After Kyle literally tossed his bag into his room, he made his way down to the medical lab. He was hoping Beast would be there. He needed to get himself checked up. He hadn't really had his implants or his power examined in a couple months. Also Kyle never did tell Beast about the blue sparking energy that shot off his body when he was dialed up. The itching of his implants had become less irritating. The meeting with Inflict that night had really left its mark on Kyle.
Kyle walked into the lab and looked around. The scene that just played out in the art class still ran through his mind. His eye was sore and a bit puffy, and his nose ached but had stopped bleeding. He made his way to one of the sinks and cleaned off his face from the blood and called out. "Dr. McCoy are you here? I need to check in with you."

Hank McCoy had a rather busy morning with all the new students that returned. He needed to organize medical records and establish tests on new arrivals for their medical history to be completely up to date. He already saw Austin Walker earlier that morning, and right now after numerous phone calls to Dante Sloan's old school and doctor and several frustrating times explaining his position, it was no surprise to anyone how frazzled and distracted the good Doctor appeared from the all the hassle.
"Oh Kyle yes welcome back! I was most pleased to hear that you were returning to us from Emma. You know you are the second one to come back to the school after a hiatus today," He exclaimed and walked over to him, warmly patting the boy's shoulder. "I do trust that you are a might overdue for a checkup yes? Lucky for you I can pencil you in for right now," he said brightly and went over to the large computer screen to bring up Kyle Nomis medical file. "Mmmhmm.. yes I see. Well I still need to update your file. If there is anything you need- oh my stars and garters! What happened to your face young man?" Hank exclaimed noticing for the first time the large puffy eye and the nose that was completely out of place.
"Hmm... we'll have to take care of that nose right away. I daresay you don't want it to stay like that. We'll have to put it back in place," he said after examining Kyle's face. "Niki! Would you please take a break from the analyzing the blood tests for a moment and come help me. Oh and please bring the notes I have on Mr. Nomis' in the blue folders. It seems we're due for another system update soon!" Hank called to his lab assistant to come from the Genetics Lab.

Pulling back from the microscope she was eyeball deep in Niki Sanchez, the infamous Haven... a former member of The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants...terrorist bomber...and sworn enemy of the patient about to be examined, raised one eyebrow in anticipation of an opportunity to 'help' the good Dr. McCoy. "Sure Doc, be right there." she said in a chipper voice.
The afore mentioned folder was already out and next to her notes on the blood she was examining. It was the blood of the Demon Spawner, daughter of Belasco and all American goth-self-mutilator, D'mnchyld. Rendered inert from non-exposure to the air she was very careful to take the slide and return it to storage. Beast and she had some ideas on how to harness k'8s powers, but the true test was in the girls own heart it seemed. Haven shook her head at the wasted potential the girl had.
Devil's blood safely stored away she scooped the folder off the tabletop and crossed through to the Med-Lab. "System's update huh? Is that what he's calling the crutches this punk has on him?" she muttered to herself. Haven didn't know the details of Kyle's difficulty but she did know he was reliant upon the implants that Beast had placed throughout his body to maintain his control.
A bigger chink in someone's armor never there was, oh boy oh boy...this is gonna be fun. If he thinks I've forgotten, or forgiven him well....he's in for a biiig surprise. "Here ya go Doctor, blue folder." she took a step back and folded her arms, cocking her head to one side as she looked at Kyle.

Seeing the doctor and hearing his warm greeting made Kyle feel a bit better. He felt that between Chase, Colossus and Beast there was a chance he might be accepted again. As Beast asked about his face Kyle smirked. Colossus already knew and was going to speak with Ian about it. Kyle really didn't want anymore trouble over what happened and all because he couldn't keep his mouth in check. So he simply remarked "I kinda walked into a door." He sighed as he heard about having to have his nose set. He knew it hurt, but after his encounter with Inflict, he knew what real pain was, and knew he could handle a bit of pain with his nose.
"Ummm yea, I haven't had my implants looked at since I left and there was something I neglected to tell you last time we spoke about my check up." Kyle was referring to the blue sparks of energy that shot off his body when he dial up. And the faster he moved the more the sparks grew. "I'm glad to be back, even if most everyone doesn't seem to be." He Looked over to Haven as he said that. It was a simple casual glance. He knew how much she did hate him. And since nothing was ever resolved between them, he didn't know how she felt about him being here again.
Kyle saw the look at him. He had no idea what thoughts were behind that look. He didn't see anything that would clue him into how she felt. He had picked on her when they had first arrived. Then when she joined the Brotherhood she had hit him with some kind of gas. Thankfully he was already dialed up and his respiration being sped up had pumped out the gas from his system quickly enough so that he was able to react in time to help save the school. When he left she was still under close observation. But now she was walking the halls and in classes. He knew she had seen him get hit by Ian and was sure she probably enjoyed it. So as she looked at Kyle he merely gave a light smile that lacked his cocky look, and then looked away and back to Beast.

Hank glanced at the file that Niki brought for him and scrunched his brow as he read through his notes. "Yes I see. We will run a standard test right away. First though, we need to rest that nose of yours," he said and turned to Kyle, grabbing his nose firmly. "This will hurt, but I'm sure it will also make breathing much easier." A series of snaps from the bones setting in place as Hank reset the young Paragon boy's nose. "There, that's must feel much better. Oh dear, you're bleeding. Nothing to worry about, it happens sometime. Here you are just hold a tissue to your nose for awhile," he said handing him a tissue.
Taking one more look at the medical files, Hank stood up and went over to his desk. "Hmm... it seems you are due for a full check up as well. We will do that first before some tests for your powers. Up now young man, we have a bit ahead of us for now. Niki, I do realize you have plans but would you mind staying a few minutes extra than usual? If we finish early you are by all means free to go," Hank said with a smile to his lab assistant. Niki had earned a place of trust within Dr. McCoy's lab that a rare few had. She had access to most of the records and under Hank's careful guidance, she learned how to analyze various material and learned the skills that took many forensic scientists and some doctors even much longer to learn. It was at the point now that Niki had her own login information to the records, though there were some she still did not have access to for security reasons. Hank trusted her immensely and was proud to be the one to shape and teach her all she asked.
The next hour was spent with Fleet getting his blood drawn, submitting a urine sample, getting an EKG, and all the standard tests for a basic checkup. Hank had all the data on a tray on the side that he would analyze later for his records. "Alright Mr. Nomis, now we will do the tests required on those implants I gave you. Tell me, is there anything I should know regarding developments in your power since we last met three months ago? Any problems or what not?" Hank asked as he set up the machine to take power tests on his implants.

"Sure Doc, whatever you need. You know I'm good to go, I'll stay as long as you need me." It was true that she had better things to do, and far better company to keep than Kylefreakin Noballs, but Hank had been there for her and made her life here tolerable in the depths of her punishment. While she proved herself worthy to remain, did the penance that an ex-villain and her pet boyscout told her needed doing and the like, he brought her patience and kindness in his every look and word. For that she loved him like a father, in as much as the broken little creature knew of love for a father. The only other person who had ever filled that billing in her heart had been the twisted up, hell bent for mutant domination, megalomaniac known to the world at large as Magneto. He had whisked her up and away when she'd fled the Xavier Institute. He had taught her many things, very quickly and very painfully. Her mutant powers shunted away by devices in order that she know how blessed she was to have them. Her mind filled by telepathic implantation of knowledge. Her heart filled with hatred for humanity and mutant kind as well. Her nights, oh god if she could forget she wished to forget the nights, filled with beatings and rapes from a creature more savage than any demon she saw in Limbo. She had never been an angel, never done the right thing, but she knew what right was as a contrast to her life. She had been orphaned maybe or just left for dead she didn't know, but her life had been hard from the start. She was no stranger to the streets, or doing what had to be done to eat or sleep in a safe place. Before she had gotten her powers she had had many a scrape and come through just fine. A survivor like no other, just too damn stubborn to die and to prideful to give in. So the training the Brotherhood gave her, that might have killed a lesser being, only made her stronger. As she looked at Kyle, stupid inept spastic little wanna be tough boy, her mind rolled back through the training.

Kyle was caught a little off guard as he listened to Beast talk about the physical. When Beast reached up and gripped his nose and moved it around and set it back in place with the light sounding crunch, Kyle hissed in a deep breath. It hurt, but again nothing compared to Inflict's touch. He grabbed a couple paper towels and held them to his nose to stop the bleeding. He held the paper towel during the entire physical and by the time Beast had finished with them all his nose stopped bleeding.
As Beast prepared the equipment to test the implants and his power Kyle reached up and ran his fingers over the implants on his temples. Beast had asked about any development in his powers, and there was. After he got the implants and his power was found out to be completely different then it started out as, when he dialed up to higher speeds the would be surges and arcs of blue energy erupting from his eyes and the implants. They didn't cause any pain or bother him in any way. It actually felt good. The power and energy surging through him drove him on, feed him to higher and higher speeds. He hadn't told Beast last time he was here about it. He had opened his mouth at the wrong time and made a bit of a scene again in front of Cyclops, Rogue, and Beast. But now he had to get it checked so it wouldn't come back to hurt him later. "Ummm Yea, there is something that you should see. But it only happens when I am dialed up at level six or higher. I haven't had any negative effects from the implants, except some itching. It's .... well you see when ..... Dr.McCoy it would be easier to just show you." Not knowing really how to explain it fully.
He saw the tread mill he had used last time to track his speed and vitals while he was running. Kyle approached it, took off his jacket and tossed it on to a chair and stretched. He wasn't the biggest kid, or the strongest. But under his jacket he was well built from all the sports and running he did. Kyle reached over to his dialing device on his hand and prepared for the surge of energy that was about to be released into his body. "So where would you like me to start?" He asked with his brow raised.

Dr. McCoy looked up startled from his notes. "You went up past level six? Mr. Nomis I warned you against bringing it up to high. Is that the only way you can see the blue energy? Well then proceed for now but I do heed you caution," He said while turning on the speed measuring equipment and the body scan projector. He set the treadmill up on free run so he could use all the speed he needed. "Proceed then, but be careful," Dr. McCoy warned as the test began. He didn't know exactly what level Fleet was dialed up to, but it looked rather fast. Within five minutes of the computer recording and Hank's own observation, he heard a loud snap and saw Fleet fly off the treadmill. "Oh my stars and garters! Oh I knew this would happen, Kyle dial yourself down," he said and rushed over to him.
Checking him over, he saw that the muscle had snapped in his leg, just as he feared it would. "Oh my boy, I did warn you about going too fast. You aren't able to teleport so to speak as you once did, you could kill yourself going too fast." Hank helped him up and brought him over to the table and set him up carefully. "Just as I suspected, the blue spark is the energy your body produces to counter the friction and inertia and keep you from bursting into flames from moving through the air molecules so fast. That is why the dials are there, to keep that energy in check and keep from killing you. You will need to keep those implants until your body can once again move in sync at that speed. Haven please pass me the muscle wraps over there... thank you my dear," he said to her with a kind smile, knowing that helping Fleet was the last thing she wanted to do.
Hank continued explaining his findings while he set Kyle's leg. "Though you will never be able to teleport as you once did, your top speeds will be quite impressive. From my records you could theoretically run on water at the top speed, but that perhaps will be your limit without killing yourself. In simpler terms, a bullet will still be faster than you, which may be a problem to dodging anyone with a semi automatic, but you won't find many of those here," he said with a slight chuckle as he wrapped the muscle. "However, until your body becomes in sync with the energy your body produces, I caution you to not test your limits. Running on water now may cause you a severe injury. I imagine it will take some time for that to occur. Until then, I suggest you get used to each speed under level six. With regular checkups I'll keep up tabs when your body is fully in sync with the energy," Dr. McCoy said brightly just as he finished patching up the body's leg.
"Speaking of implants, they are far overdue for some testing as well. Niki, could you please get the testing wires from the bottom drawer in my lab? And please attach them to the proper implants, the section they are in should be labeled. Otherwise it may cause Mr. Nomis here a bit of discomfort. I'll go start up the program for the power testing," he said moving back to his computer and leaving the set up to his trusted lab assistant.

"Right Doc, I'll be careful." her voice held a note of pleasant wind-chimes as she replied to Beast, however Niki didn't show even an ounce of emotion as she walked past the former teleporter and into the next room, not looking at the Paragon at all as she went. Grabbing up the testing coils and guidechart oh wow this is too easy, look at this these implants here are only rated up to point six and these few here, here, and here go all the way up to two point five....nice, just what I was hoping for. Examining the chart as she walked back into the lab where Kyle was, still not making eye contact with him, she moved to a sanitization station along the wall behind him.
She spoke in a pleasant monotone, detached from what she was feeling toward him. "Remove your shirt and lay back. These need to attach to the implants you have." Spending some several more minutes looking over the chart as she sanitized her hands and placed latex gloves on. The chart she placed upside down on the rolling table she used to bring the tools and the wires she layed out in a certain order over to Fleet's position in the center of the lab.
Once at his bedside she never looked away from him as she went about her work. The rolling table with the testing coils and guidechart she left discreetly out of Kyle's view at the head of the exam table she began attaching the wires. She even went so far as to poke him with a wire when he tried to steal a glance at it "Remain still please." she cautioned him in the same emotionless voice, much like a pre-recorded voice-mail prompt, pleasant in tone yet devoid of inflection.
She had attached all but two wires as indicated. Intentionally switching them so as to cause him something just short of a lethal jolt. On the chart they were close enough in numeric code so that the sabotage would easily enough be considered an accident. It would either produce a cardiac arrest, or a flash flood of electrical impulses through his brain...or both...the end result being an eruption of agony. The seizures and contortions of pain would be a blast to watch, like a puppet show on speed, and she twisted the last wire into place without so much as as slight change in her facial expressions. "All set in here Doctor McCoy, ready when you are!" she called out wheeling the table back to the sanitization station.

Kyle's return was worse then he thought it would be. He had been hit in the face with a trash can, snapped a muscle in his leg and now he was wired up to a machine. His leg was killing him and he felt like a lab freak. His bare chested body lying on a lab table with those implants all over his body. Hooked up with all kinds of equipment. The thought of Frankenstein came to his mind. While Haven, of all people, had hooked him up he had kept his eyes averted and for the most part closed. Haven hadn't showed and reaction to any of this, but deep inside Kyle though she must have enjoyed seeing him so weak and pathetic.
Kyle was cursing himself silently for ever coming to this school. Since he had been there nothing had worked out right. He had lost a significant part of his power. Once a teleporter, or so he thought, his use of his power had caused a severe change. He had those implants placed on him to help control the energy that ran through him. Then the attack where Haven attacked him. Followed by the wicked touch of Inflict that still disturbed him. His power seemed to be causing more trouble for him. He had thought that the speedster power was great. But the power had been getting more and more out of control. Finally he had tried to show Beast and his power had failed him again, snapping a muscle in his leg. Kyle felt less then useless.
The test and maintenance of his Implants had started out normal. He felt the tingle of his implants from the charge. He had his eyes closed tight hoping to just breeze through the testing and be out of here and away from Haven. That's when his eyes shot open, his arm jumped out of control, then his leg kicked out. Kyle's eyes grew wider still. He felt it inside, something was wrong. The charge was starting to hurt. Kyle opened his mouth to try and tell Beast, but no words came out. Fear shot through his eyes as Beast was still watching the monitors. Kyle couldn't speak, his body started to spasm and jerk. He gave Haven a pleading look for help as the pain began to overwhelm him. His hands, out of reflex, clenched the table he was on. His back arched so much his head and heels were the only thing touching the table. Kyle's body bowed over the table. Then the table and Kyle shook violently rattling through the lab. The readings and the sound had caught Beast's attention and he shut the machine off. But it was to late as Kyle's body plopped to the lab table. Smoke and sparks came off the implants. The damage had been done. Kyle stopped breathing.

The second that Kyle's breathing stopped, it came right back as Dr. McCoy brought him into sitting and pressed into the implant on his head to give him the jolt to come back. "Kyle are you alright? I am so sorry, I don't know how this happened," Hank exclaimed putting pressure over his heart to make sure all was well. "Deep breaths there, deep breaths... There you are, just like that," he said as he sat Kyle up straight and patted his back. "I checked this machine just the other week, I should have checked it beforehand, I apologize again."
Hank began looking over the machine and found nothing wrong with it. It wasn't until he looked at the implants did it dawn on him what happened. "Ah so it wasn't the machine after all, I knew I should have labeled these tabs clearer. Niki, you need to be more careful when placing these on the correct implant. This weekend I will work on getting the wires into a more clear code. I'm terribly sorry Kyle, I should have realized that the labeling on these was not as clear as they should have been," he apologized again and gave him a drink of water to calm down and switching the wires himself.
In the next half hour, there was a series of tests done and Dr. McCoy managed to update Fleet's implants without incident. Hank gave him strict instructions to not go too high with his power level, and to only stick to what he was comfortable with. After wrapping tightly the strained muscle of his leg with Niki's help, he told Kyle that he may still be able to participate in practice, but he recommended an aspirin and to take it easy. They wrapped up the session generally swiftly after that, Hank sending Jumper to dinner and cleaning up with Niki. When they finished, he sent Niki off, knowing she had her own plans to attend to for the evening. Meanwhile, Hank was looking forward to an evening spent with Rogue, sampling her delicious Southern cuisine and watch some old John Wayne movies, a sort of routine that they fell into over the past couple of months. Tonight was The Alamo night, and Hank couldn't wait.
