The boiling hot water poured down her newly healed form, washing away the touch and sensations that Tracy couldn't physically heal. A sigh left Aideen's mouth as she relaxed against the stream of scalding hot water, the small bathroom so thick with steam that it was hard to see the area around her clearly. So many thoughts ran through her mind, yet none stood out as much as those that contained her fears and her confusion. The look on Logan's face in the building when she told him the conditions of the lashes was seared in her mind, as permanent as a third degree burn. She touched her lips with her fingertips, still feeling that brief kiss that seemed to convey so much. I may be misinterpreting everything. I should have brought my books with me, I don't think googling it will be as helpful. I need to think about this all rationally and objectively, because I'm driving myself into a frenzy trying to make sense of everything as is. And as the blistering hot water cascaded down form and the room filled with the signature scent of black raspberry and vanilla, Aideen indulged in her analytical thought, her emotions pushed back as she tried to make sense of everything logically. Let's see, being that this is categorized as an Eros relationship, and arguably Pragma style, though it has a sense of Agape style as well. That being the case... I shouldn't be thinking in these terms. I need to try and analyze and figure out my insecurities in the process. A sigh left her lips as she washed the conditioner out of her hair, analyzing this emotion, trying to dissect it. An insecurity is natural after something like this. It may be because I am bothered about him thinking I have more experience in this whole thing than I actually do. I'm going off of what is coming naturally and what I read in those books. What else do I have to go on really? I need to start trusting my instincts with these things, they seem to be right when dealing with these feelings too. I should probably start talking to Logan about this. According to those books, most relationships fail because of withdrawal and extreme guardedness, and isn't that what I'm doing now? I can't have this fail too. Just like that, the fear hit her and she had a grasp of what it was exactly as she stepped out of the shower/bathtub while wrapping the towel around her body. Aideen's issue was when she realized that she had repeated that pattern of allowing herself to get close to someone, and experienced for that one dreadful moment in the car that feeling of total loss and loneliness. She didn't want to lose anymore people, and especially not him. Right now she was in totally foreign territory and she had no idea how to act. It scared her but she wouldn't let it go. She couldn't do it, for the past couple of months she'd felt more alive and more happy than she had her entire life. She wasn't willing to give that up. Sitting at the edge of the tube, Aideen turned on the water to the max on hot, drawing herself a bath. She leaned against the wall with her towel wrapped around her and stared at the water, heating it up even more as she lost herself in her thoughts, putting together the complicated puzzle that consisted of her thoughts and emotions into terms she could understand. How can he even look at me without disgust now? They say that every experience with an individual has you looking at them differently and they at you. He's seen my shame, a part of my life I never wanted him to see, and yet he didn't hesitate to touch me. What if I did lose that physical appeal and attractiveness? The books said that it happens particularly after a highly emotional and conflicting event... She sighed as her finger swirled in the water, heating it up as she used all the hot water in the building at this point and she wanted a boiling bath. They don't have enough books on these things.

"The only thing you missed Tracy was the baboon like 'my balls are bigger than yours' behavior from these two apes, both talking about how they screwed each other's mom and sister, cause you know that makes them soooo manly," Lai said rolling her eyes as she finished her coffee. "I don't get you guys, what satisfaction do you get at claiming you're sleeping with each others relatives? And furthermore I bet if I said that I was sleeping with your brothers or fathers, it would piss you off. Now how the hell does that make sense? Actually don't enlighten me, it's too early in the morning for all this."
She stood up, starting to gather the empty plates and put them in the sink politely, as they were still guests here. That however did nothing to stop her rant. "Do you know how many assholes I have to deal with in school that play that 'my balls are bigger than yours' game? I go to HARVARD! I mean you would think a school like that would be without douche bags, since you know you're supposed to be smart to get in there, but no, you have these jackasses there because 'daddy pulled some strings' and I have to deal with their obnoxious behavior in every class I take. What is it with guys and fart jokes by the way? It's disgusting, there is nothing funny about farts. All it does is tell me that you have gas problems, and that's oh so attractive to a girl," Lai said sarcastically washing the dishes in the sink.
She was prone to these rants, and from the casual look on Ingrid's face and the looks on Dylan's and Mike's face, it seemed like an obvious. At the moment she chose to go on with the rant as everyone ate, clearing the plates as she ranted, barely stopping for a breath. If there was one thing she hated, it was those asshole guys that lived off their parents money, while she worked her butt off since grade school to attend Harvard on full scholarship. She did all the required extra curricular activities and tons of volunteer work all over Europe and even in Africa to be legible. In the end, she still had to deal with morons in a school that was supposedly for the best of the best.
And everyone that was at that kitchen, dogs and all, got an earful from the feisty and opinionated Lai about all of that and the injustices of it for the rest of that meal too flared to let anyone get a word in edgewise. "And for the record, you better all believe that when I become a successful lawyer, it will all be worth it to prosecute half those morons I deal with for the DUIs and domestic abuse charges that I know will come their way. And man it will feel so good to stick it to them," she said while washing the last of the plates. They all mostly just had their drinks in front of them and surprisingly enough they left barely enough food for Logan and Aideen. Mike and Mason knew how to eat, that was for sure.
She stood behind Mike's chair and leaned down to wrap her arms around his neck from behind, resting her chin on top of his head. "I will verbally and figuratively rip these douche's ball off when I get the chance. And when I do I will laugh!" she declared with a slight grin on her face. It was almost ironic that despite her hate for asshole men, she was dating the leader of the march in most senses. Mike wasn't all that bad, just never thought and was a lazy bum half the time. He was on his last chance with her though, and she would remind him of it every chance she got.

"Oh baby, you know that it wasn't my sister.. I don't have a sister. That was the dog!" Mike patted and stroked her arm as it rested there. His head turning just ever so and his eyes looking up to see if he could catch a glimpse of his woman. "He didn't mind though, he was a good boy, and he sure did like Mason." He reached over to grab his coffee. "Until now, though buddy" he raised his cup to toast Ironclad "I never knew how close the two of you were." He winked at Mason, knowing it was probably going to get his neck cranked down on in some adorable- smellin like baby powder -choke hold that Lai would lay on him and he casually sipped on his java.
He honestly loved her. Everything about her was wonderful to him, even her rants... no especially her rants. She was like this fired up warrior woman when she got rolling and he knew she was gonna be Hell on rollerskates when she finally got to do her hoity-toity lawyer thing. He couldn't wait. He had made the promise to himself be there for the duration of her first trial, and then as many more as he could through the years. He felt pretty confident he could commit to that. He knew it would be a killer floorshow every time, as long as she could channel her aggression like she'd just done, and he wouldn't miss it for the world... well, okay if the world was in jeopardy, but c'mon how often does that.. oh yea, well.. I'll try real hard not to miss it.

Mason cracked a grin and shook his head, small chuckles escaping him as his fist banged on the table in humor. "You just got a family of animals huh? You're old man was a dog, that son of a bitch, you're mom's a cow, and now you're own sister is a dog? Man I knew you were pretty much raised by swine, but that's a little crazy," he retorted with the same grin, full on expecting to get an earful from Lai or at least a glare or something.
"Aw come on Lai, we're only messing around. I haven't seen this son of a bitch in almost two years, we gotta bust each other's chops. We're probably not gonna do that for awhile, although I gotta say guys, we can't let let so much time go back before we get together again," he pointed out, lifting his coffee cup in a promise. Mason had a good time seeing them again, even if they did have a crazy night. It was amazing to see where they ended up from the teammates he knew back in Xavier's, and it made realize how much older he got in the last couple of years too.
"You know I'm thinking that the end of May I'll grab this crew for a weekend and go to Vegas. You guys should find out if you can join us. It might end up being a crazy ass weekend and definitely a good time." A big grin crossed his face that held a hint of sarcasm and mischief. "I mean come on, what kind of trouble could we get into in Vegas?"

"That," Dylan said setting down his empty juice glass with an amused look on his face. "Is possibly the most dangerous statement I've ever heard. The pure thought of the six of us staying in Sin City for three days, plus Logan and Aideen, well that statement alone signify's a good deal of trouble." He looked knowingly at all of them, including his own girlfriend. Sweet as Ingrid was, he knew for a fact that she knew how to party with the best of them. She was elegant and could move through any crowd, a little too well according to Dylan.
He himself was incredibly good at most casino games. Some of them, like poker and craps, he played almost mindlessly and ended up winning, as well as those electronic card games on the machines near the bars. He'd been there with Ingrid once before and also with Mike after the graduated from the Institute. It had been their last sort of big thing before they had to start S.H.I.E.L.D. training. It had also been Dylan's first time in a strip club that Mike dragged him to, and to this day he still didn't understand the appeal. He was fairly sure that the girl that gave him the lap dance was underage, but that was besides the point.
"I have to check my schedule and get a definite date. Ingrid's movie comes out next month so I am already taking a week off. It would be actually perfect if it fell on the weekend of that week. I don't think I can pull enough strings to take more time off," Dylan said as an afterthought, glancing at Ingrid with a smile. He always did his best to get as much time off as he could to make it to her big events. Life had been great for Dylan since she came into it, and he was not planning on letting her slip away.

Several minutes later, the door to Aideen's bedroom opened as she walked out quietly, hair swept up in a neat bun and her face free of any makeup. The bath ended with her mind full of more questions than answers. She had no access to the books from the library or those in Dr. McCoy's office, and she didn't know what theories she had studied could be applied to her situation that she did not already know. Her mind tried its best to make sense of the situation, to try and think what everything that transpired would mean as she got dressed in her usual attire of jeans and a long sleeved t-shirt.
Aideen knew shouldn't make a concrete judgement until she actually spoke to him, but for some reason found a new hesitancy come into her at the thought of raising such a complex subject. Perhaps she didn't want to know the answers, the fear of what they might be getting the better of her rationale, she had no way of being sure. It bothered her that the chances of anything being as good as it was were slim and the possibility that she was now less appealing physically and as a whole, being what the books called 'damaged goods' in layman's terms. Being that it was a very likely chance given what happened between them, she had resigned herself to believe that her image was permanently damaged and would go by what the book had said. When she returned to the school, she would study further to learn what should happen and how she was to react.
Walking casually into the kitchen with the Doberman, DeSoto walking protectively by her side, Aideen didn't let on that anything was wrong and reverted to her quiet and polite manner. "Good morning," she said softly, walking right to the cabinet to take the tea pot and begin making herself some of the Darjeeling tea. "Enjoy your... breakfast?" Her eyebrows knitted together in confusion as she looked at the leftover fruit salad and the concoction in the oven. And there goes all my fruit. Perfect. Aideen sighed and took a small carton of yogurt out of the fridge as she went through the process of brewing her tea, pushing all her concentration on the task to avoid all unpleasant thoughts that danced in her mind.

At Aideen's entrance, Ingrid shot up from Dylan's lap in excitement. She looked perfectly fine, if not a bit thoughtful, but even in the short time that Ingrid knew her, she had a feeling that Aideen was always thinking about something or other. "Good Morning! I'm so glad you joined us this morning, I made breakfast," she said proudly and went over to open the over to get the egg and cheese wrapped in bacon bits. "See look, we kept them warm for you and Logan when you come back!" She beamed down at the smaller girl with great big smile and set out the tray in front of her.
"We were just talking about doing another trip sometime soon. To Las Vegas this time!" Ingrid gushed, getting excited at the idea. She didn't know if something bad happened to Aideen or not, but she didn't want to make her feel uncomfortable by acting concerned and like there actually was something wrong. She chose to babble about something exciting like the trip they would possibly take all together. "I do love Las Vegas, it is like a different world! A chance to get dressed up and act like big shots and just silly, as you never see anyone from there again. We all should go! And then I can go with the girls and get a new dress and get all done up for a night of gambling, dinner and dancing and just one REAL wild night. It will be amazing fun!" She practically beamed in excitement as she tried her best to keep any questions from being asked to Aideen.
She liked her a lot and felt an odd sort of connection to her, if only for that sense of true understanding she got from her. "We can stay at Caesar's Palace, or the Belagio! It will be hot in May over there, which means I can go bikini shopping! I can rent the pool area on the roof, and we'd have it all to ourselves! I think it would be a wonderful trip!" Ingrid exclaimed and moved to get a plate out for Aideen. "Would you like some? I'm sorry but we do not have anymore pudding left, but the salad and bacon wraps are delicious too right everyone?"

A smile lifted the corners of Tracy's lips. Ingrid was trying and yet she could feel the emotions of everyone, she knew how uncomfortable they all were, well all except for Mike but he was always a bit obtuse when it came to emotions. She had to giggle at the look on Aideen's face when she saw the 'food' that was presented to her and felt the sinking in her heart at having to put whatever that was in her mouth. "Aww be adventurous, try it. I honestly thought it was going to be worse than it was myself. I won't tell you how good it is, I'll let you decide for yourself."
She stood up and walked over to her friend, gently wrapping an arm around her as she handed her a fork. "I know you have a special diet" she said at a regular voice level and then whispered "and I couldn't save your fruit, sorry." Returning to a normal level she said "But you might broaden your horizons?" She shrugged with a giggle adding "-and if it it gives you a tummy ache then you'll have a great story about how 'The International Sweetheart' gave you food poisoning."
She gently stroked Ember's arm, encouraging her to join in with the spirit of this odd little meal. "You have to relax a little you know Aideen, this is supposed to be a vacation. It'll all be fine, really.. give it a chance to sink in." The fact that Tracy wasn't just speaking words that applied to breakfast, but to Ember and Wolverine's situation wasn't known to her. She could only guess at what might have happened, she only had the emotions she sensed to hint at what may have happened, but the wounds she had healed were not from Logan. They looked like whiplashes. "I know it feels like the end, but it's not over yet" she said in a soft tone. "Trust that there's still time today and plenty more good times to come." She winked at Ingrid, hoping the talk of vacations would help to lift the profound sadness she sensed emanating from Ember. Tracy hated to have to feel her friend in that kind of a funk.

"Well I, um pardon me I don't eat red meat or food cooked in oil," Aideen declined as politely as she could the rather gruesome sight of. "I'm sure it's... delicious." She carefully poured the hot team into a mug, the strong essence of the exotic spices filling the air as she breathed in the tea. Her dark eyes moved over to meet with Tracy's for a moment. The end? What is she talking about? I need to learn how to speak that 'girl code' that Niki was talking about.
She stirred her tea, trying to crack the code to Tracy's words. Some of the possibilities were ones that Aideen found less than favorable. Is that a way of telling me that things won't end with Logan and I? Well I knew that, he already had a chance to back out and he didn't, I was resisting more than him. I did read that studies show that many times men vouch to stay in relationships out of comfort. There is nothing exactly comfortable about the two of us, but after what he saw there is just no other conclusion to be made as to the tainted image I now hold. Though Aideen had been too proud to look in the mirror, she knew exactly what they looked like. It was not her first time paying penance for her sins, and she strongly doubted it would be her last.
Taking a polite and calculated drink for her tea, she kept herself in her thoughts. "I will have the yogurt, thank you," she said softly and brought her cup of tea, yogurt carton and a spoon over to sit next to Mason. The second she sat down, the doberman walked right next to her and sat beside her dutifully, placing his head over her foot as he laid by the chair, eying everyone around her. I even find myself less than appealing after all this. What am I thinking, there have been extensive studies done on relationships, I should trust those, make it easier on myself and resign myself to accept a new outlook on my relations. No wonder he couldn't get out of here faster, if I was in his place I'd want to as well. The literal 'heat of the moment' is enough to make many regretful decisions.
"Vegas huh? I've never been, but if I believe I had enough clothes shopping to last me a long time," Aideen commented, glancing at Mason, making a spark of playfulness come alive in her gaze. She had no desire to let anyone in on anything that might be wrong with her, and she needed to try and get her mind off those thoughts of dread. I need to stop thinking about this and just stick to what the books say. Something thoroughly studied can't be wrong, especially when all the signs point to it. I must leave these thoughts till I can investigate them further and do some more reading. Swallowing the thoughts into herself, Aideen opened the yogurt and swirled the spoon in it. "What's it like in Las Vegas?"

Mason's mouth lifted up in a slight grin as he sat back in his chair and happily recalled Las Vegas. "They don't call it Sin City for nothing Hot Stuff. It's a world of its own. You got your high class casinos and your sick clubs, but then you got the crazy strip joints and the underground gambling scene and pretty much every crazy thing you can imagine. Vegas is somewhere you gotta go at least once," he said smirking at Aideen and Tracy.
"Na you gotta go Aideen, even if Logan doesn't wanna go for some reason, you gotta go there at least once. Besides, then I'll be the talk of the town with two gorgeous hot chicks next to me," he teased and had to crack a grin at the look on Aideen's face as he made a move to put his arm around her playfully. He stopped when the dog looked up at him and growled in a warning, lips lifted in a snarl and everything. "Alright, Alright! Christ, I think Logan rubbed off on the dog too much," Mason said moving his arm away from her.
"Seriously though, it would be a blast. It's some place that you gotta visit and hell, I think I might have some friends still there. We can see more than just the strip. You guys down for it?" He looked around the table to steer the conversation further. He had no problem playing along to keep things natural and the attention off his friend. He wasn't stupid he knew something was up, but there was no point to focus their attention on it. Mason knew that Aideen was a private person, and it was pointless to try and get anything out of her.

"Well as I said, I would not mind given that it's at a good time. Despite my position in S.H.I.E.L.D. they are actually quite stingy about vacation days," Dylan said with a grim smile. "Las Vegas is actually a very interesting place. The casinos themselves have higher security than arguably most of the government buildings in the world. And despite my not understanding the thrill of strip clubs, they are apparently the most sanitary in the world too, though many also double as an, ahem, escort service." He thought about all he knew of Las Vegas as he recounted the facts.
"The Las Vegas underground is actually very impressive, as one of the largest black markets in the world runs through it, with everything from drugs to human trafficking to the dealing of body organs. Really quite fascinating, if you think about it. It is rather unsafe for a woman to leave the strip though, as anyone who disappears from Las Vegas has a 15% chance of being found," Dylan stated as he pushed his glasses up on his nose and remained ignorant to all the looks he might have been getting.
He went right on rambling happily along. "One of the world's most expensive hotel is located there as well, with the Presidential Suite going for $50,000 a night. I don't think it would be quite so worth it to stay..." It was now that he saw the looks on the others faces, which made him look down awkwardly. "There. Yea sorry again, I get carried away," he said sheepishly.

"Well, I am definitely in for that trip. I haven't used much vacation time at all yet this year and I would love it. How 'bout it babe?" Mike grinned at Lai and the thought of spending time with her away from the crazy city they lived in with all the drama associated with it softened his usual grin into something of a wistful romantic smile. Catching himself in it he glanced away to Mason and Aideen and raised his eyebrows up and down. "But the thing with Vegas there firebrand is ya want to just keep stayin. It's weird too because you look around and it's like you've been there before, even if you never have.. guess it's because it's been in so many movies and TV shows- I dunno." He shrugged as he took a sip of coffee.
"I know, I know you guys all think it's about the wine women and song with me, but you know what it is really? I mean aside from the fact that I can't loose on the one armed bandits.. well?" He looked around at them all "It's the lights. The whole place glitters like a diamond, or a snowflake in the light of a full moon. It's this man made oasis that never stops twinkling and when you step back and look at it all, I mean everything - the people the sounds the money the thing that really hits you is the lights."
He nodded his head as he thought about how the place shone like a beacon in the middle of nowhere, like some precious gem in the dessert. The look on his face must have been HIlarious or something or maybe it was what he had said, sharing a bit of himself like that, because he saw the looks on everybody else's face and it was looking like they were about to bust out laughing -AT HIM. "What? What's with the looks? Aww come on what now?" He should have known better after the last time he shared some bit of his heart with a group of her college friends there, he was sure Lai would remember that afternoon.

Lai couldn't take it anymore and burst out laughing, her body shaking in a fit of giggles at her oh so very special boyfriend. "Oh man, baby, leave it to you to like a place because it's shiny and bright," she said cracking up some more and leaning back against the counter to support herself while she laughed. Mike had his moments where she wanted to smash something in frustration, but times like this was just precious. His 'poetic moments' as she called them that he had every once in awhile were just hilarious. What's more is that Lai had no idea where they came from or when they would happen, but when they did it was just plain out hilarious. "Wooo wow baby, times like that I really remember why I stuck around after you were an hour late for hour second date and showed up wearing that 'Female Body Inspector' shirt to that classy Italian place," she said wiping the tears from her eyes.
"I end my semester sometime in the middle of May, so anytime after that would be sort of perfect. I'm going to need a break after the crazy finals and I'm not going back to France until the end of June, so it works out for me. I only went once for a weekend when my sister got married for a Bachelorette party thing. I had a blast though, I met a stripper named Mr. Big. My friend said it was only a stage name though," Lai added as an afterthought and smiled at the memory. That was a weekend to remember, but she knew that if they all went together it would probably top that weekend. "I'm in as long as its after finals and not before."
She walked to the side of Mike and leaned against his side, draping her arm around his neck so he could comfortable put an arm around her waste. "I don't get enough weekends out, and I would love to go back to Vegas. I need to go bikini shopping anyways so this would be the perfect excuse. Would we get there by plane or are we driving?" She looked around, not knowing what to expect. Driving there would probably take at least two days though, but that could be part of the adventure.

From below in the garage the sound of a Harley Davidson, a big V-Twin.. with straight pipes, heralded the return of Wolverine. He had returned the caddy to it's parking place just as the church was letting out it's second mass of the day. In the throng of people he slipped away without so much as an eyebrow being raised, a crisp Benjamin tucked into the ashtray to pay for gas, his own personal version of a tithing. His boots stomping their way up the stairs got the dogs stirred up into a fervor. Anxious for the return of the hairy man with the dominant aura, they were to their feet and rushing to the door. They could sense his energy, they knew him to be pack leader wherever he went. They wanted to be near him, yet they knew it was for him to say when. Fear stayed their attention, their feet slipping on the linoleum floor.. nails scratching and clicking as they did their anxious dance. As the door opened they froze, not knowing how to react. They were not alone..

It took a moment for Aideen to regain the ability to think straight again after they moved apart. Despite the fact that this happened whenever he touched her, it still surprised her every time. In truth, it had been like that from the beginning, no matter how much she tried to deny it. She hated to be touched by anyone. She never was the type that gave hugs or showed any type of physical affection to anyone simply because Aideen took it as emotion and was uncomfortable around it.
It had always been different with him, just from the fact that she hugged him on her own free will when they got back from Limbo. From that point on, every little touch sparked something, and those times when he pulled her into a hug made her sigh in contentment and unable to think of a better place to be. Even the fact that he pulled her into a kiss in front of others, something she would never initiate, still made her normally sharp and aware mind muddled in a mess of thoughts.
"Uh, um... Hi." Aideen blinked for a moment as her face turned a deep red when she realized that they were still in the kitchen in front of people they had known for barely a day. "We were just talking about a trip to um Las Vegas," she said catching her breath and looking up at Logan, a flustered smile coming across her face for a moment. "I've never been they were, um..." She took a pause and willed her face to turn back to normal color as she regained her composure so she could finish a thought let alone a sentence. "I only read about it in books. I don't watch TV and haven't seen many movies."
Moving away from Logan, she let him sit in her previously occupied chair, as there weren't anymore left. Aideen went and pour a mug of hot black coffee and made a plate of the odd concoction of cheese and eggs wrapped in bacon. "I would assume we take a plane, the trip there based on geographical distance from either of our locations would take at least three days given that we only stop to sleep," she stated as she arranged the plate, cheeks slightly flushed still in happiness, using words to take away the attention from them.
He told her he missed her, and then he kissed her without hesitation. The thrill had her fighting to hold back a smile in front of polite company. What am I doing? This isn't how it's supposed to be, it goes against what I learned. And just like that, she ruined her own moment of happiness through her mind inevitably reverting to it's logical progression. I'm acting like a fool, studies show that this would be a stake for security within the relationship. I can't keep forgetting all I learned. How does it make sense that I put all that time reading up on psychological case studies and all the theories so I wouldn't mess up this relationship, and not only did it falter, I'm falling into a common trap... or at least I should be.
Aideen sighed and straightened up as she brought the coffee and plate over to Logan and set it down in front of him. "The only problem with taking a plane will be that you," she looked over at Mason while picking up her cup of tea and half eaten carton of yogurt.
