NAME: Amélie Anneliese Bichsel-Allenbach
AGE: 16
POWER: Controlling and communicating with insects
...................................
DESCRIPTION: Standing at 5'8", Amélie is taller than most. Even with her tall stature she is thin to point of being anemic, having to take several different pills everyday so she can maintain her body weight and keep from falling ill. Her skin is a light fawn color with a paler scar running across the palm of her left hand from an apple peeling accident. As a long distance runner her legs are well developed though not overly muscular. Her waist and arms are firm but lack the strength and definition of her legs.
Loose honey blonde waves frame a slender face and fall just below her waist. A small blue butterfly clip, no more than an inch long, holds the left side of her hair away from her face. Wide, expressive indigo eyes always seem to betray Amélie's thoughts while full heart-shaped lips form an easy smile. Two piercings adorn the cartilage of her left ear, often switching between studs and small hoops.
Originally from Zurich, Switzerland, Amélie always dresses for cooler weather regardless of how warm it may get. In accordance with her informal demeanor her clothing style always casual, even when dressing up. Her usual clothing is of a pair of faded jeans that have ripped over the knee after years of wear, a baggy sweater and loose sneakers. Her shirts are always boldly colored to offset her neutral appearance and bring out her eyes. During her runs, however, athletic shorts, a sports bra and running shoes are her clothing articles of choice. Her typical formal attire consists of a pair of dark jeans and a button up shirt with an oversized sweater vest. Her shirts tend to be white or light pastel colors while the vests are bolder and more eye catching.
No matter what she is wearing though she always has a German to English handbook on her.

PERSONALITY: As an only child, Amélie grew up with more attention than she could ever wish for. Though she was given every chance to experience her childhood, she preferred to stay close to one of her parents at all times which led to her inheriting their serious personalities. Amélie was good natured from birth which caused her to be overly trusting of people and taken advantage of as a child. Because of that fact she has receded into herself and become wary to the point of being distrustful.
She is not overly friendly and actually has very few close friends. Always reserved when meeting new people, she comes across as antisocial at the best of times. Despite that fact, she is quick to laugh. Gifted with a good sense of humor and a relaxed air around her, people tend to flock to her like moths to a flame. Oblivious to this fact, she tends to panic whenever someone invades her personal space. However, once she opens up and manages to make friends with somebody she is never seen too far away from them.
Due to her serious and reserved nature Amélie prefers to take part in quiet activities like reading and gardening. With all her free time as a child she has read books on almost every topic imaginable from flowers and baking to mechanics and bioengineering. That being said, running has and always will be her favorite hobby and she will run whenever she has spare time. When out with friends, though, she will do whatever they want to which has given her a wide variety of interests over the years such as snowboarding, cooking and being a recreational escape artist (though if you ask her about it she'll deny it. Something about accidentally drowning a spider) There are some things that Amélie will never do no matter how much people beg such as skydiving or tree climbing. She cannot stand exterminators or rats. An intense fear of heights has plagued her since childhood as has an allergy to shellfish.
Living in Zurich her entire life, she grew up speaking German and upon entering the Xavier Institute for High Learning had to learn English rather quickly. She is easily embarrassed about the many mistakes she makes while speaking and becomes distraught when she doesn't know what someone says. Often mixing up words by accident in her confusion, what she says ends up being wrong or unintelligible but she is too shy to ask for a tutor.

THE EVENTS OF MY POWERS EMERGENCE: Amélie discovered her ability at the age of 14 by complete accident. She had been sitting in the small garden behind her house taking a snack break when a few ants crawled up her hand. She brushed them off and moved over to avoid being crawled on again. After thinking for a moment she figured they must have wanted part of her snack so she broke off a piece of cookie and placed it down on the ground for them before getting up and going inside.
Later, when everyone in her house had gone to bed, Amélie was sitting under her window reading a book at her desk. She had felt a crawling sensation on her leg and absently brushed at it. When the feeling started up again she finally looked down to see a small spider making it's way up her leg. Letting out a quiet yell, she quickly brushed the spider off and fell to the floor before scrambling to the far side of the room.
After taking several deep breaths she stood and made her way over to the light switch before flipping it on. When she did she could only let out a strangled cry. There were several spiders on the floor and a thick swarm of ants made it's way from the window.
She reached desperately behind her for the door, daring not to take her eyes off the insects, her hand touching something coarse and hairy. Whipping around in fear, she tripped and landed on the floor while staring directly at a large tarantula perched on the doorknob. Looking around frantically for another way out, Amélie realized she was trapped by creepy crawly things out of her worst nightmares.
She had brought her knees to her chest just as nearly silent choked sobs came from her throat. She closed her eyes and began crying, rocking back and forth softly, going that it was just a dream. She could practically feel them getting closer until something touched her foot. Instinctively she kicked it away, backing up and yelling at the thing not to come any closer.
To her amazement, it didn't. In fact, as she looked around wildly, none of them did. They simply stayed where they were, watching her. As seconds turned to minutes, Amélie finally mustered up the courage to whisper for them to get away.
When all the insects started to back up her jaw fell open and her mind went blank. In the complete silence that followed eventually a quiet hissing sound could be heard. None of the insects moved a muscle but the sound persisted. It grew louder and louder until it completely filled the room, rasping words and voices overlapping and interrupting each other.
As the fear began to overtake her again, everything clicked into place when one sentence began to echo over and over again: She hears us. She finally understood what all of this meant; she was a mutant. She was a freak.
Several years went by and eventually she managed to tell her parents, who were less than enthused to know just how many bugs were in their house. But nonetheless they accepted it as part of who their daughter was and finally consented to send their daughter to the Xavier Institute so she could better learn how to control her powers.
