"Pfft, who- him?" Jax's eyes dropped on the first black guy he'd seen at this school so far who was doing perhaps the worst possible job at concealing his amazement at Ana and then over at Rexy who looked very un-Rexy like putting on the whole shy flirt act. He remembered her as the girl who chucked him into the pool and yet apologized to him later when Mohawk thought it was all cool to paralyze him. Maybe she digs the whole dreads thing. a small scowl appeared on his face without his realisation and he turned to look at Joce. "She's only putting on the whole act 'cause he's doing the worst job possible at hiding his whole puppy in love look. She'd end up ripping him to shreds come one moodswing." he said cooly, although he couldn't help but feel a little annoyed. He had to say it took a slight stab at his ego when she gave him the whole lecture on only liking classy guys and then ended up giving this guy the whole sneaky glances and flirty smile attitude, when Jax definitely looked like he had more class than Dreads. "Don't worry Jocey-pie, that one there's hardly competition. How-eever, here's a little thing just to prove to ya that I do have game Jocey-pie. Watch." He winked at Joce, with a smug smirk on his lips. He'd caught onto the fact that she was winding him up, but refused to really comment on it because rather surprisingly, he was getting wound up. " Hey Ana!" Jax called out, loud enough to make sure she heard him, with a goofy grin on his face. "Ask Heather to check her phone, will ya?" There were too many devices in this room for Jax to be able to specifically pick out an unfamiliar device and try to send something to that. But 'cause he was vaguely familiar with Heather's phone in his head, it made life a lot easier for him. The message he sent simply read- 'Damn Rexy, didn't know you dug Dreads. What happened to your thing for classy guys? Here I thought I was just gettin' to know ya man, but you're just fullllll of surprises, aren't ya?' It was a short and simple message, but he knew it would be enough to wind her up.

It was unfair the affect that stupid little grin of his had on Ricki, and his failed attempt at doing a puppy-dog face only added to his charm. She sighed, rolling her eyes with a small smile playing on her lips and a slight giggle. "Cut class?! My my, that won't come cheap that. Nope. You're going to have to bribe me with a super-awesome song, Mr Croft. Think you can afford that for bribery?" Her smile automatically widened to it's natural form, however the concern still didn't leave her eyes. It was strange: Ricki ought to have felt better about things going a little amiss between Gavin and Heather, right? It probably meant that her chances had been up'd, however, be that as it may, she only felt saddened at the news of things going a little haywire between Gavin and Heather. Turns out, she didn't care about her chances with Gavin as much as she did about her friend being happy.
"Although speaking of him, I know I've taken the oath of friendship where I always have your back and i'll stretch-out to catch you if your wings ever falter and all that-" she mused in a low voice with a side along glance at Riker "but if he is gonna come to shred you to meat, I'm sorry mate, I'm hiding under my bed. I really don't fancy being shredded just yet. I'm too young to die!" Ricki said, with mock horror in her voice, although her words were following my calm giggles and an all time feel-better smile. She was simply trying to lighten Gavin's mood a little bit. Although, now that she thought about it... Riker probably wasn't going to be Happy about Heather being so unhappy. She didn't take Riker to be an unreasonable guy on an average day, in all honesty, she actually got on all right with the New Mutant, but the thing was, when it came to his pack, Ricki knew Riker was really protective. She just hoped he heard Gavin out.
"So anyway, are you ready to spill your deepest darkest secrets, Gavin Croft?" she asked, trying to put on a tv-show anchor voice. "'Cause I will be ruthless!" she claimed, although the effect was almost immidiately ruined by her giggles.

Ana rolled her eyes and despite herself looked at Heather with an expectant and practically bored look while holding out her hand so her friend can show her the phone. She knew, just knew that she couldn't be in the same room with him without him bothering her somehow. They could barely be in the same area without insulting each other let alone the close vicinity. Her ice blue eyes narrowed when she read the text message and she took a deep breath to keep from turning around and giving him a piece of her mind. <I must keep my temper in check, I can deal with an asshole bully just fine,> Ana told herself before turning around and looking at Jax sitting on the desk with a sugary sweet smile on her face.
"It seem I be too malnourished from being ah, anorexic to know the difference anymore," she said in that sugary sweet tone that was laced with a good toxic dose of the venom. She would never show the hurt that those words caused her, but she'd be damned if she didn't throw them back in the face of that cocky arrogant ass. "It seem that lack of nutrients in my brain make me think to look at those who appreciate class when they see it." With that, she turned back to the front of the room, but not before hearing a loud THUMP behind her as she made Jax fall off the table rather hard.
"Excuse me," Ana said to the boy with the dreads, giving him a sweet smile. "I not believe we met, my name is Ana. I wonder if you have pen I may borrow? I see to forget mine." She was feeling quite satisfied with herself at that moment. Even if he was too stupid to get anything she said, at least she knew he'd have a nice bruise on his behind as a result. <God I hate stupid men.

While it wasn't the most enthusiastic 'yes' in the world, Ivy hadn't said 'no' or burst out laughing so Leah was going to count it as a win. Now be cool and just shut up, she thought to herself as she gave the other girl a small smile, you can only screw it up from here. She still couldn't quite believe that Ricki and Ivy were giving her a chance, and that she might actually be making friends on her new team. That and she had a little bit of a crush going too; not that she'd ever let Ivy know that in a million years. Finally, she also couldn't help but notice that Haven was sitting pretty close. Oh, f*ck, I didn't even say hi to her. She must think I'm the rudest person in the world.
As usual Alex's timing was impeccably bad. Just as Ricki swooped in to pull Ivy off to meet some other girl and as Leah was about to go make nice with Haven, the outcast NuMutant entered and made a big scene. Couldn't we talk about this privately, an exasperated Katana thought. What's with the f*cking kneeling, and why's he look like he's about to pass a kidney stone? The ridiculous look on his face and the cheesy soap opera style lines almost made her laugh. But she stopped herself. Laughing in his face would not be a good idea. After all he was apologizing and he seemed to mean it. And truth be told, she was very relieved as she had not really expected him to do either.
Or this is a big act for his new friends, she thought. It was possible. It could be a dramatic fake apology meant to get some big reaction from her so he and the other NuMutants could laugh it up at her expense. For a moment she just sat there expressionless and at a loss for words. Then she spoke with slight irritation in her voice. "Oh, for God's sake get off the floor. What's all this anchor sh*t?" Then she let her voice soften and said more quietly. "Of course, I forgive you. But next time I'm kicking your ass." She smiled to let him know that everything was OK. "Grab a chair. I think we need partners for this. You're mine."

Heather simply "smiled and nodded" to all the happened. She was in a slightly better mood since people weren't focusing on her. But thanks to Ana, she just had to mention that boys were looking their way. In all honesty, Heather believed they were really looking at Ana. Even though Heather dressed up well, she didn't really feel all that attractive at the moment.
Taking her phone back, Heather looked at Romon and the boy who was next to him. She smiled at the two (as much of a smile as she was able to put on) before turning her phone off. It was kind of rude to have it on during a class and Heather always made sure it was off unless something was up. "Hey... Romon right?" she asked softly. "I'm sorry about yesterday. It wasn't really great timing on my part when it came to meeting you. So, hi. Nice to meet you." She smiled wider, giving that warm smile she always gave and hoped that the dark skinned Acolyte wasn't offended by the lack of acknowledgment she gave him the previous night.
When she looked at the boy sitting next to Romon, Heather smiled at him too. He was quite good looking and physically reminded her of the boys back home. "Hi I'm sure you're new," she continued. She was still a bit gloomy however introducing herself to new people was helping her focus be diverted away from Gavin. "I'm Heather. New Mutant."

"Well you got better ears than me," she whispered "so whatever those two are talkin about might give you a better clue." k'8 nudged her head at Rikki and Gavin. "All's I saw was one mopey young lady and one classic 'freebird', so my educated guess? They broke up, but since there doesn't look like there's any hate I'm figurin they parted 'the closest of friends'." The last part she said with a bit of a mocking tone, but k'8 was just telling him what she saw. Riker trusted her eyes and her perceptions, a lifetime of watching the world from the sidelines with reserved disdain gave her quite some insight.
"As for the machine big guy, no problemmo. I wont let it hurtcha" she giggled as she grinned up at him. He was one cool Fur-Cap'n and she liked the trust he showed in her. It made her really feel like a part of the team, and even though she hadn't sat down and shared with him what happened at the animal shelter with her paper cut she was pretty sure the story had gotten around to him. She wondered what her role would become as the girl who could spawn an army of demons, too bad she'd have to bleed for it.

Without shame, Jocelyn burst out laughing at Jax falling on the floor. The guy looked like he was expecting something but definitely not that. "Oh yea man, I totally take it back," she said in between laughs holding her stomach. "Yea you totally got game. She not only pushed you on the floor, she turned right back to the other guy with the baby blues and the charms." A bunch of giggles escaped her as she tried to calm her giggling since it looked like class was about to start at any minute.
Reaching down, Joce gave him an arm up, unable to keep the smirk off her face and for more giggles to escape. "You were right about one thing, she is feisty. I like it," she said with another giggle and glanced back over at Ana. Her face scrunched curiously as she looked over at Jax with confusion swimming in her pretty ocean blue eyes. "What the hell did she mean she's too malnourished and anorexic or whatever? Am I missing something?"
Joce cocked her head to the side and looked over the raven haired girl's body as best as she could. It was no secret that she was thin, but she didn't look malnourished or anorexic at all. Her skin looked clear and bright despite being pale and her hair looked thick and healthy as ever. Those were definitely not the signs of anorexia or undernourishment, all she looked was well, small. "Yea I'm definitely missing something." She shook her head and shrugged, figuring it was an inside joke or something or other.

Kitty shook her head with a smile before bringing her fingers to her lips and letting out a loud piercing whistle to get everyone's attention. "Alright guys, get in your seats and settle down. Everyone got a partner? Good, cause if we get to it today, we're gonna have some fun," she said with a grin to all her students. She always tried to make her classes interesting, since she herself used to just hate the lecture classes. Every class she wanted to make something interactive, and her tests were generally really easy for others to follow, and she tried to make them interactive as well. All in all, she wanted her class to be one of the more fun classes offered at the school.
"Now in front of me is a polygraph, otherwise known as a lie detector." She pointed to the device on her desk. "Every federal agency all over the world use it, from the CIA to Units in the Police department. More and more, there are cases that people have to take a polygraph test before they get a position in a job." Kitty laughed at the look on some of the kids faces. "That's right guys, be ready for what the future holds. Anyways, like all pieces of technology we study, we look at both their strengths and their weaknesses. Let's start with how Polygraphs work."
Looking around at the group, many being new students, she smiled at them encouragingly. "Can anyone tell me how a Polygraph works? And please don't read from the textbook, if I wanted to hear that version I'd read it myself. I wanna hear how you think it works." She grinned at the group and hopped up on her desk next to the machine. "Anyone brave enough to take a shot?"

Handing a pen to Ana, he couldn't help but think how adorable her accent was. Romon himself knew he had an accent compared to Americans, but he was sure hers sounded much better than his, and it was just plain out hot. He smiled at the both girls, winking at Heather just to show that there were no hard feelings. He figured he walked in on something or other last night and he couldn't really hold it against her. Then again, he was a sucker for girls with a pretty smile and here he was sitting next to two of them.
Nudging Johnny to say something to the pretty girls, Romon raised his hand to answer the question that Kitty posed. "It measures your breathing and blood pressure I believe. When someone tells a lie, their blood pressure and breathing pattern usually react instantly," he answered as best as he could in his heavy Jamaican accent. Romon loved watching all those crime shows like Law & Order and Without a Trace so he remembered easily what they always looked for in the show, though he realized that was probably nowhere near the proper definition.
His dark eyes slid over to Ana again, giving her another smile. She truly was striking and she looked so familiar that he swear he saw her somewhere before. It was a bit funny how nasty she was to that guy behind her, but he got what was coming to him it seemed by his fall from the desk. It was difficult for Romon to keep a smile off his face when he got one from a set of pretty girls, especially since they both looked like they stepped out of a magazine. That and the eyes, he was always a sucker for blue eyes and now he had a pair of icy blue eyes and sky blue eyes looking in his direction. It actually took a lot out of him to tear his eyes to the front of the room to look at Kitty again.

How do I work? I work like f’cking dog and I don’t get no appreciation for it neither.
Dor burst into laughter even though, as far as the rest of the room was concerned, only the kid with the Jamaican accent had spoken. He quickly covered his mouth, shooting the Acolyte an apologetic look. “Sorry, fella. Ain’t you, it’s…” Grinning widely at Kitty, Dor’s dark eyes crinkled in amusement as he pointed to the polygraph. It was hit or miss figuring the adjustments to his power, but the more he focused on the lie detector, the clearer the machine’s 'voice' became. Inanimate speech was a tricky thing, especially when only he could hear it, but the lie detector was being perfectly clear.
Rotten meatbags. Would it kill'ya to say thank you once and a while? Well?
Listening, Dor rolled his eyes. Things could be so touchy. “Ah can tell you this much, ma’am. That is one sensitive piece of equipment. We’re talking menopausal sensitive.” He sat back in his chair, compulsively cleaning his glasses again. It was such a relief to have control over what he was hearing again. Fragile, shaky control, but control all the same. No more constant deafening racket. No more migraines likely to split his skull in two. No more people thinking he was insane. “But that fella’s right. Lie detectors are pretty much heart monitors, ain’t they? And when we lie our bodies react and it reads that reaction.”
Dor sat back in his seat, his hands laced behind his head. He didn’t care much one way or another about computers, or tech, but he the mental block that Frost had given him meant that he could once again be around people, and their belongings, without fear of excruciating pain. This was his first class in ages where he didn’t have Styrofoam shoved in his ears, or have to sit in the corner away from the others. It was a relief, and a privilege, and a downright pleasure to be sitting in Kitty’s class and Dor was going to make the most of it.

Okay, so that freakin' hurt. She had to stop using the telekenesis to try to hurt him man. He was just messin'. Okay, so he didn't mind the pool as much 'cause well... it didn't make his back side feel like someone'd dropped a freakin' bulldozer on it. "Pfft, she wouldn't have reacted if she didn't care man." Jax said, his voice regaining the cool-ness it normally held when he was trying to brush off some form of embarrassment. "You know she's only talkin' to Dreads over there 'cause he's givin' her the constant puppy dog eyes and 'cause she's trying ta make me jealous. Pfft, you women need a new book man. All these little tricks are gettin' old." he whispered in an undertone to Joce, rolling his eyes.
"And pfft, the aneorexic thing was a Joke man. She kept callin' me a farmboy so I just teased her a lil' bout her weight. No biggie." he said casually with a shrug, not really seeing why Joce would be worried about Ana commenting on the whole aneorexic thing. The way Jax saw it: the girl was just goin' with the flow... y'know? Playin' along. He didn't see the big deal in it. His eyes flickered over to Ana and Heather's table and he rolled his eyes at the pen in her hand. That had to be like the lamest trick in the book. "She's telekenetic, man. She could've easily make her own pen float outta her own room or some sh*t, or asked Heather- I mean, they're BFF's right? And look she has more than one pen!" he hissed in a voice so low he was sure that even Riker with his super-hearing wouldn't be able to hear him. No one except Joce would, "She only asked stupid Dreads over there 'cause she's trying to make me jealous." he concluded, more-so reassuring himself than he was Joce.
His eyes dropped over to the Garage Guy again, who still hadn't given him his name. Heh. Douchebag he was. "Although, lie detectors aren't a hundred percent accurate either." he added lookin' over at Kitty with a knowing look on his face. He figured if he was gonna talk in the lesson, giving his input in the class ought to make up for it. It's like he always said: if he messed about but got the work done at the same time, he didn't see why anyone would have a problem with him. "You can train your body using things like meditation so that your body doesn't go all schizo when you're lying."

Kitty was sincerely impressed that it was the new students who answered her question right away. "That's exactly how a Polygraph works! It measures a person's blood pressure and their respiration, as theoretically whenever you tell a lie, your blood pressure and breathing patterns react in the most subtle of ways that can only be picked up by a machine or someone seriously trained to look for it. Well said, Romon, Dor. Ten points to Gryffindor!" she threw her head back and laughed before grabbing some of the wires that connected a person to the polygraph. "And thank you Jax for bringing up my next point. Polygraphs are in fact, fallible and there are ways to beat it that are quite efficient."
She hopped down from the table and looked at each of her students in turn. "Like Jax said, one way to fool the polygraph is by calming your body and taking control of the reactions, making them steady no matter what question you answer. However, it is much harder than you may think." The grin on her face spread as she looked at the whispers among the students, and she could bet that it wasn't all about what she was talking about. "The second method, and I know any Ocean's 11 fans here will know about it, is to use pain to produce the same reaction when telling the truth as your body would have when lying, making the results inconsistent. That's why in that one scene the guy had the tack in his shoe when he was being tested. Now the pain method, though the easiest, doesn't always work as it depends highly on your pain tolerance."
"Because of those two best known methods, it makes the results of a lie detector inadmissible in court. That doesn't mean though, that they aren't used as valid grounds for arrest. Which brings us to today's lesson." Kitty clapped her hands and looked excitedly at the class. "Mutants especially are forced to take lie detector tests just to admit that they are mutants, which unfortunately is enough to use as evidence of guilt no matter what. So today we are each going to take a lie detector test, and before any of you get too excited or scared, you are ONLY allowed to use the most basic and general questions that I will write on the board. The goal of this exercise is that you are going to choose one of the methods, or come up with your own method to beat the test."
She walked to the side of the room and began handing out smaller versions of the polygraph she had with the automated machine attached to it. "At the end of class, those brave souls that think they found a good method to beat the test, get to try it out up here in front of the class," Kitty said with a beaming grin as she handed out the mini polygraph machines. "Now you're going to hook the pulse points up just like... this!" Her laptop projected the chart of all the major pulse points where the wires needed to be. "Ready? Begin!"

"Oh maaaan, lookit this!" She said flipping it open like some kind of Star Trek flippy-open thingy and grinning at Riff~Raff. "UmmmKitty? Are these things as accurate as the big one?" She looked up and over to see her team leader as she handed the last doohickey out.
"I heard something about the military trying to make little hand helds for use on terrorists and stuff in Afghanistan. Are these like those?" She flipped it open and shut another time or two and realised in an 'Ah-HA' moment that "No- They're different. I thought I read how the military ones are s'pposta be wireless. Do we have like the prototypes or something?" k'8 was checking her device out and trying to figure out how it hooked up. She was not about to hook up Riker, he'd already made it pretty clear he would have no part of it. At least, she thought, not until he saw it was safe and he could trust it, so Katie tried hooking it up to herself first.
"Okaaay? Does this look right Fur-Cap'n?" She looked at the diagram and then to Riker to see if he had picked up on anything she might have missed.

Though he tried his best to smile when the girls introduced himself, he was so out of practice that it just felt forced. The girls were in fact really pretty, and he did want to make at least a good impression. Kitty starting the lesson saved him from embarrassment and had him look ahead and pay attention to all that was said, trying to write down some notes while he was at it. Johnny hadn't written notes or been in a classroom for a long time. Even though it wasn't anything complicated exactly, she just seemed to talk so fast and he was getting all jumbled in his head.
When Kitty announced that they were to work with partners, Johnny had just given up on taking notes and following along. He sighed and looked at the small machine in front of them, and then back at the diagram. He looked around to see what the other people were doing, and sighed as he picked up the wires. "I guess I can start with this," he said quietly as he attached two of the wires to the inside of this wrist and one on the vein in his neck. The last wire he attached to his upper chest, trying to get the position just right. Pressing the power button, he watched the machine spring to life.
"Go easy on me, I'm still expecting to be shocked by this thing," Johnny said looking at the machine skeptically. His eyes slid again to the girls again to see what they were doing. Heather... is she the same one that's supposed to tutor me? How exactly do I ask if she's the one without giving myself away? He swallowed and tried to figure out how to come about all of it.

"HA! Ladies first, which means you get to spill your deepest darkest secrets first! MUAHAHAHAHA!" Gavin did his evil laugh at the end as he grabbed the wires and started putting them to Ricki's pulse points. He had a bit of trouble with the adhesive around the wires and had to use him thumb to press it down on her wrists. "Now I will know all about your mad passionate love for winged guys and have the test to prove it!" He said with a laugh as he carefully moved her light hair aside and stuck one wire to her neck and handed her the other one so she could put it on her chest. "Now you can't accuse me of violating you."
Gavin grinned and waited for herself to get the last wire hooked up and then started up the machine, watching in fascination as it adjusted to Ricki's blood pressure and breathing. "Damn this is awesome, ok let's start with the obvious. Is your name Ricki Day?" He watched with wide eyes as she answered to see how her readings remained steady on the little screen.
"Okay now let's try one were I know you'd lie," Gavin said thinking for a moment. "Is it true that you are madly in love with Hardlight?" He laughed at the thought and studied the screen for the result. "Now just to come up with a method. C'mon Ricki, try to lie to me," Gavin grinned at her and nudged her slightly. This actually looked like it was going to be fun, and he loved playing around with her like this, though he had a feeling they'd be shit out of luck finding a method.
