Sure enough, in less than thirty minutes later, they arrived at the dirt road that took them to Pine Grove Animal Sanctuary, as the wooden sign that they past a minute ago informed them. "It looks like we have arrived!" he said as he turned into the dirt driveway. There were corrals full of horses, some with bandaging on them and some looking perfectly fine. There were several barns around as well, and just from what Piotr saw, he liked what he saw. The place looked well kept and very much in shape, even if it didn't look like the grandest of places.
"Alright everyone," Piotr said as he parked the car in front of the barn. "There is a sign for the office right there, please let us all stay together before we start to look at the animals." They all got out of the car, Piotr picking Jenny right up on his shoulder so she could have a better view of the horses from his height. They walked to the office to find a small stout older woman doing paper work. She stood up right away and greeted them. "Why hi there, how can I help ya'll today?" she asked them with a big smile, standing up right away. "Good Evening Miss. We read about your farm on a website, and we are interested in a getting a dog and a cat for a barn. We have horses, and will need animals that are good with children and with horses," he said, setting Jenny down.
"Of course, please follow me." The woman took the little group out back to a fenced in area, where a bunch of dogs of all sizes were sitting in fair sized kennels. "All those dogs right here, are trained barn dogs. You'll find their information on the little cards by their cage. Please feel free to look at them, I'll be right here if you have any questions."
Piotr nodded his thanks and looked at the kids around him. "Well, this is what you guys came here for, please go ahead and look around," he said to them and let them go and look at the dogs. He wanted this to be something that the kids would do for themselves and experience it fully, but he would oversee the whole thing and veto a fairly ridiculous choice, though he doubted it would happen.

"Oh wow, lookit em all." It was more 'wildlife' than k'8 had seen in one place since she'd been to the Philadelphia Zoo, and she remembered how that went. Trailing a little bit behind as the others went ahead she smiled weakly at Sean when he looked for her, not wanting him to know she was concerned. Moment of truth.. moment of truth.. don't sweat it, just relax. Things are different now
As she stepped forward she saw it happening again. The dogs who were nearest to her as she approached tucked their tails and began to skulk backwards not taking their eyes off of her even as they hung their heads low, while those that were further back from her began to pick up on what was happening and bared their teeth, low growls escaping them. Those furthest away though, brought to bear their self preservation and began to bark and snarl at the demon spawner, a spawn of the Devil Belasco she herself was.
"Heh, uh.. good boys? Uh.. nice doggies?" She shrugged at the gang from school and her eyes met with Sean's in a way that was pleading for help, and yet hopeful for understanding too. "I think, well um- I was afraid this might happen. I'm sorry. Animals know.. ya know yous guys? I didn't mean to make this tough on us, I can go and wait in the van."
She took a step back, slowly, since she really didn't want to leave. She wanted to be a normal girl at least with animals, but even they knew she was far from normal. The look of her was one of being totally crushed, her body language told the tale as her smile drooped and her shoulders slumped and the brightness of her demeanor paled into gray. "Sorry." She hesitated, eyes looking to her boyfriend, the gentleman cowboy, for him to ride in and save the day.. so to speak.

Sean smiled at Kate and put an arm around her to give her a side hug. "Don't you worry Katie girl, animals are a lot like people in the sense that it takes them awhile to warm up to others. It don't matter what kinda dog we get, they'll warm up to ya real quick, how can they not? He assured her and dropped a kiss on her forehead. They had literally gone through hell together, and though he was put off by her at first glance as well, he learned to see past that and see who she was on the inside. Sean didn't want her to get discouraged by animals, and found himself worrying about how the horses would react to her. He was confident that if he introduced her in the right way, they would be comfortable around her. Hopefully it would work out for the best though.
"Alright," Sean said and dropped his arm from Kate's shoulder. "Let's see what we got here..." He walked by the kennels, inspecting the dogs one by one. There were ones of many different breeds, and he had to smile when they ran up to the cage and jumped up to him as they walked by, though many were still skittish around them because of Kate. He really did miss the animals, and it was nice to be around them again, even though he knew that they would only be taking two of them home. "Alright let's see... this one can't be around cats, and that we can't have," Sean said reading off the little information cards that hung on the kennel. "And this one is real skittish, and well uh," he looked back at the others and shrugged sheepishly. "We can't really have that." Some of the dogs he had to bypass because they looked too old or injured to keep up with that school.
He stopped in front of a Bearded Collie, and read the little information on the guard. "This guy looks like a good fit. Whadda ya'll think?" Sean asked putting his hand to the kennel cage and watching the dog sniff his hand. "Liv? Jenny? What do you guys think about this one. We need a tough little dog that can deal with uh, our school environment." He looked at the lady standing nearby cautiously, knowing they'd have to keep a low profile as to who they were.

Whatever the deal was with k’8, it had distracted the dogs long enough for Liv to make it half way down the run before they bothered to notice her. The entire dog yard went suddenly silent, the only sound the wet, quivering inhalations of noses catching a scent. Liv flashed Colossus a bright smile on her way to see what Sean had found. “Here we go, big guy! Better earmuff. They tend to get really excited about me.” With a delighted laugh, Liv mimed covering her ears.
Three… two… one…
The raised voices of the two dozen furry kennel residents all sounded at once, kicking up a hell of a racket. Their excited growls, yips, and barks vied for Liv’s attention and she laughed again, pressing her hands against the wire links of each kennel as she passed them, introducing herself and listening to their greetings. Pink tongues and damp noses pressed through the grating eager to get at the girl that was a two-legger but not a two-legger at the same time. “Sorry, Sean… I’ll be right there.” There was no sarcastic tone, no edge to her voice at all. How could she possibly snark and quip when she was surrounded by such blind doggie devotion?
This is how it always was with dogs. Unlike with other animals that Liv had to approach first, those of the canine persuasion just seemed to know what she was and what she could do. The first animal that Liv had ever understood was her German Shepherd, Lothario, and the giant teddy bear of a dog had gone from her dad’s drug sniffing partner to her best friend overnight. Her deepest connections seemed to run to those that barked, no breeds excluded. They adored her and she couldn’t help but get swept up in all of that unconditional happiness. There was something about the unbridled enthusiasm that only a dog could offer that simply brought Liv down to their simplistic and cheerful level.
Tawny eyes intent on making the rounds, Liv passed k’8 and winked, slinging an arm around the younger girl’s shoulders. “Don’t worry. Dogs are real simple, k’8. It doesn’t take much to win them over and once you do, they’re loyal for life." The handful of dogs that were in her direct line of vision got a stern look before Liv beamed at k’8. “No sweat, Voorhees! Alright, Sean, whatcha got?” She made her way over to the kennel Sean was in front of and smiled at the shaggy dog inside. She didn’t bother looking at the display card. What was the point? There wasn’t anything on that card that Liv couldn’t find out by asking.
With a quick glance at the woman that was watching their every move, Liv knelt down and offered up her fingers to an eager dog. “Hey, buddy. You like horses?”
Like to bite’em! The dog’s excitement was unmistakable and Liv snorted. The bearded collie was still young, he’d mellow out soon enough, but in the mean time they couldn’t have him terrorizing the horses, trained or not. With a shake of her head, Liv looked up at Sean.
“Uh… next.” Liv looked over at Jenny and quirked an eyebrow. “Find something, short stack?”

Jenny was fascinated by all the dogs, trying her best to keep her excitement at bay. It made her mix her dog all the more, but it was still nice to be around so many other dogs. She let go of Pete's hand and walked forward to see all the dogs, trailing off behind Sean at first before walking ahead and studying all the dogs. Some looked really hyper and fun, but that wasn't exactly what Jenny was looking for either. In her mind, she wanted someone a little like Albert, but because it was just around horses the dog might have to be a bit more calmer.
Biting her lip and ignoring the big stupid girl that called her short, Jenny concentrated on the dogs. She put her little hand on the cages of some of them, watching with wide cornflower blue eyes how they reacted to her. One dog that looked like a sheltie mix seemed really happy to see her, and really hyper too. "He's funny, but horsethes can'ts be arounds a doggie thaths too hyper and alls," Jenny said thoughtfully moving on to the next dog. It was a mix of a dog but he had really shaggy hair and was really big. "Wow he looks like a wolf. He mights thscare the horseths more thoughs."
Her mouth screwed to the side as she looked at the dogs thoughtfully. She stopped in front of one of the cages at the front, which held a BIG collie. He had hair everywhere and looked at her so calmly. "Wow. This one looks justs like Lasthie," she exclaimed with her light lisp. Jenny put her hand on the cage and smiled as the dog came up to sniff her fingers and then licked them. "What abouts this one?" Jenny smiled at the calm nature of the dog and looked over at Liv and Sean with big wide eyes. "I thinks he would be goods."

It was impossible for Sean to keep the smile off his face when he looked at Jenny. She had these wide blue eyes that held such innocence and purity, and she concentrated on this little task that he knew many of the students would have scoffed at as if it was the most important decision ever. Looking at her often made a pang of homesickness as he thought of his little cousin from home, especially now as she studied everything with her big wide eyes.
"Well let's see here," Sean said, walking over to her. He put a hand on her shoulder and looked over at the little card at the dogs cage. "He's three years old, good tempered it says, and look apparently they keep him around the animals." He ruffled Jenny's hair and looked over at Liv. "What's your verdict Liv? Good choice or do we move on?" Sean smiled at her, really curious to see more of her power. She had a power that he always wanted, the ability to talk and communicate with animals.
Actually, Sean was excited just to be meeting her. He knew that when the horses came he would have a billion questions to ask her and would have to seriously try to not get so excited about it. It fascinated him that she could actually talk to them and find out so much about them in a way that he always dreamed about. All in all, he was eager to see her do it.

Liv looked up from the boarder collie that had been giving her a list of demands with wide eyes and an irritated expression. Seriously? She would rather run around the barn on all fours herself than take some prissy ass sheep-herder back to the school. “I don’t think you’re quite what we’re looking for but, uh… good luck with that.” Incredulous, Liv wandered over to Sean and Jenny, hoping that their search had been more successful. She didn’t miss the way some of the kennel residents slowly laid down and showed off their undersides as she passed, submissively baring their throats to her. Others were bouncing off the walls, barking happily for her attention and Liv cast a quick look at the proprietor. She hoped the woman wasn’t noticing the unusual behavior. All dogs got excited at visitors, right? Nothing out of the ordinary here…
“Whatcha got?”
The collie in question was hard at work licking at Jenny through the gate, his tail wagging a mile a minute. He paused momentarily when Liv knelt beside the others and nosed her fingers as she offered them against the guard. I love when two-legger pups visit. They like t’play and’re always covered in something delicious… He looked up at Liv with liquid, brown eyes. Are you here t’play, too? His ears perked up and his tail started going double time. Where’s your fangs?
Liv cracked up, subconsciously wagging a bit herself. “I don’t need fangs, buddy. I do alright without’em.” She kept her voice down to keep from being overheard and beamed at Sean and Jenny. “Listen, buddy, we’re looking for a strong, smart fella to watch the horses at our school. You know, keep’em from wandering off and keep anything nasty from getting in the barn.” Liv pressed her fingers through the gating and the collie sniffed at her happily. “Think you’re up to task?”
Horses are dumb, he stated simply. That’s why they trained us, to keep them safe.
Liv nodded her understanding, but she wasn’t so sure about that first part. Back home, she had been adopted into the small, motley herd that made up her family’s trail horses and aside from a rather ignorant gelding, the rest had been incredibly free-thinking and brilliant in their own way. There was something free and dignified about them, even when they were just kicking up grass and running around like loons. Horses weren’t going to get any MENSA invitations any time soon, but they weren’t dumb.
“You don’t bite them, do you?” The last thing any of them wanted was a dog at the school that was taking chunks out of the stock.
The collie barked out a laugh, holding up a paw. Horses are all hoof and teeth. Mean as snakes and a million times bigger. I don’t bite them. I keep them safe. I bet I’m good at it, too.
Liv smiled warmly at the collie and nudged Sean eagerly. “I think he’d be perfect, Sean. He likes kids, he doesn’t want to eat the horses, and he seems smart. k’8? Come take a look.” Liv hadn’t missed the way her fellow Jersey girl had hung back or the way the dogs seemed flat out terrified of her. Voice hardly above a whisper, Liv held the collie’s gaze, her expression stern. “She’s my friend,” she said quietly. “Be nice.”

"No- no thanks." At the sound of her voice the whole kennel erupted in snarls barks and howls. The protests of the hounds of Earth at the presence of Demon-Child made her jump. "It's okay really." She raised her voice over the cacophonous racket. "You's guys can, you know, go ahead and pick and stuff. I don't think it'd be a good idea to scare him before the poor guy even has a chance to make friends." She shrugged and then looked down slumping her shoulders at the thought of ruining the whole little day trip before it had even really begun. Her submissive posture seemed to lend itself to the quieting of the animals, yet they still were in a bit of an uproar when she looked up again to her friends a moment later.
Her eyes were pleading for understanding and forgiveness, from Sean most of all because he knew what was inside her. He had done his best to uplift her and give her the strength to step into it all, into the fullness of a life that she had been brave enough to claim for herself, but she couldn't find courage inside herself now. Her fear for who she was and was to become and the possibility that she might be drawn to becoming that again was too much for her to get beyond. The pain was just too real, it was too soon and she didn't know if time could erase the fear.
Her trust, and hope was in love.
Through love her fear was wiped clean, it was the only thing that made any bit of difference. It was the beacon in the darkness, a guiding light for her to trust, to walk through Hell to the home she'd chosen for herself and defy her destiny. A calm washed over her at the realization of it then and with her lip quivering slightly at the look he returned her, like he could see into her heart as if an open door was there for his eyes alone, she took the next step on her journey. It was a giant leap considering every animal in the place was spooked by her very presence.
Every animal, that is, except the big collie.
He merely knocked his head to the side and raised his doggie equivalent of an eyebrow to her cautious steps. She tried to block out the noises and eruptions of the rest of the dogs, as her movements brought them back to a state of frenzy in their cages. She glanced at Sean and in his eyes she saw the love and the confidence in her that she lacked in herself. She nodded to him slightly before looking back to the collie and focusing her eyes to stare into his. Okay k'8.. just keep calm, keep staring at this one.. he's not scared of you at all.. smile- NO! Don't smile, that might ruin it.. uh, maybe kneel down and let him sniff you? Yeah-
She made it to the cage and took a slow and easy bend to kneel before the animal, between the two girls who had been beaconing her to join them at the cage. She extended her hand, it shook slightly as she fought back the fear that he would snap at her at any second. She wanted to say hello, but she didn't think her voice would be of any help, so she kept silent and let him decide on smell, and that innate way animals had of reading a person's aura.

It really made Sean really sad how scared Kate was with all the animals. He knew it had to do with her blood more than who she was, cause she was a great person. "Come on Katie girl, it'll be alright," he said encouraging her. He looked over at Liv with a concerned look on his face. "You sure this is safe right?" Sean only loosened his grip on Kate's shoulder when he saw Liv nod her head before whispering something to the dog. "It's alright Katie girl, I think this one is a bit better at getting the real sense of someone than these others are," he said to her reassuringly, both for her benefit and his own.
He stood back and watched as the dog sniffed Kate's hand, both cautiously and curiously at the same time. It seemed like the longest moment of his life watching the dog investigate her scent until he finally sat down and wagged his tail, happy as ever. Sean let out a long breath that he didn't realize he had been holding. "Well, that was certainly exciting. I guess," he looked back at the name card and smiled at the name. "Chief here is one good judge of character." His hand went to ruffle Jenny's hair, beaming down at her. "You sure can pick 'em Jenny. Great job!"
Sean waved over Colossus over with the lady and pointed proudly at the big collie. "This fella here is the one. He's everything we need, and on top of all that he's a friendly guy," he said and stood back as the lady and Colossus talked it over about price and all that. He moved to the side as the lady opened the kennel and put the collie on a leash, handing it to Liv. Sean smiled widely as he watched Chief bound right to Jenny. "Well, looks like one down, one to go," he said reaching down to pat Chief's back lightly.

It took a couple of minutes for Piotr to negotiate with the woman about the price of the dog. Because it was an animal rescue, they would only have to pay for the veterinary bill and buy the place two bags of dog food in exchange. "Before we get to the paperwork, we also need a barn cat. Specifically one that is a good mouser, if you please," he asked politely. The woman had been polite the whole time, and she still was thought she kept looking at the kids suspiciously. Piotr hoped that she didn't have an Anti-mutant mindset, but he couldn't let on that anything was wrong to the kids.
Before the arrived, he told them specifically that they had to be very careful because they didn't know what kind of people were running the place. They always had to be careful when they were out in the real world, but because they would be directly interacting with people they'd have to take some extra precautions. He hoped that they would remember to be very careful with their image, though he entertained the idea of passing K'8 the paperwork for the dog, Chief so she wouldn't get hurt by one of the cats. Cats tended to be more vicious than dogs, so he wanted to be especially careful around them.
The lady brought them, and the dog, to the other side of the farm. "Now the cats, well we don't like to keep them in kennels so much as they like to roam around. This barn here, is were we keep them," the woman said leading them to the barn. Piotr stopped and looked over at K'8 with concern in his eyes about being around animals without the barrier of a cage. "Ah K'8," Piotr said holding her back as the kids followed the woman into the barn. "Perhaps it would be best in this case if you go with the woman to fill out the paperwork? I know you know all the details, and it is my responsibility to see that you do not get hurt." He gave her a grim smile and put a hand on her shoulder. "It may be for the best," he said softly and handed her the papers the woman gave him.
As the kids went over inside the barn to look at the numerous amounts of cats, Piotr called the lady over. "I will watch the kids, but Kate here, she can help you with all the paperwork. She knows the information well," he said winking at K'8 and handing him the papers he picked up from Emma that did in fact contain all the necessary information. "I will look over them when you are done yes?" Piotr said before walking off to watch the kids pick out a barn cat for the school. It was indeed wonderful to see them so excited.

"Oh WOWS!" Jenny exclaimed with wide eyes as she looked at all cats roaming around the barn. She liked cats almost as much as she liked dogs, and loved to cuddle with them. She almost wished that she could bring another one back with her, but Ms. Frost would get mad and she didn't thing that it would be a good idea with the wolf twins in the house.
She ran off from Chief and Sean into the barn, going right for the small gray cat that sat on a hay bail. "Hey there Little Kitty. What's yours name?" Jenny cooed and held out her little hand for the cat to rub against her hand. Carefully, she picked him up and cuddled him to her. "Wow look ats alls these cats!" A bunch more cats started coming around her and rubbing up against her. Jenny smiled as she leaned down to pet the cats by her legs while settling the gray kitty on her lap. "Which one cans we have?" Her eyes looked at the big kids with excitement.

"Stay away from the Russian blues, short stack. They're pretty and they're nice, but they're lazy." Liv pointed to the gray cat that was purring for more of Jenny's attention and shook her head. "Your best bet is a tabby. Maybe a tortoise shell... the ones with the black and brown on'em." She gestured toward the lean cat winding through Jenny's legs.
Liv glanced back to make sure that the lady in charge was occupied with k'8 before she looked down at the swarm of cats that were rubbing around her feet and trying to climb up her legs. "Ok, ok, I see you. Gahhh!" Trying to back away didn't work out for her and Liv took a header, landing on her rear with a heavy THUMP. She wasn't sure why, but cats didn't listen to her the way other animals did. Oh, they understood her just fine, she knew that, but they tended to just stare at her like she was stupid.
Purring contentedly, a few of the cats settled in her lap, one particularly vocal tortoise shell with white ears draping itself over her shoulder. "Watch the claws, dude." Liv rubbed the cat under the chin and he swiped playfully at her hand.
Gonna getcha! she told Liv happily. Good hunter, I am! Eat mousies. Furry prey. YUM!
Liv laughed and plucked the cat off her shoulder. She was smallish, with patches of black and brown over her white body. Her huge ears moved constantly and Liv gave a small nod of approval. She was a little hunter. "Can you get along with our horses?" Liv asked, seriously. "And the students that will be in and out of the barn?"
Like all its kind, the little cat gave Liv a look that could have peeled paint. Two-leggers give good tummy rubs. I eats the mousies and get tummy rubs!
"Sean? Jenny? Whatcha think of this little girl here? She's enthusiastic, I'll give her that."

And as the rest of them went into the barn...
k'8 stood there, papers in hand, watching as the door shut and she was left out. "Come along young lady." The woman's voice called out from a few paces behind her. Yea, yea, I'm comin. Just how come I had to be the cursed one? At least now I know I'm not allergic like Grams always said, and I know why we never had pets too. She bit the inside of her cheek as she thought about all the lies they must have had to tell her to give her some semblance of a normal life.
Spinning on her heels she took a deep breath and pasted a half smile on her face for good measure. The lady didn't need to know that she was feeling down, or why Colossus insisted that she go to take care of things. "I'm coming ma'am" she said as she started to trot hastily after her. "Thanks for letting us look by the way. I know it's kinda late and all, but we" she glanced back over her shoulder at the barn "well uh, they know what they're looking for. Me? I'm, good with the details, so I guess that's why I get to handle the paperwork." She raised her eyebrows and pursed her lips, hopeful the woman would buy it.
"Oh yes, that" the lady said as she reached to open the door to her office, a trailer set on the farm for the administrative details, "and you have an unusual presence about you. The dogs could tell it almost immediately you know. Come in." She said as she stepped up the two steps and walked into the single wide mobile home looking structure.
"Oh, yeah- you noticed that!?!" Katie said only slightly surprised. More of an act really to try and make it seem as if she hadn't noticed how the dogs had reacted to her. "I noticed it too, that was weird huh?" She pulled a face and tried to blow it off shaking her head. "So it said on the website that we only needed to pay for the vet fees, or rather uh, 'donate' and um, donate the cost of two bags of food too. So there's like some kind of paperwork to fill out I guess? Cause I can do that with you." Since it's soooo much fun- thanks Pete- pffft

There were just so many cats, more than Sean had probably ever seen in one place. They all looked healthy and well fed though, so that was definitely a good sign. Looking around though, he saw some cats that reminded him why this place was an animal rescue. There were cats that had only one eye, some with scratches on their bodies and he even saw a few lying down with broken limbs. The smile on his face fell as he looked at them, something twisting inside his gut at the thought that someone could hurt these animals, or any animals for that matter. Sean grew up around animals on the farm, and he couldn't imagine why anyone would want to hurt them for any reason.
Sean reached down and gently picked up an orange tabby with only one eye that was staring at him looking so sad and yearning for love so badly. He brought the cat close to him, smiling softly when the cat nuzzled his chest and snuggled against him. "Ya know, I seen some real bad things, but I don't think I'll ever understand how someone could hurt them," he said stroking the cat's soft fur. The scratched out eye wasn't done by another animal, it was too precise to be done by anyone other than a human. How someone could do this he didn't know.
For a moment, Sean was lost in thought as he tried to think about a cat at the school. He would see to it that the animals weren't harmed by anyone, and there were those in the school that would harm them. Glancing at the little kitty that Liv held, he found himself worried that a sweet thing like that couldn't handle it with all the chaos and the potential danger. "I believe you Liv, but we gotta think about what cat can handle it there. One that knows danger when they see it and is crafty enough to be able to survive at the school. While she's a sweet thing, I'm worried for her there." Sean held the cat closely to his chest as it purred contently, making a sweet mewling noise once in awhile while Sean looked around the barn.
On the top of one of the higher beams sat a short haired dark brown cat, staring at them intently with enormous green eyes while swishing it's tail. It was one of the few cats that didn't come right up to them, but instead chose to study the group from a distance. Sean looked at it thoughtfully for a moment, studying the cat just as it studied them. "Hey Liv what about that one up there? Find out if they're qualified or not please," he said using his head to indicate to the cat in mind as he snuggled to him, giving the little thing the bit of love he really could.

Liv glanced up from under the pile of cats and smirked at Sean. "Remind me to abuse your power when it's convenient," she said lightly, shaking the cats off her person. "Off, you lot. Knock it! I'm not a scratch pad." They scattered with twitching tails and amused chuckles and Liv got back to her feet, smacking her yoga pants free of straw and cat hair. With a small bit of foreboding, Liv looked upward to where Sean had indicated and quirked an eyebrow.
Please, PLEASE talk to me, Liv prayed. While they didn't seem to have a problem clawing the crap out of her, cats didn't always want to converse when she asked. They tended to stare silently. It gave Liv the creeps. "Hey, kitty-kitty,"
The Havana brown barely glanced down from her perch, her tail flicking lazily. Hey, dummy dummy. Her ears twitched forward, alert, and her eyes darted between the three kids and Piotr. Liv doubted there was much that happened inside the barn that the Havana didn't see. Whatcha want?
Liv bared her teeth without realizing it, a low warning sound coming from her deep in her throat. "We need a mouser for the horse stalls at our school, but one that can handle it, read me? It's not going to be easy or quiet. We need a cat up for the challenge." There was a goading tone in Liv's dual voices and the Havana's eyes fixed on her with cold intensity.
You doubt Moxie? I am the mouser. Yous and your funny two-leggers don't scare me. Yous need me to guard and protect. Nunya have sharp, claws or long whiskers, or even soft paws to sneak with. The cat glared and Liv snorted at the cat's condescension. This was why she hated cats. They were total snots, purposefully distant and annoying. You need Moxie.
With a sigh, Liv looked down at the sweet little tortoiseshell again. Sean was right. She just wasn't hard enough to be suitable for the Academy. Moxie however...
"Well, so long as you don't mind being inferior to our barn cat, I think you're right, Sean. Moxie means business... Are you coming down or not?" Liv looked up at the cat and scowled.
Moxie just started to lick herself.
