Leah almost snapped back, "I'll worry about what I damn well please, now answer my question" but she thought better of it and did NOT say it. Instead, she took a few deep breaths and tried to regain her composure. He was trying to upset her. Katana could tell by the evil gleam in his eye. She was not going to let him win. She could not look weak. She must not. So she focused her eyes on the ball and glowered at it, as if it might come alive at any second and become Ember.

He had already tossed he the ball and he watched her take the breaths asfter she demended him to answer the question. He took on a surprised look as if her demanding an answer had worried him. He shrugged again and looked at her as if trying to recall. "Ok, ok.... It was something about not being able to keep up. And not capable of handling the practice like the others." He arched his brow and looked to the ball, still ready to move and react. "Well you gonna do something with that ball or just stare at it?"

"Stare at it," she said cheekily. "And you tell Miss High and Mighty that I could run laps around her if I wanted...she just isn't very motivating, that's all." If she had thought more carefully about her words she would have realized this was exactly the wrong thing to say in the situation. But that was Katana, she didn't think, she just did and then tried to pick up the pieces.

Jumper listened to her and inside he laughed. The trouble he could cause between them was endless. He had already tossed he the ball and called check. And she was just holding it and staring at the ball. His words had definitly hit home. She was off her game for the moment. Or so he thought. With a quick reach and slap, he batted the ball from her hands and took off with it to the net. He moved quick and slipped under the net and tossed the ball up and into the net. A bit of him was beginning to feel a bit quilty at digging so deep at Katana. But if she couldn't control her emotions, or figure out his game then that was on her. Scooping the ball up again and jogging back to the line and tossing it to her again. "check" He said calmly, as if this game was no challenge to him.

"Fine, play dirty," she yelled as she took off with the ball as fast as she could run, dribbling madly, only to to double dribble and have to throw the ball back to Jumper in disgust. Inside she was boiling at this point. Sure, this boy wanted to win a game but this was really just going too far. She wanted to tell him off. She wanted to scream at him. She wanted to say so many things, but in an uncharacteristic display of self control she kept her venomous thoughts to herself as she willed herself to concentrate on the game. He was up 3 baskets to 1 and she needed to come from behind pronto.

Jumper caught the ball and looked at her. His smile turning into a frown. He walked to the line and stared at Katana. "Hey, you asked what she said! I was going to drop it until you demanded to hear it so dont get mad at me if she thinks you cant cut it!" Jumper spat back at Katana, jus trying to egg her on more. This time he took off towards her carefully and kept his back and side to her. Keeping the ball on the opposite side as Katana. he was hoping he had her so riled up that she would try and shove him away from her. And if she did he would move quickly away from her letting her over balance herself. If not he would just ride her up to the net this way and make a move there.

Katana saw what Jumper was trying to do and kept her eyes rivited to the opening between his legs, through which she could see him dribbling the ball. At precisely the right moment she dropped to the ground, reached under him and batted the ball away, then she got up and ran for it with all her might, reaching it just in time to turn around and make a lay away shot. Somehow, to her tremendous suprise and delight, it went in! Now I am finally getting somewhere, she thought.

Jumper watched her and frowned as she ran after the ball, but he did,t let her see that. Pulling his smile ot his lips and movignot the line waiting for the ball. He joked. "Wow, you can get lucky huh? Thats great. If it weren't for luck I wouldn't have any competition here." He held out his hands and waited for the ball. Jumper still held the bored look on his face.

"And if you didn't play dirty with your attempts to irritate me you would be losing," Katana said matter of factly, as she checked the ball to him. "So why don't you start acting like a man instead of a scared little boy and speak to me properly or shut up."

He chuckled and caught the ball. he listened to her act all tough towards him. "Attempts? All I did was tell you what you asked for. I do not know what you mean." he stepped to the right and his right hand went out wide to dribble the ball around you, then again with a practiced skill he snapped his right hand back and launched the ball between katana's legs and ran catching the ball with his left hand. A couple more quick strides and ounces and he jumped up sinking the ball into the net. He turned and looked ot Katana and tilted his head. "Did I just score again? I think I did. I mean it happened so quick, that is another point right?" He laughed and walked back to the line with the ball. This is how Jumper always played sports, it was second nature to talk trash to the opponent. And never show concern. Bouncing the ball to Katana, he called out "Check"

Tiring quickly of Jumper's attitude, Katana growled at him, "Cut the bullshit and just play, but if you insist on playing cute games then I warn you to be wary of my temper." That said she turned around and moved in towards the basket, letting off a shot which teetered on the rim precariously before finally falling into the basket.

He laughed again and shook his head as he moved to the line. "I am playing Katana, thi sis fun. What's the matter, you can't handle a little talk? Your going to get upset and flip out on me over some trash talk?" He tilted his head and held out his hands again for the ball and waited for the check.

Breaking down, Katana, answered him with a simple plea for a respite instead of some angry or cocky retort. "Please, just lay off the trash talk. I enjoy playing the game with you but the teasing is a bit much right now." If he kept it up she would stop playing. She'd treated others like crap and engaged in plenty of trash talking herself because it was expected in the world in which she had lived...it was how you survived. But the school wasn't that world and it really was not necessary here. She was tired. She didn't want to have to fight anymore. She didn't want to have to pretend to be emotionless and constantly strong. She just wanted to belong somewhere and to be able to be herself. She'd tried trash talking and playing strong at practice the other day and it had been a disaster. Leah had been herself and let down her guard with Sara and Guardian and they had treated her as a friend, Guardian perhaps as something more, and she had liked it greatly. If Jumper could just treat her as a friend instead of talking down to her, that would be enough. She didn't want to have to fight him or anybody else. Not anymore. She was just too tired.

Jumper looked to her, confusion on his face. He didn't understand what had just happened. She was just playing all tough and hard. Even scoring against him. Throwing trash words back and forth. Then all of a sudden she is asking him to stop. It was just a game, and just some stupid jibes at each other. Still holding his hands out for the ball, he merely shrugged and waited for the ball. he just didn't get girls and the sudden mood changes. So for now he just stayed quiet and kept his cocky smile on his lips.

Relieved that he had not retorted, Katana checked Jumper the ball.
