For the first time in awhile, Ian wanted to kick himself. God damnit! I know Kitty wouldn't have screwed up, she's done this before. I shoulda covered what I meant when I said to lay low. I shoulda known better to explain that laying low means not talkin', lookin,' or interacting directly with the demons in any way. freak, he thought before he reached down carefully keeping his skin covered and searched for Haven's hand a bit before he found it and gripped it through her forcefield. Careful to keep his face covered since he still towered over some of the demons, he leaned down to speak quietly to Haven. "One guess on who screwed up. Kitty Teach will cover her, this is our only chance to try and do something about those two," Ian said looking up at the two teachers on the podium.
He gripped her hand carefully and watched as half the demons went after humans and the soldiers up by Belasco were distracted by the found out pair. Ian looked at Haven with a grim look that she would only see if she looked at an angle. "Ok babe, this is it. Got a plan or do we wing it? We're in this together," he whispered as he started moving toward the podium.

As the already topsy turvy world turned to bedlam around them Sara was taken completely aback. It should have worked. It really should have worked. She had done everything that the rabbis had taught her to do regarding demons. She had been a good student of demonology in Talmud, finding it far more interesting than the dry discussions of how the number of stitches in a pair of teffilin or the rules of kli shani or other complex minutiae, so she knew that what she had done had been to the letter what halacha prescribed. Yet, it hadn't worked and now she and her poor teacher were going to die because Hashem had failed. Her G-d had failed. She felt sick less from the fear of demons, death no longer frightened her, but from the shocking realization that her faith might possibly be wrong.
She might fight with her faith. She might feel neglected and lost by its reaction to her mutation and its rejection of her. But she had not lost her belief in G-d as much as she had been angry at Him and wanted to spite Him sometimes. Now her faith was shattered and not just once, but for a second time. The first having been when the counting, clearly proscribed by Talmud, had failed to work to decimate the demons they encountered shortly after arriving in Limbo. She had thought then that perhaps G-d was fine but that she herself was too defective to be worthy of the nais (miracle). But speaking Aramaic was no miracle. She knew the language. She knew how to speak it right. It should have protected her. Instead, it gave away to the demon that they were human. Perhaps the demon read Talmud too and knew what a foolish human would be likely to do? Moreover, the demons shouting the alarm were not shouting in Aramaic as Talmud taught her they would. They were shouting in English.
So she was a fool. A fool to trust in a G-d she had never seen but only heard about from stories in books, passed on as infallible by her community's leaders. A fool to think that she knew something that the rest of the wolrd did not...for priding herself above the goyim. And now she would die a fool's death and take Kitty with her and quite possibly Haven and Diesel too. She wanted to cry but for the first time in her life tears just would not come.
Instead, she suffocated, as Kitty phased them into a wall, and only took them back out again after the oxygen was completely depleted. She dared not say anything for fear of attracting more demons so she refrained from telling her teacher she was sorry, that she was an idiot, and to leave her as she could run for it and distract at least a few of the demons so Kitty could escape. Instead, she looked down at the ground, at the mud in despair and tried to think of something to do. If only she had taken that sword.
And then she saw it. Lying on the ground, having been ripped out in the commotion was a long wooden tent peg with a sharp, fearsome point. She picked up the peg in her right hand and held it forward in front of her in the hopes that she might at least have a chance of fending off a demon or two that happened to get past Kitty's sword. Her first goal to protect her teacher. She had caused this mess, so she deserved to be the one to die if things got out of control.
Without saying anything she looked up at Kitty with a look in her eyes that mixed contrition not just with fear, but for the first time since they had arrived in Limbo understanding. Sara finally understood that while halacha might be a beautiful faith system it did not govern the universe and would be of no use in Limbo.

For a brief second Shadowkat wondered how her other students were faring. Probably better than this, I had trusted they'd know better, she thought as she continued to pull Elixir along. Looking at the girl she saw that the first time she phased through the wall she wasn't ready, and must not have heard her when she told her to hold her breath. Girl has got to listen, this is serious, and we need to get through this together, intelligently, she thought as she saw her pick up a wooden peg off the ground. I wish she wouldn't try that, her main goal is for her to survive. I know she wants to help fight, but what she needs to do is to try to not get hurt.
She indulged the girl in letting her hold it, but she would try her damnedest to make sure she didn't try to use it. For now the team leader wanted to use evasive maneuvers by phasing through the wall, but Elixir had to listen so she wouldn't suffocate. She looked to the girl directly in the eye for a split second as she yelled an order, "When we go into the wall, hold your breath until we get out! Be prepared girl!" There was a certain glint to her charge's eyes, but it was only seen for the second that she had looked there.
Returning quickly to the situation at hand, she saw a couple small demons with scaled skin running toward them, and she moved fluidly, moving Elixir behind her as she swiped out her boot and knocked one into the other and sent them flying at some other demons who had been coming out them. Seeing a small opening, she took it and phased Elixir and herself, falling into the wall, letting some demons lunging at them hit the wall headfirst. She hoped the girl followed her directions as she ran a few more feet ahead next to the surface of the wall, and stepped out of it, pulling Elixir along with her. One medium sized demon with what looked like hawk eyes looked at them, recovering from hitting his big head and ran toward them, blubbering loudly. Again she shielded her charge as she then let her hand with the sword come from beneath the cover of her cloak and come straight out, letting the dazed demon run right into it. Using her foot to pull the sword out, she let him drop and turned her head towards Elixir. "You okay?" she asked, looking for an opening where they could phase again.

Feeling Ian wrap his hand around her forcefield and try to make contact with her own hand, Niki realized all at once how much a part of the group she was and also how separate too. He wasn't able to touch her but he tried, it was she and her own natural defenses that prevented him from touching her. In the same way that she prevented everybody from getting close to her on a personal level, everyone that is except for Ember.
She thought deeply and a long moment passed before she responded to him, but in that time Haven came to a few conclusions. 'I am one of them. These stupid kids from the school, dumb mutants sure, but they're just kids too. I guess I have been a hard ass for too long, kept everybody out. What's my problem? How come I hate so easily and why am I so good at it?' She looked at Ian and caught a look on his face that showed a hopelessness or worse. 'Is he serious? Does he really consider us a team? He is kinda cute, but - naaah, I'm damaged goods. Who'd really want to be with me, he's just stuck with me is all. He did call me babe though, maybe ...'
She snapped herself out of her thoughts and looked quickly from Diesel's face up to the raised stage where Belasco and his demon guard stood looking at the commotion. "Yeah, I got a plan." she whispered and tugged her companion by his hand. Pulling him through the crowd as the distraction that Kitty and Sara were causing allowed them to move freely around the edge of the courtyard and the demons gathered there. Finding themselves behind the stage Niki looked at Ian and winked.
"Now" Haven peeked up and took a quick look at the setup on the stage area and ducked back down. She opted for the full on frontal attack strategy that Sabertooth would often promote when she'd spent the time with the Brotherhood training. She was only half winging it when she came up with her strategy. "I go after Belasco and you go snap those chains. I need you to throw me at him HARD and I'll clobber him, it'll break his concentration. Once his magic is gone you can bust them out of the chains. Nobody'll see us coming, you gotta stay low cause after I bust him up the rest of his four goons there will want to kick my ass, but don't worry, I'm trouble in a bubble. Untouchable." she whispered her plan to him and got ready for the action.

Ian looked at her incredulously. "You gotta be joking babe. Forcefield or not they can still snap your neck if they tried to. And unlike me you can't recover from that. Na screw that babe, I'll help you hold them off. I told you, we're in this together. No way am I taking a chance for you to get hurt," he said firmly with a stubborn look on his face. Screw what they said about her. She ain't all bad and she saved Spitfire. Anyone who trades in a life living free to one where shes under constant watch just to save a friend can't be really evil. Hell, shes right up there with Spitfire as one of the most selfless people I've ever met, he thought as he reached out and hugged her through her forcefield.
"I won't be far behind. Do your thing Haven babe, but don't get hurt. You gotta come back to Spitfire and to me, remember that. We both need all the friends we can get, and it'll crush Spitfire if anything happens to you. She doesn't need that again, and I don't ever want to feel that. Got it?" Ian said hugging her tight for a moment longer before letting her go and giving her a confident smile. "Let's kick some demon ass babe," he said with a confident voice and a smile. He picked her up, on hand supporting her waist, the other on her knee. "Get ready babe," he said taking aim at Belasco who was looking away from them in the other direction.
"On three. One... two.... THREE!" Ian threw Haven with all his strength at Belasco and came up right afterwards. She's a tough chick, like Spitfire. She'll survive. We all will, he thought as he leaped on the stage and headed for Wolverine and Nightcrawler.

"G-d doesn't really exist. My childish faith may just have killed us all, and you ask if I'm ok?", Sara said quietly in response to her teacher's question. "You worry about you. If somebody has to die let it be me...maybe I can go distract them while you get away...somewhere."
No sooner had she finished speaking, then Sara heard a giant commotion, loud enough that it reverberated through the walls. There was a huge stampede of feet and a cacophony of shouts and the couple of demons running towards Sara and Shadowkat stopped suddenly as if unsure whether they should continue to pursue their quarry or run off to wherever it was that all of their comrades were going.

At this point, Shadowkat was not in the mood for carrying on, even though she knew Elixir was having trouble with her faith. Survival mattered more at the moment. "It was a simple yes or no question, and enough, Elixir. Both of us are going to make it, as are the other two. No being sacrificial, so stop i-" she cut herself off as she heard the same commotion her charge did, and looked to try to see what had happened. However she didn't focus on it for long, and saw that the demons that were coming at them stopped in confusion, and the phaser saw an opening.
"Let's go, NOW," she said to Elixir, gripping her arm tighter and led her away off the side against the wall in a run. There were still a few demons who were focused on them, and she kicked them away, or at least far enough away for them to move through. A group of demons she could see were running off toward the stage, and it wasn't until she gave it a bit of a closer look did she see that Diesel and Haven had snuck up from behind. "Come on, Elixir, we need to get to them all," she said, still pulling her along.

'Who's that?' Logan's sense of smell, keener than a bloodhound's let him know that there were other humans around. He had been immobilized by Belasco's chains of power and they were pinning him to the pillar of rock like a fly to flypaper. 'Awww, no it's the kids. How'd they get here. Damn now I gotta watch him kill Kurt and them too.' He would surely die last as his power would keep him alive the longest.
Wolverine knew Belasco's game, he'd been here before and played the same game over and again. His was a game of pain and cruelty, and now these kids were in it up to their eyeballs. *-sniffff-* 'Oh, hell and Kitty too?' he thought as he saw the two young mutants put their plan into action. As the girl who he didn't recognize want sailing through the air the boy named Diesel came running up to him. 'Nice fastball-special' he wanted to say but his jaw was frozen. He was encased in a glow of evil magic power. Belasco was it's source.

It was a great throw- perfect in fact, and Haven grinned as she sailed through the air. She sliced through the air, focusing in her mind as she stuck her fingers out straight she actually tried to make her forcefield like a huge wedge and with any luck she would cleave the Demon Lord's head clean off. 'That must be how to kill a demon' she was thinking. Then, as if someone had already explained how things would happen he turned, snatching her right out of mid air and wrapping her in his magical chains. How could they have been so foolish? To think they could sneak up on the Devil himself?!?!! -In Hell of all places!?!.... 'But who was this 'SHE' that he was speaking about?' Belasco levitated out over the crowd of demons in an attempt to regain some order, the two young mutants and their fearless teacher had their hands full now!

Kurt raised his head wearily and saw the scene unfolding, he could do nothing to help. These chains held them fast and prevented them from moving or acting, but he could think. 'Ack! Close von zho. Zhese children are doing zheir best, too bad it vill not be enough. How did zhey get here? God bless zhem please' he prayed, he knew there was no chance his prayer would be answered, or even heard. They were beyond help, and nearly beyond hope. Nothing short of a demon would be able to slip those chains that held them. 'Why would he be speaking of Magik?' Nightcrawler wondered, for there was no other 'she' he could think of that would or had so enchanted or beguiled Belasco. 'Magik is dead....Isn't she?' he thought.

"NOOOO!" Ian yelled when Haven was grabbed by Belasco. He ran past the two chained teachers in a rage with his fist clenched and for the first time ever, glowing a slight bit. Ian charged at the guard that stood next to Haven with wild eyes. I can't let her get hurt. I'm done with all the losses we've all had. I gotta protect her. She's my friend and she saved Spitfire. She deserved to have someone try for her too. I WILL get her out, he thought as he punched the guard closest to him with so much strength that the guard flew out into the crowd of demons right on top of some of the others.
Ian was in rage like state at the site of Haven being handled in such a way. No one did that to his friends. He still wasn't happy with himself that he hadn't stopped Sabretooth from getting to Ember and he wasn't going to let this clown get to Haven. He'll do everything he can to get her out. The other guard got the same force of his punch, fly in Belasco's direction. His knuckles cracked from the impact of the big heavy guards body as he punched them with all his strength.
Ian ran to Haven's chains and pulled them in vain. "I'll get you outta here babe, just hold on," he said with gritted teeth and pulled at the chains. He glared at Belasco and pulled at the chains. He didn't care if he was captured but he wanted the others free. Ian pulled in vain with all his might as he glared at Belasco. That Red ass hides behind his power like a coward. His brittle ass body would be just that without his hocus pocus. Coward, he thought ass he pulled at the chains. Haven wasn't frozen like the teachers so there was still a chance. "C'mon girly help me out," he muttered.

Running now to keep up with Shadowkat, Sara rounded a corner with her teacher just in time to see Belasco wrap Haven up in chains and Diesel go barrelling onto the stage in a fury to save the white haired girl. Amazingly enough she did not feel frightened at this point. She was beyond fear. They were going to die. This was certain. It was her fault, but remorse would not change that either. About all they could do was try to die well. Even with her faith shattered the first thought that came to mind was as always the Talmud. She thought it was Rabbi Eliezer, but it very well could have been another rabbi, in fact it probably was as Sara had a habit of attributing to Eliezer the quotes of all number of lesser sages when she could not remember who had said what, had said that the date of birth is unimportant to a Jew as at that point nobody knows what the person will be, good or evil, strong or weak, a sage or a fool, but the date of death a Jew remembers for a person can be judged by how they lived and how they died. Sara had not lived terribly well, but she was going to die well, she resolved. So she followed her teacher closely and tried to think of something to do when they got to the stage. Obviously if they wanted to get out of here at all they would need to get through those chains. Diesel's brute strength, infinitely more than her own, had failed to get through them. But perhaps something else might. The chains were in this dimenson, a dimension of demons and dead things. Sara's tears pulled people out of death and back to life. What if, she thought, she cried on the chains, might they break or what if she cried on the people...were they not kind of dead in this world, and might her tears pull them back to the other world from which they came. Heck, it was worth trying. Sara resolved to get close enough to the chained figures to try. But first she would ask Shadowkat. No more unauthorized actions...those had caused enough trouble.
As they already had no cover there was not a huge risk in asking her teacher, so Sara asked, "Ms. Pryde, I wonder if maybe I cry on them it might have some effect. If I can raise people from the dead, I'm raising them from somewhere outside our world. Maybe the transfer power works both ways and if I cry on somebody here it might move them out of Limbo. It might be worth a try...what do you think?"

Shadowkat still kept an eye on what the other two were doing as she kept moving along with Elixir, shoving her way around when she could, and hacking with her sword when she had to. When she saw Belasco take Haven her eyes widened, and worry flooded through her even as Diesel tried to get her out, though she didn't stray from her task at hand. Anxiety only escalated when Belasco came out over the crowd to try to calm them down, and she moved Elixir in front of her as she ushered her forward to go towards the stage, the opposite way the ruler of Limbo was now going. "Move move move," she muttered to the girl, trying to lead her through a somewhat clear path now that the demons were beginning to respond to their ruler.
She listened to Elixir while she kept them moving forward in what felt like inching, and pondered the idea for a quick second. "I don't think it'll get them home, we'd probably need something more than that, but it's certainly worth a try," she replied. At this rate, we should try anything. Now that Belasco knows there's more of us here, something has to be done, and as soon as possible, especially now that Haven got chained down too, she thought as she gave her charge a small smile in appreciation for another seemingly good idea. All the girl had to do was think before she did, and maybe ask an opinion before doing and she'd be good. Elixir wasn't useless like she probably thought she was, and though she couldn't see that, Shadowkat could.

Haven struggled hard against the chains for a moment as she felt the touch on her skin of the Demon Lord of Limbo.'He caught me! Out of thin air and right through my forcefield? HOW!?!' she was amazed and confused by the situation. All at once the protection she had relied on for the last several years was gone, just like in the stasis chamber at the mansion. 'This is different than there though' she thought and she refrained from struggling too much, she could move and maybe she shouldn't let it be known that she could.
She did manage to ask him who he was talking about, and he reacted as if slightly shocked by the question. 'Who could he be talking about?' she wondered and her mind raced thinking of the story of the girl who was once Kitty's friend, Colossus' sister. 'Why would she want this for her old friends? What was her story?' and then recalled 'She died though, didn't she? Could she have gone to hell when she did?'
Hearing Diesel's voice shook her mind of it's musings, and she watched wide eyed as he let his full strength come to bear on the elite guard of the Demon Lord. Ian was incredibly strong and his punch was a thing of beauty in it's destructive force. She worried for him though, and for herself, the chains were begining to constrict and she didn't want him trapped too. He might be their very last hope. Then something caught her eye.
A signal! In the sky! 'It's like the bat-signal sorta.... but, red?' she thought and she knew instantly where it had come from. Her time with the Brotherhood was spent in training and study of the X-Men, and in study of the depths of her own darkness as well, but she knew what Cyclops' optic blasts looked like- and that's what that was. 'Cyclops is here, in Limbo!' She was certain of that much.

As they creeped foward the howling of demons seemed to get worse, then silence, then get worse again as if it were all choreographed somehow without the need for stage directions by the giant demon on the stage who had Haven wrapped up in chains. While that demon was kept busy by Diesel, Sara hoped they would be able to rush forward and do something, but Shadowkat had kept them at a slow pace so Sara followed her teacher's lead and hurried forward.
She concentrated so much on what was happening in front of her and on keeping from running from the sheer adrenaline that she did not notice a small demon creep up behind them until it thrust its sword at her, trying to reach around Shadowkat
Had her cloak not been more than two sizes too big for her the demon probably would have judged her size correctly and severed her heart, through the side of her rib cage. As it is he wound up jabbing at her shoulder. The metal was searing hot so that the pain from the burning made it feel like it had pierced her flesh even though it had not.
Terrified as the demon tried to stab her again, Sara tried to fend it off with the stake but wound up dropping it. "Help me" she cried as the demon's ministrations started to draw the attention of his compatriots who also began to close in on them.
