This rpg will feature your character as he/she/it attends the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning. You must make a new mutant, a character of your own design. There will certainly be appearances by those well known heroes and villains, but your character must be original. Keep in mind you will be young and your powers will have just emerged, so keep it simple (best to just have one or two powers to start) and remember this is the school where you will learn to control them.
Before you start anything, Read the Welcome Notice.. This is essential in starting off right in applying, and will not only show us how well you follow rules but also give you an idea of what happens at this school. As a side note, it is often very obvious who has read the Welcome Notice and who hasn’t, and you don’t want to be part of the latter.
NOW.. in order to pop up on Cerebra's "mutant radar" and be accepted at the Institute please post a new thread (use your back button and start a new thread copy and fill in the code below) with your character's name, age, and power (remember not too powerful you're just finding out how to use what you've been given!)
Include at least three paragraphs for a description of what your character looks like(to include...but not limited to height, weight, hair color, eye color and gender if applicable) and what part of the world they hail from.[/u]
Provide for me at least three paragraphs presenting your characters personality, their likes and dislikes and general demeanor. Please Note that the Personality is the most important portion of your application, as the better we know you, the better we are able to place you.
Finally, write out the events of your powers emergence (in past tense form...at least five paragraphs long, the more descriptive the better)* Please keep in mind that most mutant’s powers emerge when they hit puberty. It is a time in everyone’s life where your body changes and your hormones are all over the place, the perfect time for the X-Gene that all mutants have to become active. Since it is accepted that puberty commonly occurs between the ages between 11-13, should you wish to apply as an older student, please provide a very detailed and very thorough reason why you were not attending the school sooner, as Cerebra would have found you the moment your power became active.
Though there are cases where the mutant power occurs at birth, this situation is extremely rare. Should that be the case, be prepared to not only allow your creativity to shine, but it must be completely original, thoroughly thought out, and must make sense. Should it not meet these standards, there is a good chance it will be rejected. For that matter an application might be reject for any number of reasons. Consider what it is- you are applying to participate here, asking to be accepted.. so do put your best foot forward and write something wonderful.
Once you have been accepted you will be given a codename (if you have one in mind let me know- I will take it under advisement when determining yours. Please understand that there are many students who have passed through these halls and each has a codename of their own).-copy and paste the headings from the boxed in area below into your own thread labeled with your character's name (real name not a codename) as the subject, and fill it in and wait for a response. I might ask you to elaborate or alter a thing or two, but I should respond to you within three days...thank you, Ms. Frost
A NOTE ON CHOOSING YOUR POWER[/size]
Here at the Academy, there are people with a variety of powers, some purely offensive, some purely defensive, a select few that are a mix of both, and then there are those who have passive powers as well. Please note that all the powers that the students have are all fitting to the character as whole.
In other words, the character’s personality is directly linked to their power. The urge or inclination to claim for yourself an offensive power might be overwhelming, however many of the more interesting characters on the site and those that are respected and honored are those that have intriguing and imaginative ‘functionary powers’.
Suffice it to say, a character’s power if played in context respectfully and "in character", no matter how insignificant it may seem, makes all the difference. In other words, it doesn’t matter if your character can only make those around them have bad breath. If played properly, this ridiculous power might save the world.
So with that in mind, don’t focus on a power that will make others fear you or one that will be most threatening to other characters. Focus on one that you’ll have the most fun to play, one that matches and fits the character you have in mind. This will result in a richer and respected character, and you will be guaranteed to have a better experience playing in this RPG. Remember, you’re playing a character with mutant powers- NOT a collection of mutant powers with no character to back it up. Your primary focus should be the person behind the power.
