile. And I live up to that name well, sadly, she thought to herself.

Torri smiled sadly at her teammate and felt like reaching over to touch her shoulder in sympathy, although, she decided against it given the state of the rose. "Look, don't worry. We all have things we wish we weren't able to do unwillingly. All of us......'people'" she said, forcing out the word. It was hard for her to think like she was a normal person, a normal little girl with her life ahead of her in normal if she so chose it. Although, somehow she was scared that she would never leave this school, never feel ready to face being alone again outside it's safe bariers.
Looking a little more nervous than before, Torri moved to stand on the side of her feet, shifting her weight between the two sides. "Um... I'm Torri Moor.... well....Shimmer here really." she said quietly as she looked down to the ground to cover her face with her hair which fell across it easily. "and, um...well....whats so bad about your.....'gift' that makes it so hard to keep yourself warm. Mine is just....awkward....but still..." she said softly, only looking up for a split second before returning her gaze to the ground.

The large man walked casually through the Garden he tended to. He took great pride in all the plants. As he was walking along he noticed two of his students conversing. Thinking this might be a good time to speak with them he approached slowly and with a big smile. "Greetings girls. It is good to see you out here. I do hope you enjoy the Garden. It took a lot of work. So how are we doing today?" He asked as he rested his arms behind his back.

Lorelai nodded with a sort of half smile, understanding Torri. She turned to her to see her hair had fallen in front of her face, and she tilted her head a bit. She seemed so unsure of herself, that was easy to see, and she looked at her and spoke, "My powers make it hard for me to hold anything that can be affected muchly by the cold. As I've seen from you, you can become invisible. Sometimes I wish I could do that, but we are who we are," she said, her smile growing a little as she saw Torri's eyes flick at her and then to the ground.
Seeing her team leader approach her and Torri, she put on another smile and disregarded the dead rose for now. "Hello sir. Yes, I enjoy the garden, it's quite beautiful, just as long as I don't touch anything. I'm alright, thank you sir, and you?" she asked, answering him with a kind smile.

Looking to the roses and then to Frostbite Colossus smiled. "Please, call me Colossus. And Im glad you are enjoying the Garden. If you would like to tend to some of the flowers and such. PLease let me know. I would enjoy the company and the help. "Hearing the comment about touching things he shook his head. "I know its rough dealing with your abilities. But there are ways to work around that. And hopefully soon enough we will help you get more control over your power."

Lorelai half smiled again, "Alright then.. Colossus. The garden is great, and I'd love to help, you need only say when," she said smiling a little bit more, happy at the thought of being able to spend more time in there, but slightly frowned when she saw the dead rose again. Turning back to Colossus, she spoke again, "That is something to work on, definitely. Roses are my favorite and it bothered me to have killed one," she said, looking down at the ground.

He chuckled and reached into his back pocket. Pulling out a pair of gloves and the pruning shears. He offered them to Frostbite. "Here you are. I always carry them when I come out here, you never know when you might spot something you need to take care of. So gloves and shears. Now you can work on the roses without fear of hurting them." He grinned and winked. "So now, If you like, you can come out here every other day and look over the roses. Picking out the dead ones and cleaning the stems for new ones. Also, when class starts, I would like it if you would join my arts class. I think with your power and your natural skill. We could do a lot in the class."

Lorelai smiled and took the gloves and shears from Colossus, looking at them in her hands. "Thanks," she said, looking back up at him with a smile, holding up the gloves especially, returning his grin with a softer one. "I'll do my best, Colossus. And art sounds good too, I'll give that a try as well," she answered with a smile, feeling better about things. She liked her team leader. He was really nice.

"Very good then. I look forward to it." He said with a wide smile and nod. Then he knelt down next to the rose bushes and began to examine them carefully. He was a large man, but he had a delicate touch and a gentle nature. "So tell me Lorelai, how has your time here been? Any problem settling in?" Colossus never wanted to pry into a young womans buisness. It was the easiest way to drive a young woman away. But he wanted to make sure everything was comfortable for her.

Lorelai smiled and watched as Colossus bent down to look at the rose bushes and she could see how gentle he was with them. "Ah well, I like it here, it's been interesting to say the least," she laughed, lightly scratching an arm absentmindedly as she answered. "I've at least got a couple of friends I think, and even maybe a not-so-much friend," she murmured as she turned her attention to the roses as well.

The large man chuckled deeply and nodded. "I am sure that in time most everyone will come to rely on each other. Even now I have my disagreements with some of the other teachers. But i still respect them and count them as great friends. Its a tough time for young mutants. " He never held back with what he and everyone here was. They were all indeed mutants, but instead of considering that a bad word. He took it as a compliment. Being different wasn't always bad.
"All of you are growing into your powers, and into yourselves at the same time. Everyone deals with all the changes differently. If you ever need to talk about anything. I would be happy to listen." He casually went back to picking the dead leaves off the stems. Still listening but trying to keep the conversation light and simple.

Hearing Colossus' chuckle, Lorelai couldn't help but chuckle lightly herself as a cool breeze rustled her blue hair, but it didn't seem cold to her at all, "Yeah, probably. Either that or come together when it really matters. The teachers seem nice, I haven't really talked to any of them. Miss Frost, a bit, but no one else really. You're just about the only teacher I've talked to the most, and as far as other students go, I've got maybe two friends so far. I don't need that many really, but as long as I have one I'm good. But like I said, another I don't think likes me too much.." she trailed off, thinking of Heather, but shrugged it off, not about to let her dourness make her current mood sour.
Glancing at Colossus, she smiled. "I'm trying to deal, so far it's been okay I guess, and thanks," she said as she turned back to the roses and slipped on her new gloves, bending down to help pick off the dead leaves.

"I sure do hope everyone can pull together. I haven't had much time to talk with all the students yet. I have talked briefly with Shimmer, and Heather. And now you. Though I am sure Diesel will be a great asset to our team. And we will learn to work together very well." His voice trailed off as he watched his own fingers work on the roses. He smiled as his finger got pricked by a thorn. He kinda enjoyed those small moments when he felt completely normal.
"Anyway, I do not know how much you have worked with roses. But what we have to watch out for is dead leaves and spent buds and roses. Once the rose has bloomed and begins to wither, we cut it off. As well as leaves and dead buds, this makes room for new ones ot grow." Carefully removing an old rose at its base.
