The stables were empty, but the smell of horse and hay was still prominent in the air. Aideen pulled her brown suede jacket and blew her now shorter hair out of her face as she walked down the isle of the empty stables. Upon her arrival she chopped off her long curly hair so it now laid a couple of inches past her shoulders.
Aideen had been here for awhile and had yet to talk to anyone. Not that she was complaining, for she never got on well with people in general. She did however wish they had horses here. That had always been her guilty pleasure. When she was back in Boston, Aideen used to ride up to the country side and work at this large stables. The owner bred Arabians and Thoroughbreds. Aideen missed Nightcap, her favorite horse there. He was a gray gelding that was a mix of Arabian and Thoroughbred. Aideen loved that wee horse. He always managed to make her smile.
She sighed, realizing that she most likely will never see him again. Now was time for her to begin the new chapter in her life, here at the Academy.
Holding out her hand palm flat, she made a small flame appear in the center. Aideen stared at the fire that warmed and tickled her palm but never burning her. Since she was younger she'd always been attracted to fire. It surprised the hell out of her when she found her powers. That explained why fire never hurt her.
Extinguishing the flame, she gave a small sigh and continued her steady walk through the stables.

"Neat trick" the girls voice said sarcastically from a few stalls down on the left. "You must trust yourself with all this hay lying around." She stepped out into view, and leaned back against the wooden framing of the stall, her hair was shock white and yet her features and voice were young.
She looked around at the inside of the stable and said "It'd be a shame if something happened here, I kind of like this place, it's peaceful." She looked right into the fire girls eyes, not flinching and with an underlying threat in her tone, she said "Wouldn't you agree."

Aideen looked up and raised her eyebrows at the younger girl though her face remained expressionless. She was used to these attitudes from the spoiled seemingly all knowing girls from her school. A shame she would have to encounter more of them here. Aideen wasn't fazed by her underlying threat, instead glanced up at her casually. "Control is an amazing thing, especially when one has enough of it to know their limitations," she said softly and climbed up a pile of hay.
Not paying attention to the girl, she let her hand go up in gentle flames and placed it on the pile of hay, marveling how the flame remained on her hand and didn't spread or burn the hay. "A great thing indeed," Aideen said in the same soft voice.

"Lucky you." The albino girl looked at her slightly awed by her control, her voice humble as she walked closer. "Does it hurt at all?" she asked.

Aideen turned her dark eyes to the pale girl and her face remained remained expressionless. "No," she said simply and extinguished the flame on her hand and brought her knees up to her chest. "Not at all."

"So then, what, it only looks like fire?" The girl took a step closer and stopped.
"I'm going to give this a try alright nena?" The girl folded her arms and said "Only because I want to make a better place for myself then some foster home or some alley, okay ?" She tapped her foot nervously "Ms. Frost said I should try so, okay here goes, and don't laugh or be a b'tch cause I swear to God missy" the girl was getting herself all worked up over trying to introduce herself.
It was obvious that she didn't trust anyone and had no friends, but it also seemed like it wasn't her fault entirely. "My name is, uh, my new name is Haven." She put her hands on her hips and fought back a scowel, she tried to look like she didn't care if the girl liked her or not but it was one of those moments where the words didn't matter as much as sentiment behind them. She hoped her life would be better, but she didn't know how to let it be, she needed a bit of help.

Watching the girl calmly from her spot on the top of the hay bales, she allowed a slow smirk to come across her face. Aideen picked a couple of pieces of hay from the bale and held it in front of her. With her other hand, she put out her index finger and a flame ignited from it. She held it to the pieces of hay in her other hand and the hay instantly burned up in flames in her hand. "It's real," she said with the smirk still on her face.
Aideen listened to the girl's... Haven did she say?.... 'introduction' quirking an eyebrow in amusement. She hopped down from the top of the hay bale and stood in front of the girl. She was a couple of inches taller and looked down at her. "Threatening someone isn't the best way to meet people," she said in a soft voice. Aideen moved back to the hay bales and sat down on a lower one. She leaned back against another bale and continued to look at the girl. "My name is Aideen. As a mutant I am called Ember," she said in a calm voice as her dark bottomless eyes studied the girl in front of her and remaining stone-faced.

"Oh, so what do you call that?" She swiveled her head around and frowned at Aideen. "Standin over me like I'm some little twerp. That seemed a bit like a threat, like you tryin to tell me my place! Well, I'm used to that attitude and I guess it'll be more of that here, right?"
She walked over to the girl and said "I don't like it but I do 'get it', and just so you know Ember" Niki sneered as she said her name "You don't scare me." She turned to walk away.

Aideen gave a short amused laugh at how worked up the girl got over something that didn't even come to mind. "Has anyone ever told you that you read far too much into things?" she said with a raised eyebrow and a small smile. "The only one with any attitude is you," she said in a calm soft voice. Haven honestly did get far too worked up. After all, Aideen had threatened people before but in a much more obvious and blatant manner. She also learned how to keep a cool head. Meanwhile Haven was a bomb waiting to explode.
As the girl turned to walk away, Aideen spoke in her usual calm and breathy voice. "If you always read so much into every step a person makes, I'm afraid you will have bad luck with people. Learn to be on your guard with a cooler head," she said before she took a book out of her back pocket. She didn't come here to make any enemies. But if a hot headed paranoid girl was going to explode on her because she jumped down from a hay bale, then she certainly had better things to do than to have her every move be interpreted as a threat.

Haven had turned back to face Ember when she spoke"Huh? You mean you weren't?" Haven was looking at her with a shocked dazed expression on her face.
"Uh, I guess I'm just so used to that kind of thing" she looked down at the loose hay on the ground and said "sorry."

Aideen saw Haven stop from the corner of her eyes. She kept her eyes on the pages in the book and answered her calmly. "If I was to threaten you, it would be much more obvious. Assuming actions like that could get you in trouble," she said in her peaceful voice. "It is alright though, just be careful next time."
She thumbed the pages and looked up at Haven. Aideen didn't fancy people for the most part. They always brought too much hurt and they could never be trusted. But this school was a new place. Maybe things will be different here. Or maybe not. She will stay on guard till shes sure.

"Yeah, whatever- 'mira' what you reading anyway?" Haven said throwing some spanglish into her vernacular. She walked a step or two over to Ember, because she didn't have anything else to do and because for some reason she liked the girl. It must have been like with a child or a cat, if you ignore it it finds you interesting and comes to you, but Haven would have never acknowledged that fact.
She found herself taking a seat on the hay bail next to Ember and didn't think anything of it. It was probably apparent that Haven was an emotional wreck and just sitting with someone who wasn't actively hating her was a wonderful thing for her, she breathed a sigh and looked at the pages over Ember's shoulder.

Aideen showed her the cover of the book King Arthur and the Knights at the Round Table. It was one of her favorite books. She would do anything to live back then or find a knight of her very own. But she learned to let go of such frivolous thoughts. Aideen was smart enough to know that the dream was a lost cause.
"I love this book," she said softly smiling at the cover. James had given her the book for her birthday. She planned on treasuring it forever.

"King Arthur?" Haven looked at Ember and scrinched up her face "Isn't that a boy's book? What do you like about it?" she asked.

Aideen shrugged slightly at her question. She wasn't quite sure how to answer it. She had always loved that time period, everything from the Noble wars to the Knights fighting for the hand of the girl they love. Aideen would give anything to live in that time period.
So she gave the simplest answer she could think of. "I like the time when all that took place."
