"Alrighty," said Heather as she placed her own books on the table. She turned around to face Johnny and gestured her hand towards the seat next to her. "Have a seat and get ready to study." Heather and studying were two words that usually went together. However she wasn't as bad as Ivy. The thing about Heather was that she was a fast learner and was always determined to do well in anything she tried. Of course she was decent in Math and liked Science. But she mastered English and History.
Taking her seat, Heather flipped open her textbook and her three ring binder. "Ok so how about we work on the assignment Kitty gave us?" she asked. "I usually like to get them out of the way first thing since that means we have no homework over the weekend right?" She smiled and turned to the appropriate page in the Technology textbook about polygraphs, making sure to observe Johnny and see how he was dong during the session. She didn't really believe in treating him like a student since he wasn't. She was just a peer helping him out. And if things went well, Heather thought that Johnny could be a potential friend and that made her happy. He seemed like a really nice guy and one could never have enough friends.

After what was a pretty good lunch, the last thing that Johnny had really wanted to do was 'hit the books' so to speak, but he knew that he had to and he didn't want to seem ungrateful to Heather, who really have been nice to him. So reluctantly, he took out his notebook and began to write the reflection paper on his observations of the lie detector and how he couldn't beat it, but Roman's mind was too focused on the girls and he barely heard half the questions he answered. He didn't write all that far, but he had poor sentence structure and his spelling, though it wasn't horrible like it once was, it could have been much better. His grammar was slightly off as well, but his sentence structure was excellent, as was the case with most people that had any form of dyslexia.
Johnny concentrated on the paper and stared down at the little more than half page filled with slight confusion. "Uh.. well this is what I got so far, I can't really think of what else to write," he said quietly and handed Heather the paper to check over as he watched her look it over. He was a bit anxious and still nervous, since he had never worked with someone his age tutoring him, and really someone as pretty and nice as Heather. He already felt kind of foolish that he needed a tutor to begin with and partly wished that Emma Frost would have just let him stay dropped out and instead work as a janitor or some odd jobs around the house.

Heather was close to finishing her own observation paper and allowed Johnny to do his own work at his own pace. She wanted to start understanding how he did his schoolwork and then continue from there. Once he finished and passed over his paper for her to look it over, Heather could see why the Headmistress asked her for help. However, knowing the reasons why, Heather wasn't shocked or stressed about Johnny's work at all. She even giggled when she read over the part about Romon. "I like this," she said while pointing to that part. "Kitty always likes humor." Heather smiled, giving Johnny as much positive feedback as she could.
"You basically did the assignment so good," she continued. "Now let's just work on your spelling and grammar." She smiled again, edging her chair closer to his so he could look on. She used a blue pen so he could see exactly what she was correcting and learn from there. She understood that he wouldn't get it right away but that was alright. One thing that she was gifted with, was a lot of patience and she didn't mind working with him and getting to know him. Johnny was a bit on the quiet side, but Heather didn't mind that one bit. She wasn't in the mood to be around someone who just couldn't shut up, or who was loud and annoying. Johnny was a huge breath of fresh air for the New Mutant and she was more than thankful in the distraction.
After going over his paper, Heather placed it on the table. "So here is the correct way to spell these," she said while pointing out each word. "And I get that grammar isn't your strong suit but that's alright. We'll work on it. See how I reworded what you said here to make it flow better?" She pointed out the sentence and looked at Johnny. "That's a better way of saying it you know?" She bit her bottom lip, scratching an itch that she had and then gave him a small smile. Heather didn't want to make Johnny feel like he was stupid or anything of the like. The guy was clearly a good person and definitely had a brain. It just didn't work as commonly as others.

Johnny watched intently as Heather went over his work and pointed out his mistakes with grammar and the spelling. It wasn't that he didn't get it, but he just recently with the help of his grandfather and the Church managed to get a good grip on what it meant to be dyslexic and how to work through it. The one problem with all that was that he had yet to put it into practice through his school work, since he had dropped out of school at that point because of his grandfather's declining health. Now he had to get past his reading problem and learn to study and attend school the proper way.
"Alright, thank you," Johnny said taking back the paper and reading over the little notes that Heather wrote for him and the corrections she made. "I'll rewrite it after. Um- Ms. Frost told me that you'd help me get caught up with History and English, which aren't my strong suits. I just learned how to read properly not all that long ago, so those subjects aren't my favorite." He shrugged slightly and gave a half smile as he took out some of the lecture outlines that Ms. Frost gave him and handed them to Heather.
