Jumper was really confused and needed to get things off his mind. He couldn't understand girls. They were so confusing and fickle. He tried being nice and understanding to them and it only got him hurt. He tried being confident and smart towards them and it made them hate him. He just didn't get it. That on top of what happened earlier today was just eating away at his mind. So Jumper went to one place he knew he could just relax and do something that would get his mind off of everything.
Picking up the basket ball he started to dribble it slowly. Getting a feel for the ball and into a rythm. He started dribbling and lightly jogging back and forth across the court. Then as he started getting comfortable, he would do the occasional spin, or bounce behind his back and his legs. His limbs were getting stretched and warmed up. Stopping at the foul line he jumped a little and took the shot for the net. He hadn't taken a shot in a couple days so it wasn't a surprise when the ball bounced off the rim. Jogging over and gripping up the ball, he ran to the other net and stopped taking another shot, it bounced against the back board and then the rim and finally fell through the net.

After spending the last day tucked away in her room not talking to the world, stewing over the way Aideen had treated her at the first practice since the attack, Katana finally left to get some air and also because she was sick of the cold food that had been brought up to her. Seeing that the kitchen was in shambles, she had given up on her plan to grab a quick bite and instead headed out to the basketball courts to take out some aggression on the boards. When she got there she saw Jumper, the cocky little runer from her team, shooting baskets. "Great," she thought, "just what I need." Yet, at the same time she really did need to be around another person. Despite the tough exterior she tried to present she was lonely, and when Sara had not come back to the room they shared the other night she had felt betrayed and abandoned by the little bitch. So she ran up to the court and grabbed the ball, shouting to Jumper with a voice filled with bravado, "Up for a game. I'll take you in no time."

Jumper stopped as he saw Katana approach and grab the ball. He couldn't help but think, Oh great another girl to deal with. Though it wasn't as bad, at least she was on his Team. He hadn't seen her since the practice yesterday, and he knew she was run very hard by Ember. katana looked like she was alright and she seemed to have energy to play so he shrugged to himself. It would be good to play a game, and that would help keep his mind off other things. "You want to play me? You think you can take me in Basketball?" He raised his brow and smiled his cocky smile.
"Ok, if yoru up to it. First one to 21 wins, and its you make it, you take it, and check the ball at half court? Good for you?" He held his smile as he watched her. He played basketball a lot, and was on the teams in all the schools he went to. But he had to admit, Katana was well built and he knew she was a competitor from the practice. Not one to give up.

Katana took the ball to half court, dribbled it twice, and then charged towards her adversary as if she was going to try to run right through him to the basket, but at the last minute she pulled back and tried a jump shot, confident in her ability to make it. However, she missed, shouting an expletive in her fury with herself.

Jumper shuffled back as she charged forward trying to keep quick pace with her. As she stopped he stopped and caught his footing. He watched her leap and take the shot. The aggressive move had caught him off guard so he didn't leap to try and block it. But as the ball missed the target, he spun and moved quickly to grab it. He dribbled it quickly and took it back out to half court and grinned watching her. Like in any sport if you get angry, you will make mistakes. And from her shouting at missing the shot. He knew he could use that anger against her. "hey, you gotta do much better then that if you wanna take me. Or did you mean you wanted to take me out on a date?" He grinned and winked trying to work Katana up some more. He stayed at the half court until she was ready, dribbling carefully and watching her intently. He would by no means take her lightly.

Trying to ignore Jumper's jibe, Katana walked up to him and kept her eyes intently on the ball and his hands, ready to leap out and grab the ball the instant it left his hands for the next dribble.

Jumper was very careful as he dribbled the ball watching her eyes to see where she was looking. He slowly shifted his feet a bit and thought of his move. "Awwww, did I take the words out of your mouth? Or am I just to much for you to handle on a date?" He taunted her more and just as he finished his words he took a half step to the right and feinted a dribble that way, then with practiced skill his body rolled quickly and fluidly to the left, the ball never missing a bouce or step. As he tried to roll around her, or at the least get to her side with his back towards her to move around Katana quickly.

As Jumper shot his mouth off about a date, Katana's blood started to boil, but she bit her tongue instead of coming back with a cutting remark, and watched the ball. As he tried to roll it around her, she saw her chance. Moving quickly she reached in to grab the ball. Although she was unable to seize it, she did succeed in knocking it out of Jumper's hands so that it went rolling along the court. Not wasting any time, Katana sprinted after it, hoping to reach it before her fleet classmate.

Jumper spun around as the ball was knocked away from his hand. Seeing Katana sprint after it he was about to run after it, instead he moved slowly after her letting her get the ball in a hurry, and watched for the rigth time to make a move for the ball. All the time the cocky confident smile was on his lips. The smile was all part of his game. trying to make it seem like no matter what she did, or how fast, strong or aggressive she was, he wasn't worried. Though it truely was just a face eh put on. She was a fighter and knew it would be rough. So he tried to rely on his wit. Thats what got him through ll the years of bouncing from school to school. "Wow, you got a hand on the ball. Maybe your not just a girl." He said sarcastically. "Though you know you dont have to try so hard to impress me. I would have let you go on a date with me anyway." He winked and smirked as he continued to watch her intently. Jumper always had the talent of talking to much and pissing people off, if he kept talking to Katana, he was sure he would get to her. Just like he did to all the girls it seemed.

You son of a bitch, Katana thought, her mind filling with disgust for Jumper. Just a girl. How he could dismiss her like that and not just her but women in general was just infuriating. It was the same kind of garbage attitude that had predominated in so many of the foster homes in which she had lived and with so many of the agency workers. Boys had some potential, but girls were just a burden. Katana had worked hard to prove she was worth every bit as much as any boy and as any other person. But wait...he was probably trying to psych her out. He needed her upset so she would lose concentration. As that thought crossed her mind a slight smile lit up her lips. She would pretend to be flustered and then catch him unaware!
Dribbling fast she came up the side of the court focusing her eyes towards the paint to indicate that she was going to move into it, then at the last moment she stepped back, aimed the ball, and took a shot, sending it arcing towards the basket and onto the rim where the ball spiraled around twice before falling in.
Now that she had made a basket she turned to Jumper, slightly more confident, and said brassly, "If you win this game I'll let you have the privilege of a date...otherwise, you're out of luck, boy."

He followed her closely as she moved along the side, his light step shifting easily. Again she stopped suddenly and took another shot. As the ball arched up through the air and then spun around the rim, Jumper was already walking to the half court line and waiting. He looked bored as he waited for Katana to come over and check the ball. The cocky smile on his lips as if to say he really wasn't trying to stop that shot. As he waited he stretched a bit. "Ohhhh is that how you plan to win? By threatening me with a date? Now I have to decide whats more important, me winning, or getting out of a date. hmmmmm......" He chuckled and grinned. Waiting for her to toss him the ball so he could get started. He still had another trick up his sleeve. Something he was sure would get katana worked p, though it might get him hurt. It would be a risk he might have to take.
"You going to give me to ball. Or just look at me drooling?" Smirking again and getting ready to be hit.

"Exactly," she jibed back, trying to keep things light. "I know there is no way you could possibly handle me, so you'll bow out like the coward you are." Then she sent the ball hurtling toward him, only thinking to yell "check" at the last minute.

Jumper laughed out loud as she said that. And he was ready for the throw, he caught the ball, hearing the word check. He dribbled the ball a couple times and then he shot up almost to leap up and take a long shot, then at the last second he slipped down and ran to the outside dribbling the ball skillfully keeping the ball on the opposite side of Katana until he came around fast and leaped again performing a lay up. The ball bouncing off the back board and into the net. "Yea your right, I like girls with a bit of backbone, not all simple and purring like kittens. You know Ember was right about you......... ahhh nevermind" He turned and got the ball and walked back to the foul line to check the ball to Katana, letting that last comment float in the air.

With the mention of Ember, Katana's pent up anger broke like water pouring over a dam. "Just what did she say about me?" she demanded harshly. However, even as she said it a voice in the back of her head was saying, LEAVE IT ALONE GIRL! Leave it alone. You need to calm down and settle in here. You need to trust these people. You have nowhere else to go if you screw up this time. But she said it anyway. The anger Leah held towards Ember was too strong to be held back by any rational thought process.

Jumper held his cocky smile, he knew he hit the spot with that. He tossed her the ball lightly and called out. "Check". He took a couple steps back and waited for the move. He was walking a thin line here and knew he was close to getting beaten down. as she demanded to hear what Ember said, he thought to himself how to answer this. Ember had never said anythign to him. Ember hadn't even talked to him since the practice. But there was no way Katana could know that. "Don't worry about it, Its nothing." He shrugged and grinned watching her intently still. The more he dangled it in front of her, the more he hoped she would dwell on it.
