"You know, the origins of Thai iced tea are really very interesting. Originally people drank the tea hot plainly black. Then it was considered a rich dessert when served tea with condensed milk and sugar. The orange color to the tea didn't come in until they added orange blossom water, star anise, crushed tamarind seed that made it the light orange we know today. It became a tradition to drink it hot in the morning and then cold in the afternoon and the evening," Dylan said not looking up from the menu as his arm went around Ingrid, his long thin fingers skimming the bare skin of her arm gently. "I think I'll have one too. I wonder if you can get it in those pitchers like you do at restaurants? Probably not but I wouldn't mind that."
He sneaked a peek at Ingrid's neck, an approving smile as he saw that there were no longer ugly swollen bruises. Kissing her head, he looked squeezed the soft skin on her arm lightly to reassure her. "I think I'll actually go with the Beef Siam. I might as well, I don't eat Thai very often. I had it maybe only twice and that's when I was with Ingrid on one of her big parties where she gets to show off her awkward boyfriend and I have to sit and watch while every guy she passes drools over her." Dylan laughed slightly and brought her closer.
"I'll say this though, we managed to have some of the most expensive and quality wines available, and Mason you didn't have to pay a single cent." He picked up his own wine glass of the stuff in the cabinet and enhanced his taste buds before taking a sip. His shoulders stiffened up in the slightly grimace as he rolled the liquid around in his mouth. "This one is... well I had worse. Let me guess 2005? It still tastes very young." Dylan shrugged and set the menu aside. "That's alright. Hey did we all order yet? You know its actually convenient we can order food in a city, I personally don't want to move at the moment with all the excitement for tonight and the fact that despite that these couches are obviously old, they are incredibly comfortable."

The soft of her smooth skin felt wonderful to his fingertips and his lips hadn't stopped kissing hers once they found them. His nostrils flared inhaling her scent and the way she sat nuzzling and adorable like some kind of kitten who was lost no longer melted his heart. He didn't care what they ate, in fact he was not thinking of food at that particular moment, but not wanting to give anyone a reason to smart off he slowed his passion.
Placing his forehead against hers and looking with a grin into her eyes. Her hair gave them shelter from the gawkers, and in the close space of it's confines a look was shared, one of love and lust mixed with a hushed secrecy. He knew they all knew what they were doing behind that veil of hair, but he would never let on what it was and none had seen a glimpse, hearing though was another matter and his warm soft grumbles and the silent as he could sucking of lips was a telltale sign of kissing. A slight nod of his head and a raise of his eyebrow to ask her 'Shall we join them, or stay in our little world here?' without uttering a word was all the pause he took.
He could hear her heartbeat and in comparison to the way it had been beating with some distinct anxiety down in the garage he was pleased. She was still clinging onto something though and in mixed company he would never question her. She was far too private a person and he was far to protective a man to toss his lady's business out on the table for all to pick through. "Spicy Pad Thai, right Angel Eyes - ya want shrimp or maybe some chicken in it? I could go for some spicy shrimp Pad Thai myself.." he whispered and then smacked his lips and smirked "..no ohh I know." His eyes sparkled with a memory "It's been an age since I had some Rendang, they gotta have Rendang- Lamb Rendang.. reaal spicy," he whispered still as if recounting a dish he had favored in another life "ya ever have it?"

"I think I'll stick to the beers thanks Dylan," Lai said with a wink and leaned over Tracy's shoulder to look over the menu since Mike was doing that thing where he holds the menu really high up and jerks it around so much that Lai could barely read anything on it. "Hmm... I want the Pad Thai too actually, but with beef and not so spicy. I like my meat but I got enough spiciness about me thank you very much." She winked at Tracy and giggled as she looked over the menu again. "I may be a beer girl but I do want to try some of that Thai Iced tea. That sounds delicious. And I want to try some of the calamari and Jade Dumplings," Lai added as an afterthought as she studied the menu some more.
"Don't worry about it Ingrid, I actually think this is just as nice if not better. Way more private, but just as nice. Hey look we can even have music!" She stood up and grabbed the TV remote and flipped on the channel. She searched for the swing music channel and the sound of Glen Miller filled the air. "There you go, now we got the music too, and this is some quality sound to." Lai started bouncing around to the beat of the swing music, not all that skilled at dancing at all but just having fun with it. "Come on Ingrid, dance with me!" Lai laughed and grabbed Ingrid's hand, and with the dogs jumping around them she imitated that dancing from the 50s movie they watched together.
"Okay let's try a spin!" Lai spun Ingrid around who in turn sprung her around and let her go, making her spin right into Mike landing across his lap with a laugh. "See that Mike? Ingrid plays the man better than you in a dance. The Global Sweetheart that's been on what now, like 95 worldwide magazine covers and on the Top Ten Hottest women in the world, is better at dancing taking the man's role in dancing than you are," she said giggling as her back rested against the armrest of the couch and her legs were across his lap. "You oughta feel real proud baby." She patted his cheek teasingly with a big grin. Her eyes shifted for a minute to Logan and Aideen with their faces hidden by a thick curtain of hair. "Dammnn," she said under her breath and watched as Aideen brought her knees up and Logan's hands moving on her legs and back. "Ice queen no more, I think she melted!" Lai said softly under her breath to Mike and giggled. "Put in the order already will yah Mason? I can only say so much that I'm starved!"

"Mmm no," Aideen whispered kissing the corner of his lips slowly, feeling incredibly content at the moment with the two of them shielded by a curtain of her thick hair. "I do like things extra hot though, even if it is red meat." A slight smirk was on her face now, her hands cupping the back of his neck, savoring this relaxed moment, compared to the tense one they shared in the garage, one that left them both unhappy with the ending. "Does this mean I'm forgiven for pushing you away?" Her soft quiet question was answered from the way he gripped the warm bare skin of her hip that laid exposed between the cut of her leotard and the waistband of her lounge pants and the grumbly kiss that came right after. "Good," she mumbled quietly, nuzzling the coarse hairs on his face with her nose gently and sighing as he killed the loneliness in her for the time being.
With great reluctance, she agonizingly pulled away to return to the others in the room, tossing her hair behind her. Aideen pushed her hair out of her face and smiled softly down at him, her fingers gently moving across his face as she pulled away. For the moment, she no longer felt so empty, her mind focusing on the new things that happened with her heart and mind whenever she was near him. The look in her eyes held promise to finish what was started later when in private and not relying on her hair as the key to their privacy. She turned around in his lap to sit on his other leg carefully so his hand would remain on her hip but this way they could actually face the others.
Ignoring any looks that might have come their way, Aideen looked at Mason who was fiddling with his phone and starting to look impatient. "Ask for the extra spicy Shrimp Pad Thai for me, and the Lamb Rendang for Logan," she said softly, crossing her legs and settling against him. She looked at the TV, smirking at the station. "Nice choice of music," she added turning to look at Lai. It was the first time she really looked at anyone in the room, and it made her do a double take when she saw Mike. He was wearing James old clothes, and not just any clothes, his favorite outfit. She paled instantly like she saw a ghost, her skin going at least two shades lighter than the normal caramel tan color while her whole body stiffened and tensed. It was like all those ghosts that she had been keeping at bay came rushing back in, and for a minute she could have sworn it was James sitting there with a wicked grin on his face.
Her dark eyes blinked for a minute as she tried to calm down, tried to desperately bring back the state of mind she was in just a moment ago, but it was useless. Aideen took a breath and forced herself to go back to the casual and aloof state her mind went into on defensive. "I um... I'm going to get a drink, pardon me. Mason order the food," she said in a cool voice and got up from the warm position on Logan's lap and walked around the dogs to the kitchen. She grabbed the Indian Ale she got earlier that day and opened the freezer to take out the vodka. Leaning against the counter and out of sight from everyone in the living room, she poured the vodka in a tall glass and swung her head back to deplete the drink. She needed to compose herself before she went back, and most of all she needed a minute to fight off the feeling in the garage. It was like the reminder of all she lost slapped her in the face for a moment, and though Mike didn't look all that much like James, the traits they did share were enough to have rattled her. When she finished the glass, she poured the remainder of the bottle into the glass again, closing her eyes as she forced herself to concentrate on the freezing liquid that scalded its way into her stomach instead of the spirits of her past that seemed to surround her again.

Mason's eyes followed Aideen as she left the room, completely dumbfounded as to what caused the sudden and drastic change in her demeanor, and from the looks of everyone around the room, he saw that he wasn't the only one. "Uhhh..." He looked in her direction again and then at the others. "What just happened?" he asked in a low voice. Quite honestly, had it been any other chick except maybe for Tracy, he would just think an almost typical thought that it was that time of the month or they were having another mood swing or something, like Reyes had every once in a while. But Aideen never had mood swings like that. She was either indifferent or relaxed, every once in awhile annoyed as well, but it always went with the flow with her, never random.
"I uhh... guess I'll order then," Mason said looking around suspiciously for a minute, glancing at Tracy questioningly. He wondered what was up, but also knew that the last thing that the firebender wanted was everyone to rush over and asked what happened, or even one person for that matter. She was one of his closest friends, but she was a closed book on everything from her emotions to her life, and at this point he knew better than to bug her when she went into that cold indifferent state she was in now. He got her enough to know that now was not the time for him to get curious with her.
"Yea hi I wanna place an order. No delivery. Delivery!" he growled into the phone when they made him repeat himself. He gave the address as clearly as he could and told them to ring the third floor doorbell, since that one was only for the apartment and not the garage. "No the third floor. As in first, second, third!" Mason realized why he never ordered out much, the god damn people never got what you said right the first time. "Okay, gimme the Bamboo Beef, Mango Shrimp... no the SHRIMP not the beef... yea and also lemme get..." He spent a good while on the phone, repeating the order several times over to make sure they got it right, once in awhile his eyes moving to the direction of the kitchen.

Ingrid looked between Dylan and the rest of them. She had no idea what just happened really, and how Aideen went from looking incredibly content with a man who quite honestly frightened her a little, to having that moment of pure terror on her face and paling drastically. It actually made a little pang go in her heart at that. In the room when they were talking, Ingrid had watched her carefully, and somehow got a distinct feeling that she hardly opened up to anyone. The Swedish model was no stranger to the pain and hurt that came with life, and earlier when they talked, at least in her eyes, a connection formed between them. From the way that Aideen spoke of that Brock guy from the school, and the expression that changed in her incredibly dark eyes when speaking of him, Ingrid just got the feeling she got it much rougher with that horrid sounding man than she let on.
"I do not know what happened either, but I suppose after tonight, we are all rattled a little," she said with a slight smile at everyone. "I know I will probably never go into a restaurant again without a bodyguard." She stopped talking for a minute and giggled as she heard Mason on the phone getting frustrated. "Oh I am sorry, but that is very funny. I have seen Dylan get the same way on the phone whenever we order from our favorite Chinese place. It never gets tiring." Ingrid was doing her best to charm the distraction away from the pretty exotic. It may have been because it was so hard to find someone to understand her, and well, in truth Ingrid didn't have many friends or people that she had any kind of connection with since she became famous. Being acquainted with a famous person tended to bring out the most fake part of most people, where they didn't care as her so much as they did for her fame. It was very lonely for her, that was perhaps why she fell so hard for Dylan. When he looked at her he didn't see the Global Sweetheart, he saw her as Ingrid Grabar, the girl who had a habit of dancing around in her underwear and loved to take silly pictures and experiment with making new and interesting sandwiches. It was a rare blessing for her to get people that accept her for her, and she liked to hold on to those who didn't get star struck around her.
"Lai.." she said in a warning voice she rarely ever used to her friend who was making the crazy sign with her fingers to Mike after Aideen left, trying to do it discreetly and failed. Ingrid gave her a slight glare and then a smile came on her face when the song changed. "Oh no. Do you hear this Dylan?" she said with a grin as she could practically hear the groan on his face. "Oh this is my FAVORITE song." Nat King Cole's L-O-V-E started playing and it was a perfect excuse for Ingrid to try and lighten the mood and bring the attention of the girl that helped her more than she thought possible. "L, is for the way you look at me," she started singing with a laugh as all her friend knew this was her favorite song. "O is for the only one I see..." She was giggling at the look on Dylan's face as she sang the song.

Tracy was thrilled that everyone was happy and getting relaxed after the ordeal at the restaurant, and then the other shoe dropped. It was like they collectively got punched square in the gut and she could feel all that was being felt by all of them. This compounding of similar emotions was akin to a quadruple espresso with an extra shot or two of espresso and then poured on top of it all was Aideen's own mix of shock and sorrow. The memories she must have had flood into her right then were overwhelming and definitely unexpected, to that Tracy could attest.
Literally shaking at the onslaught of what she was feeling, the rawness of everyone in the room's emotions, she tried to stand. He knees left her for Madagascar and she flopped back down on her seat. She didn't make a big show or anything of it and she did her best to play it off as Mason made his phone call and Ingrid did her part to lighten everyone's mood. It truly helped and Tracy felt the black cloud begin to dissipate, enough so that she was able to stand. Stroking her hand softly up Mason's neck to touch his ear and rub it gently between her petal soft fingertips, she glanced over to Ember and back, letting him know she was going to have a word.
Stepping into the more subdued light of the kitchenette, the single bulb from over the stove the only illumination, Tracy could feel from Aideen that the initial shock had passed. Thinking back to it she understood it as a fear of a sort, like she had seen a ghost or been stuck in a deja-vu from which she couldn't escape and then in an instant it changed. Morphing from momentary relief to instant appalled rage and all at once disappointment and right then.. at that very split second.. was when the real deep seeded anger kicked in. Beyond that Tracy lost her grasp of it all as the overwhelming emotions of everyone in the room hit her.
"Hey, I know you're feeling a little bit better but wow. I mean that was intense. Ya wanna share what that was all about?" Tracy measured her tone and her words, making sure not to push too much but only just enough. Her power acting as a finger on the emotional pulse of her friend. "I think you forget how much I get from things like that and whatever you are dealing with, well it's been building since we got here."
"I'm not one for dragging someone's business out onto the street for all the neighbors to see, and I think you know that to be true about me, but honestly Aideen what is wrong with you? You have been a mess since that last exit on the highway...well, okay not so much a mess then but that was when I felt it first. This is not the same as that guarded way you get at school around you know who, this is completely different." She walked up and gently took the glass from her friend's hand."And what is this you're drinking? PHew..." she made a face as she looked up from smelling what was in that glass "..really? This is what you go to when you have us right here?"
Tracy placed the glass down on the counter top and shook her head as she looked Aideen in the eyes. "Should I be insulted? I bet I know somebody who's going to be but that's between the two of you, I'm just talking about leveling with us, sharing what's bothering you. For instance you could have let us know it wasn't a good idea to come here, that it was going to hurt you too badly." She glanced back to Mason and the way he felt for their friend and team mate. "Mason would have never come, never even asked you to come if he knew it was going to cause you this kind of heartache. He loves you, I love you.. we all felt something for you just then, those people out there- who are strangers to you even care- they care because you are our friend and they know we don't give our hearts to just anyone... You are special to us and you mean the world to Logan. To him, a guy that can recover from any physical injury, this is a pain he can't just heal from, the pain of watching his love suffer in silence and not being able to help."
"I'm telling you this not to make you feel worse so stop that- don't go there with it...shhh, no nooo sweety." She stepped over to take Aideen's hand, feeling her slipping into some kind of self pity and her anger rising and twisting in on herself, and with soothing words and a soothing touch she said "I'm telling you this so you know we want you to be able to feel what you feel and share it with us. You're not a machine Aideen, you're a woman and you are allowed to feel- no, you are entitled to feel. It's expected of you, but you try so hard to squash it that it hurts you and it makes us hurt for you. Please, please listen to me.. you know a hell of a lot about weapons and nobody I have known has come into our world, that school, with more of a grasp on their powers, but when it come to emotions girl you are a lost puppy. Let us help you, open up and share what's driving those feelings. If you don't then one day you are just going to burst."

"Oh I don't know," Aideen said pouring herself some more beer in the glass, feeling the effects of the vodka addle her control. "I think I had been doing pretty good so far, have yet to explode. Its all about the control on your mind." Her voice was soft but with an edge to it. Everything was a blur to her at the moment, the alcohol for just a moment making her memories merge with the present. Even as Tracy spoke to her, she could just see James sitting at that very counter and telling her that she needed to get the stick out of her ass and go so something or other with him. When she blinked her dark eyes, she could almost see the smiling face of her Sergeant standing in his uniform, holding a small cherry blossom for her thats she would hide in the pages of her books to preserve them.
She took a sip of the beer, looking still at the counter space before turning her eyes to look at Tracy, her friend, one of the few she had. "I don't know what you want me to say Tracy. Mason asked me to come, wanted a favor so he can make a name for himself and wanted some time with you, how can I say no?" A slight smirk came on her face, head tilting slightly to let the hair fall over her shoulder as she looked at her friend, eyes soft despite the obvious distance in them. "Mason, God he worked so hard for my friendship. He took every sarcastic comment, everything I threw at him in stride, and did everything he could to gain my trust and my friendship. And you," Aideen's head tilted to the other side as she continued in her quiet soft voice so the conversation stayed between the two of them. "You never told anyone. I know you didn't, if you did I would have sensed the change in the treatment I received from others. You didn't even know me, and you honored my request. Tell me, how after all that, can I deny you both an outing, a chance to escape from the daily harsh life in the school?" She looked at the hand that Tracy held for a moment and then back at her friend, her face devoid of expression.
"You want me to be level? I didn't think coming back here would do this to me. Do you honestly think I would let myself be in a situation where others see me as weak, or vulnerable? That would be impractical," Aideen said quietly shaking her head and putting the half empty glass of beer on the table. "I never asked for pity, I never complained about anything, and I don't intend to start, this will be me levellll-ing," The word was annunciated as it left her lips in a fashion akin to mocking, as the liquor that her body had yet to burn up was having an effect on her control of her behavior. "With you. I had only two friends before I came to the school. One of them is that guy right there." Her eyes moved to the picture of the tall massively built guy leaning over the open hood of a car and showing it off with pride. "And I lost them both. And that's perfectly fine, it happens, I moved on. Then I come into this city, and you know what I see? Ghosts." Her eyes flared with anger, guilt welling up inside her and mingling with the fury, but her voice remained as soft and as quiet as a gentle whisper.
The liquor was starting to burn away, but the fact that she was even talking about something so personal made her slightly angry with herself. "Everywhere I look, everywhere in this god damn city I am surrounded by ghosts from my past. It's not the ghosts that get to me so much as the reminder that comes with them. That everyone I ever care about, everyone that ever meant anything to me will one day be nothing more than a ghost." Her voice was a low whisper, anger laced with fear seethed through every word. "It scares me thinking that I will come back here one day, and the only thing I will have left of you, of Mason... of Logan." She took a moment to compose herself, taking a deep breath as she stared at the picture of James on the wall. "Will be the ghosts of the past. Irrational? Certainly, and I never cared for the irrational."
Aideen paused to take a long sip of the beer, this time not so much as to be numb, but for a dose of liquid courage to finish what she started. She had kept her voice soft and quiet, that over the music there was no way the others could hear, though her concentration and perception was too befuddled by everything to focus on anything other than Tracy. "You want to know what I hate, and I mean really, really hate?" Her dark eyes were flashing with anger, fire sparking in the dark depths from the gentle urging from Tracy to open up with the aide of the liquor. Her face was closer to Tracy's now, heat starting to radiate from her skin from the enmity she held for herself, and her voice dropping to an even lower whisper that even if someone had been in the room with them, they wouldn't have heard. "I hate, that because of this irrational thought process, this irrational set of emotions, I am absolutely terrified beyond anything I have ever comprehended to say anything out loud to Logan about my feelings toward him, because if I do that makes it more real and should something happen, it will hurt that much and more than I care to think," Aideen said in harsh whisper, angry at herself for admitting it, for reminding herself of that well guarded fear. "Because that's just how things are." Each word was annunciated and spoken slowly through her bitter whisper.
Leaning away from Tracy and against the sink, the bitterness of her mood and the fury she felt with herself for succumbing to these emotions radiated in her stare as she looked at the usually calming blue eyes of her friend. "Is that level enough for you? Do you feel better that I shared all this, cause I just feel soooo great!" Aideen mocked in the soft elegant style heavily laced with sarcasm that was all her own. Right now, what she felt was shame and anger at herself, and her inability to control herself and her emotions. The school had changed her as had the new people in her life, and with the horrible feelings that settled on her, she had to question if the change in her was really for the better.

Logan grumbled a little growl under his breath as he considered the night's a ruined wash of what it coulda been but at least I'm outta of the damned monkey suit. Looking on the bright side of things was not his strong suit, so he did what he did best- face down what was challenging him. "Ya just had ta put on that guys clothes." He said to Network, and as he stood up the look of confusion on Mike's face made Logan seethe with animosity.
~SNiKT~ "That guy!" he said, a single claw popping out of his hand to point at a picture of Aideen in her younger years. There was a smile on her face as she played with a dog and a young man in the very same set of stained blue jeans and mechanic's shirt was lifting her up from behind. It was black and white for added effect, the contrast and composition of it was something out of a romantic commercial for a jewelry store. As he looked down the length of his extended claw at the shot he could almost hear the tagline 'A diamond says you'll love her forever'.
His arm dropped as his rage subsided and halfway down he pulled his claw back in with a ~SnAKt~. "Well, I'll say this much for ya Mike, yer luck is holding... and it's all bad. You better hang onta that girl cause she's prob'bly the best thing thats gonna come inta yer life." He looked into the kitchen at Aideen "I'm gonna try and hang onto mine." He turned to square his shoulders and walked into the kitchen, grabbing his beer off the table by the neck as he passed it on the table.
"So we drinking to lost friends and lovers?" He said strolling up to clunk his bottle against Aideen's glass. "Cause I could drink to plenty of ghosts. Oh, and if ya think you cornered the market on loss, Angel Eyes, then you got another thing comin. I don't mean to hurt ya, but let me be real plain about what I got to say here" he took a swig of his drink "I prob'bly lost more people than everybody in here has ever known, but that's part of livin, and I ain't keepin score. I'm just sayin it's what makes the whole thing mean more, makes it more precious than" he thought of the picture "than a diamond."
"I don't know how you were brought up, but I tell ya it don't matter what yer told, or what yer shown- everybody handles loss in their own way. You can walk around seein ghosts of the past all ya want, wont bring em back. I tried it, I finally had to look past em an see what was goin on with the people in my life now." Another sip and he was thinking back to the school, when all these grown people with him were but kids. "These guys can tell ya. I wasn't much for sharin myself, or my past, when they were young. But I'll share this with you now since you're the most important thing in my life and I've grown as a person since then... ya gotta let the dead rest in peace."
"It's what you'd want if it was you that passed away. You wouldn't want your boy over there to keep hurtin himself every time he thought of you. Yeah, Mike's a scrub.. but he didn't know whose clothes they were. Sure it shocked ya, and sure you don't want more loss in yer life- none of us does, but why don'tcha cross that bridge when ya get to it and for now just live yer life." It wasn't a question, it was a suggestion from one who had tried almost every way he could think of to deal with losing people.
"If I didn't know better I might be inclined to think my love ain't good enough for ya if ya keep on goin like this. Like my heart can't give you what you need and you have to go back to a memory of some guy you once knew for that little somethin more. Listen, you never forget your first love, and never forget the friends and family you loose- keep em in here" he thumped his chest "in yer heart and let the memory of their lives and the times you had together honor them. Don't be sad for them since they've gone from this place of pain and sorrow, but if ya want ta cry do it and let the tears be a testament to what you hold in your heart, not just a show of anger or regret."
He wrapped a thick meaty arm around her then and pulled her close to him. His hand came up to gently hold her head to his chest. "Ya hear that? That's my heart, and I honor a lot of people when I cry. I don't do it often, but it don't mean I can't. Now suck that beer down with me here and we'll get another and go back out there an have fun-" he said softly to her as he stroked her hair and cupped his hand over her ear to save it from the volume as he hollered "-CAUSE MIKE'S GONNA GO PUT ON TRACY'S BATHROBE OR SOMETHIN' -RIGHT MIKE?- and that you do NOT want ta miss" as he chuckled the slight gruff grumble bubbled up and away. "It's gonna be alright kitten, just remember what I said, and if you need me I'll always find a way to be there for you- like you did for me."

A sigh left her lips and her hair swung slightly as she shook her head. "No, it's fine let him keep the clothes, I just wasn't prepared to see them," Aideen said softly moving her head away from him and offering a small smile when she looked at his face. "I'm alright, it was just a shock. Really, its just something I hadn't been expecting." The second Logan came in, she had forced herself to calm down and put her anger away for another time. She refused to be one of those girls that did nothing but cause their men grief and frustration, and so far she had prided herself on keeping things at peace. It wasn't like outside situations didn't cause enough stress in their relationship, with Rumble, the fact that she was a student, and them keeping their relationship under wraps. Her own issues didn't need to be added to the mix, nor did she want them to be. Whatever relationship they had, even before it took a physical turn, was always for comfort and peace to escape the craziness around them. Exposing her personal fears and issues would ruin that comfort and peace, a step that she was incredibly reluctant to take.
"Hey," Aideen said looking up at him. "I'm not living in the past okay? Coming back here brought back some memories I wasn't prepared to face, but I'll be alright." Her dark eyes locked on his as she said this, previous attitude melting away at her urging and determination, and a part of her praying that Tracy wouldn't say anything. "I'm not hurting thinking of them, I promise you I'll be fine after some time getting used to it. I didn't expect to end up staying here of all places and it got to me." Her arms wound around his neck loosely and she leaned forward to give him a sweet peck on the lips. "Thank you for putting up with me, and for being here for me," Aideen said with a slight smile, refusing completely to look at Tracy at this point. She wasn't lying to him at all, and it did in fact mean very much that he shared all he had with her. Never being one to push or prod in places that were not her business with anyone, it was a rare treat for Logan to give her that wisdom from the heart and from his past. Her practice was one of selective truth, and that would have to due.
She was grateful that Logan missed a good chunk of what she said, and she was confident that Tracy wouldn't be the one to fill him in. He'd surely be less than happy with her for her doubts on herself and on the people she let into her heart, including him. Aideen didn't live in the past, despite its hauntings, and she knew it wouldn't bring anyone back. It was the future that scared her, the hauntings causing the irrational fear that everyone in her life now would join those other ghosts, a thought she was finding difficult to digest and reminded her why it had been in fact easier when she kept emotions dormant. Easier or not, she was far too selfish to give up the bonds she formed now, and was well aware of the consequences that would come with them. Risking a glance at Tracy from over Logan's shoulder, she met the light eyes of her friend. "Thank you Tracy, and I'm sorry for becoming harsh with you for a moment," Aideen said softly, meaning it. Her stomach was near empty, and the vodka effected her control and Tracy had been there to feel the burn of it. "Tell Mike he can stay comfortable, I don't mind," she added before Tracy left the kitchen.
Dark chocolate eyes locked again with the cobalt blue, offering a small smile to put him at ease about her. "Just to be very clear, I would hardly call anyone from my past a first love." She wanted to say it, say what she knew he knew but just never heard out loud in so many words, but she couldn't. The terror she felt at the thought of the words leaving her lips was too great. Once she said how she felt out loud, it would be cemented and real. Aideen believed that once something was said for someone to hear, it couldn't be taken back. Because of that, it made her heart all that much exposed and liable to be broken. Life made her mind too paranoid to give her heart that power, and in turn caused a conflict within her.
Her hand moved to the place over his heart, feeling the steady beat under elegant soft fingertips. "This though," she bit her lip looking at the place where her hand rested before looking back up at him. "Is more than anything I could have ever imagined or hoped for. Don't ever think that I need more." Her eyes stayed locked on his the whole time, trying her best to let her guard down and at least give him a clue on all she wished that she could say. They say that eyes are the windows to the soul, and though the dark eyes that were passed down a long line of Gypsy descendants that she possessed were more often veiled, moments came forth when the veil was no longer in place just as they were now. Aideen moved back till her back hit the sink before she pushed herself to sit on top of the counter gracefully, legs hanging comfortably as she grabbed her glass again. "You know, I still have a hard time believing that it came to this with the two of us," she said as she refilled the glass with the heavy jug, a slight smile playing on her face as she thought back to how crazy the last couple of months had been, and how now the real chaos was just on the horizon for them.

It took a minute for her to speak, still slightly shocked at the menacing metal claw that Logan popped, making her stare and blink for a second, not sure if she was scared or in awe. Lai didn't shake herself out of it until she heard the order he yelled from the kitchen. "Oh come on, no baby keep the clothes on," she ordered, rolling her eyes at all this. "Whoever that guy is ain't gonna mind that you're borrowing his raggedly old work clothes. I bet if I looked harder, I coulda found you some nicer clothes, but I thought that would definitely be too rude." The college Freshman wasn't having it, not after the night her boyfriend had. He had a chance to be nice and comfortable and she saw no reason for him to not be. "I don't know what the hell she threw a fit for, that was like bi polar on the max. It's just clothes, no big deal." She crossed her arms, not moving away from Mike and glaring straight ahead where Logan had sat.
"Baby, I swear I will kick you if you try and move me off you. Don't let that guy and his stuck up drama queen girlfriend scare you into doing anything. I don't care if he has scary ass claws, you almost died tonight! You can do whatever you want, and if its such an issue, I'll pay for the guy to get new clothes," Lai said planting her legs firmly across his thighs and gave him a 'don't you dare' kind of look. "Na uh, stay put, I mean it!" Her stubborn streak came through at full force and she was feeling full on annoyed at this point. After the night they had, the last thing they needed was a fit being thrown over clothes of all things, and from the girl that had nothing but sarcastic comments to say to Mike all night when he saved them all from being blown up.
"Ok I know we should all be happy and things, but come on tonight was like, the craziest night of my life! The nearest death experience I had before this is that time a cat ran in front of my car and I had to swerve to avoid it! There was a god damn psycho with a bomb ready to set it off cause he had a crazy love for Ingrid, and if Mike hadn't come in we'd all be dead! He was nearly dead if it wouldn't have been for Tracy!" She stopped for a moment and pouted her lips slightly. "Okay fine, so she managed to disarm him and not set off the bombs with a lucky throw with the knife. Fine, I'll say that, but come on! We all been through enough without hot and cold bullshit and it just clothes!" Lai wasn't having it tonight. She was allowed to order Mike to do things, but she was his girlfriend and she put up with his shit, that gave her some rights, but only her. No one else ordered her guy around and she had a damn good reason to be protective after she almost lost him.

"Hey," Mason growled and glared at Lai. "Show some damn respect. This place is more hers than any of ours, and she didn't have to let you in here." He had a little more understanding now that he saw why Aideen froze up, and he kinda saw why now. It had him thinking that maybe it wasn't the best idea to ask her to come here, and he was having his own inner battle that he hadn't even thought to ask if she wanted to come back here. He had been feeling like a first class jackass, and now Mike's girl, who he thought was pretty cool up till now, was mouthing off about his best friend.
"I don't give a damn what you're personal feelings are, she hasn't been anything but polite to either of you, with a sarcastic remark here and there, but nothing that calls for that. You don't gotta stay here if you got an issue," he spat, feeling a little bit bad to interrupt Ingrid's singing, cause it was really cute he had to admit, but Mason didn't stand for anyone insulting his friends. He wasn't blind, he was well aware that Aideen put up with tonight just for him and Tracy, and went out on a limb to get their the reservation at that restaurant. Now that he thought about it, she had made this weekend more about their comfort and happiness than her own, and he felt pretty bad right about now. Next trip, I'm taking her to Vegas. Yeaaa Vegas.
Mason looked back when he heard Tracy come in. "Hey dollface," he smiled slightly and took her hand, bringing her around so he could pull her next to him and kissed the side of her face. "Everything cool Trace?" he whispered throwing his arm around her before looking over at Dylan, still a little annoyed. "So Dylan, what's it like dating THE Ingrid Garbar?" he teased slightly with a smirk, though he was very happy for his former team leader. "You know I always thought you would be like the winner of the Nobel Prize or something, and you'd be hated by all scholars and stuff. Now on top of that, you're hated by 75% of the world for dating one of the bestsellers Maxim's ever seen." He winked at Ingrid, finding himself looking at her less and less as a celebrity, especially with her silly singing and the way she worshiped Dylan.

"Hold up there." Network held a hand up "Ease off the throttle gunslinger." It was Mike's petname for Mason ever since he started to teach him how to really use his pistolas. Time spent in one handed and off handed shooting, in paired combinations and many months of late nights getting Mason to understand what Mike had called.. the gun's point of view. Granting the now Team Captain of the Corsairs the knowledge of how it was to be that weapon, to be held and to be fired, and all the things that went on inside of it. The minutia of detail was never overlooked, even to the extent of how the air moving around the gun contributed to it's tendencies of turning a bullet. The bullet as well, the white hot load of the weapon retched out in hopes of a precise impact and spat forth with furiosity in it's flight to it's intended target, even that was made to be known in it's slightest detail and weeks alone were spent imparting the knowledge of it.
Mike was instrumental in Ironclad's becoming the weapon master he was as they sat before him, he and his cocoa skinned beloved, while the one time wild child disappointed him squealing like some kinda sissy. He hoped it would take his old buddy back in his mind to that time when they were the closest of friends, when nothing came between them."You gonna snap like a gator and then change gears? Look, I tried to squeeze into the clothes Tracy found for me but that just wasn't happening." He said to explain what started the whole thing off so Mason would know his and Lai's confusion. "And you know as well as I that you and Captain Ginsu in there would have survived the bomb, just you two and nobody else," he said by way of talking about the evening since it was such a shock to Lai, and turning to her continued "without a team effort, so the whole 'who did what' is not an issue..." He squeezed Lai slightly as he looked at her and said softly to her to make sure she understood "..that was an amazing throw though, but we all do our part in these kind of things."
He was steamed now, more so about the way Mason had snapped at Lai than anything the old man had done. The look in her eyes had shown him how wounded she was inside, even if she never owned up to it or showed it outwardly and the only other person who would know would be Tracy, so he figured at least she would understand why he went off a second later as he turned back to Mason. "I don't get what the big deal is killah, what'd Aideen snap for, it's just some clothes." He was still not getting why Aideen lost it and was sort of asking Mason if he got it as he built to the root of the problem as he saw it. "Now as for how you talk to my Lady.. since all the crap about my wardrobe is bullshit anyway.. well brother, you need to check yourself. She's new to all this and that's my fault. I'll take the hit for not telling her, but you! You gotten so salty that you forget what it's like to be out amongst people who don't know what it's like? Give her some slack and apologize ya Twinkie," a grin started to curl the corners of his mouth "or I'm gonna kick your impenetrable skinned ass up the block!" Mike was all fire and brimstone when it came to the business end of what he was saying, but there was really no hard feelings to his one time apprentice in the art of gunslingery. His tone in fact softened when he got to the Twinkie part, so that he was smiling by the end of his little tirade.

"Its an old friend of hers that lived here and died, probably just shocked her to see you wear his stuff," Mason said in the same level voice not wanting to spread Aideen's business, but felt they at least deserved a basic explanation and giving his old friend respect enough not to snap again. It wasn't hard since he was never one to yell or get loud for no reason. "All that aside on whether ya knew the deal or not, mouthing off like that about Aideen was damn uncalled for and I ain't apologizing for it, same as I wouldn't if it was anyone else I call a friend. It ain't about being new to this or any of that, plainly on the name calling and that hostility that wasn't called for. I'm sorry if the tone came out too harsh, but I call it how I see it." Normally he wouldn't apologize at all, but Cyclops had been pounding it in his head that he had to be more diplomatic when it came to talking to humans as a mutant, and a good deal of it stuck with him since he got his act together. And so very true were the statements made, as being called Ironclad didn't just revolve around his power. It related to his strong will and unwavering loyalty, one that was tested time and time again that always passed.
He took a long sip of the beer, remaining just as cool as before. "It's simple as that man, it's how its always been with me. I'm cool, been from the start, there are just some things that I don't care to hear and if I hear them, I ain't silent about it," Mason looked at Mike evenly, not mad or anything just feeling as he said. "Looks like it's been way too long since we chilled huh Mike?" he said in a similar tone that Mike used a moment ago with a smirk, tossing him a new beer.

Dylan and Ingrid had been looking around uneasily slightly, Ingrid trying to drag him to dance was cut short by it all. At that moment though, he perked up at the mention of something he could perhaps make relate to the situation at hand. "Oh well that makes sense why she looked like she saw a ghost then, by seeing Mike wear old familiar clothes she actually did see a ghost, seeing as they have a similar build and height, her mind must have automatically associated for a split second that her friend did come back from the dead," he said going on again. He did after all have a Ph. D in Psychology among other things, and he tended to talk about such matters with ease.
"It's really interesting how the human mind works when met with shock. The body response is automatic and the mind for a moment mixes the past with the present when met with a strong reminder of their past. It could be visual, or something triggered by smell or by a sound, and once in awhile by taste. Depending how strong the reminder is, it can have a direct effect on perception of time and mix old emotions with new ones and then once in awhile you-" Dylan stopped short when he saw them all staring at him. "Yea, I know, 'Shut it Dylan'," he said shaking his head side to side knowingly and taking a sip of the wine.
He looked between all of them for a sign of what the next level would be. "So I'm thinking we could all dial it down tonight. It was a hard night, and we could do without fights. We had a bunch of them at the school to know its not worth it right?" Dylan looked between his two old teammates for a reaction. "Can we relax like we did after a hard danger room session? You guys remember that, all of us hanging out in Kelly's room and watching him scream at the television? Well, Kelly may not be here but we can still relax and have a good time," he suggested and smiled slightly at all of them, hoping the tension would disappear.
