The tables were set out in a long row at a buffet, strategically placed by Hank McCoy himself. The tables were filling up with food, everything from the different variety of chips to the salads that many worked hard to make, including a giant bowl of Sky's famous Potato Salad. The grill was warming up with Cyclops manning the giant industrial metal and brick grill. Hank just wheeled out the large cooler for the children with all the soft drinks and soda and was now lighting the torches to keep bugs away from the food.
He was actually enjoying himself then, and in a much better mood than he was earlier. Kevin looked like he would be alright, and he didn't deal with anymore injuries for the day, spending the remaining time with Bobby in his office, just talking about old times and their thoughts on the kids. Hank wondered why he didn't have more people come and see him, for he expected Fleet for his appointment and the Paragons to check on their injuries and receive their medication. He even expected Frostbite to arrive, but saw nothing but a brief glimpse of her. Shame and grief did amazing things to people though.
"Scott, don't fire it up all the way yet, they are still marinating the meat. I just got reprimanded when I tried to bring it out to you," Hank said with a chuckle and looked over at Colossus and Ian pulling the picnic tables forward. "Kitty said she'll be out in a minute with the table cloths!" he called to them while lighting the last torch. "Now... where did I put those napkins..." He looked around for the plastic bag with the napkins that he placed somewhere just a moment ago and for the life of him couldn't remember where.

"Chase if you try sticking your finger in my potato salad one more time, I'll turn your ass into a hat!" Sky yelled coming out of the kitchen with a bowl of Watermelon and Goat Cheese salad and and another one of a classic BLT salad. She spent most of the morning cooking for the barbecue, per the request of many. She spent most of the morning making a huge bowl of her potato salad, and back up bowls with it. Cooking was one of Sky's things, and she was damn good at it. She even got all the stuff together to make barbecued pizza and made her own potato chips that filled a huge bowl in the center of the tables. No thanks to Chase, it took her a bit longer to make the dip cause he kept bothering her.
"Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?" she sang setting the bowl on the table, having been in an odd mood to sing Queen all day, probably because she was watching Wayne's World while making all this food. "Caught in a landslide. No escape from reality. Open your eyes, look up to the skies and seeeee." Sky twirled around and set the other bowl on the table, all the while singing. "I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy. Because I'm easy come, easy go. Little high, little low," Sky sang even able to make the voice pitch correct. "Any way the wind blows, doesn't really matter to meeeee, toooooo meeeeeeeeeee."
She grinned at choice and then made her voice total typical stoner like, which reminded her a bit of Ian's voice. "Party on Garth." She did a fist bump with him and grinned. "Hey where's Titless at? She tracked mud all over our god damn room so I used all her clean underwear to clean it up. I think I made her a little mad," Sky said with an impish grin. "Oh sweet drinks! Hey..." She looked around to make sure the others weren't paying attention before she whispered to Chase. "Ya think they'll bring beer out?"

Gavin at that moment came out of the kitchen with his guitar slung over his back and his arms full of packages of paper plates and bags of plastic cups. "Hey Doc, you got the okay to come for the burgers and hot dogs, but not the steak or chicken. The Nazi Cook over there is threatening to disintegrate the clothes of anyone who touches them," he said looking over at Sky with a teasing grin. She was really chill most of the time, but damn she was one major hardass when it came to the kitchen and her cooking. The kitchen smelled amazing though, and the smells wafted all the way outside.
"Better get back in there Sky, someone might breath on the meat and then it will be ruined! OOOHH NOOOOO!" Gavin said in a high girly voice just to play around. "Anything but that!" He unwrapped the paper plates and set them on the table that had all the utensils on it. "And I don't know what that amazing spicy smell is, but it's driving me nuts," he said smelling the scents coming from the kitchen. There were so many people cooking and so much food that he didn't know what was what at this point. He even some some more new girls in there, and he wasn't sure but he thought they might have been cooking too. He was too into trying to sneak a taste of the food to introduce himself.
"Okay my parts done," he said after arranging the paper plates and cups. "I'll guard the food from now on." Gavin grinned widely and tried to look as innocent as possible. He moved to sit on the table of one of the picnic tables and moved his guitar in front of him. His 1959 Les Paul Sunburst Reissue Amber Honeyburst Electric Guitar was his pride and joy, a present for his parents for his fourteenth birthday. He took amazing care of it, knowing it's worth, but also its quality. From the second he had it in his hands, he knew that it was the guitar for him. Les Paul himself was always an idol of a sort to Gavin, and it was through him that he taught himself to play the guitar. Les Paul wasn't as well known as he should be to those that didn't study music, but Gavin couldn't get enough of the way the guy played, managing to imitate his unique style fairly well with his own twist on it. His fingers strummed the tune of 'Bye Bye Blues,' knowing that people probably wouldn't know the songs, but he felt like showing off his skills.

"Party on Waaay-hey!?! When did I become Garth?" Chase said all indignantly. "Oh mon if it wasn't for you being such a good -cough- cook and -cough cough- whatever" he grinned at her knowing she would know what he was talking about but with 'Big Blue' standing right there he didn't want to put their extracurricular activities on front street "I would be sooo pink-bellyin' you right now."
He thought how to answer her about their third musketeer and he shrugged. "Dunno where Ripple went to, but wait!?! She owns clean underwear? Woah, it's so true, you do learn somethin new every day. I for one never pegged her as the clean underwear havin sort, but heh what do I know." He tickled her a little as they jostled back and forth.
When she leaned in and whispered to him about the brews he went all Mission Impossible mode and tackled her to the ground. Rolling together with her in his arms under the nearest table he shhhushed her loudly. "Duude, I got that covered. You forget these people all have like freak-o sensitive hearing?" Smackling his palm onto her forehead like a suction cup he pulsed it and squeezed with his fingers wrapped around her head and into her hair as he made a sucking noise. "Those birth control pills rotting your brains or what? Oh man I was wondering if you went through with that pezz trick you were thinking about, you remember? On titless's pills?"

Meanwhile, Veronika and her friends were already lounging by the pool, sunbathing in the warm sun and letting the breeze skim across their skin. She was showing off her new designer bikini that her mother brought for her. It wasn't even in stores yet, her mother got one from her from one of her fashion shows. It looked amazing on Veronika, and she wanted everyone else to see it too. "Oh Kris darling,as long as you are getting up, would you be a darling and get me a refill of sparkling water?" She asked leaning up from the pool chair where she laid on her stomach She blew Kris a kiss and settled back down on the chair. "I do hope the food is at least decent. I don't know how much charred meat I would eat. I do long for our Chef back at my home. I told you about him yes?" she said looking over at her friend in the next chair over. "Oh he is just wonderful! He specializes in Russian food, but knows other cuisines very well. I do miss his Beef Stroganov, it is simply heavenly! Ana you must come with me next time I go home, oh you will simply love it! Just ask Heather!" Veronika smiled proudly and moved the hair from her back so her alabaster skin could get that lovely sunlit glow.

Maddy carefully opened the door of the kitchen with a huge bowl of steaming hot spicy jambalaya, so spicy that if she wasn't used to it her eyes would be watering. "That's Les Paul ain't it? An' Ah don't just mean that gorgeous guitar of yours," she said to the sexy winged rocker with a grin while moving a headphone off her ear to listen to him better. Her brother back at home was in a jazz band, and she had a love of music cause of him, anything from the blues to rock to big band. It was impossible to live in Baton Rouge and New Orleans without developing a good ear for music.
She set the jambalaya carefully on the table, not wanting it to get in the way of anything else. Maddy knew what it was like to try and fit into a new place, and she wasn't spending her first day stepping on anyone's toes. As of now she was just feeling the place out and the people as well, but when she heard that sweet sound that could only be made by a Les Paul guitar, she had to say something. "That is some sweet sound right there, ya play it well," Maddy said with a smile. "Ah'm peggin' ya an Eric Clapton fan. Am Ah right? Cause if Ah am, looks like we got something in common." She looked down at her Eric Clapton shirt with the bottom hem torn off and exposing her stomach and belly button ring.
The back of her tongue hit the back of her teeth in a clicking sound as her light green eyes admired the guitar, knowing her brother would kill to own one. The brilliant brass bridge saddles were kept clean and shining, just like the polished wood of the body. "Ah gotta say Ah'm jealous, Ah may not play, but Ah do love that sound," Maddy said with that Cajun accent that had a light Creole twang in it. She took her time to admire the guitar's owner too, but discreetly for now. It was impossible not to, he was hot like nothing else, but Maddy wasn't one an easy enough of a girl to arrive some place new and set eyes on someone in only a couple of hours.

"Ugh is that who that is? I know that song." k'8 said as she followed the newest new girl out with a huge tray of cornbread. It was a recipe she got when she spoke to Sean's mom on the phone once and she had been dying to try it. "Yeah, oh my old Aunt used to play that all the time. Her and my Grammy used to sing along with it. I'm not sure but I think it's what drove me to cutting." She tried to make a joke of it but then she saw the looks on everybody's faces and opted to concede to Gavin's excellent rendition of the music that she now had some token of fondness for.
Placing the tray of cornbread down on the table, the aroma wafting up off of it and mixing with the jambalaya made for a mouthwatering combo, she began to snap her fingers and sing along. "Bye bye bluu-uues, bye bye bluu-uues, don't cry - don't sigh, sun is shinin - no more pining, -----" she hummed a bit since she didn't know the next part but she kept good time with StormHawk and bounced her little body in a way that was just like her Aunt and Grams, reminiscent of a bygone era. "-- don't sigh, don't cry bye - bye - blues."
The little jam session had her thinking back to her home. She thought how unfair she had been to her little torn apart family, now that she had some perspective on things. k'8 had never been told any details of anything about her mother, just how sick she had been from giving birth to her. It wasn't very fair she had often thought and her life had reflected that mindset, but now things were distinctly different. "Wow, Gavin that is amazing. Thanks."
She kept her mind rolling back and wondering about a great many things about her lineage. She knew now who her father was and she could she the aged faces of her Aunt and her even older Grammy, but it didn't really add up in her mind. Her mother, she was told, had been very young when she had her. Yet her Aunt was old enough to be her Grandmother, and her Grammy was older than dirt. She smiled wistfully as she thought about them and considered even placing a call back home as she bounced her shoulders and snapped her way over to Sean. "Hey, you clean up nice!" she grinned at him pecking his cheek with a kiss.

"Gotcha Hank. How long do they want that stuff to soak?" He grinned as he reached over and cut back the heat. He had a few hot dogs and some burgers on already, but the crazy wild stuff like the lobster tails and the steaks were yet to come. "I have some space over here for some corn on the cob. Did anybody shuck the corn?" he asked calling over to the kids nearby.
"Alriight I have a few hotdogs almost ready, burgers'll be done soon too... who wants cheese on their meat?" He stood looking at the hungry faces and watching the little performance by StormHawk and D'mnchyld. "Oh now that is an old song, how do you know it Stor- uh, Gavin?" he was trying to be a little less with the whole codename thing. It was his way of loosening up and getting friendly with the kids.

The heat of the grill was absolutely nothing compared to the wonderfully amazing smell of cooking meat. A big happy, anticipating smile was on Lurai's face as she hovered around the grill area, creeping around behind it and looking over to see the numerous beefy hot dogs and delicious looking hamburgers, still not yet done but still so good looking. It didn't even matter if they were cooked or not, they would be a welcome addition to Lurai's stomach any day. "Me, Cyclops, sir, I would like cheese on my burgers," she said to him with a toothy smile as she continued watching every single piece of meat hungrily, thinking of how happy she would be if she could have every single one of them. She knew she couldn't though, because there were plenty of other people, especially boys with black holes for stomachs like her brother, who had to eat too.
That is not a matter...I will be the first to have the choicest picks of meat... Lurai thought with a smirk to herself before she tore her eyes away from the food on the grill to the headmaster. "How well will you be cooking them? I would like a couple burgers please, you can leave them a little on the rarer side if you want because it is all the same to me," she told him, the toothy grin replacing the little smirk she had on as she inched from around the back of the grill to the side to watch everything better. This had been the smell that stopped her run after coming out to the stables, and although she loved running like nothing else, stopping for some nice grilled meat was so very worth it. For right now, Cyclops was her best friend.

Fleet was hanging out over in the hot tub. Getting a good soak on his sore bod and chilling out as he watched the fine ladies on his team and the other girls who they lowered themselves to be around. He had said 'Hey' as he walked gingerly past Veronika and the other sunbathers. He wasn't interested in too much conversation but he was cool with his team-mates.
He had to take it slow, which was something he was not even close to used to, coming back to a team that didn't even hardly know him was strange. It was even weird how the people he knew from before seemed different in a way and he wondered how much life altering shit he had missed being home recuperating. Soaking in the warmth of the sun's rays and the heat of the water he felt almost like a new man- almost.
He saw everybody making a fuss about the picnic and in happier days he might have been amongst the group to be helping with the food or the place settings, but now he was not a happy camper. He hated almost everything about this place right now. His team was not willing to let him be close to them, he could see how they were around him and it might have smoothed things out if he had pulled his weight in the team practice, but he just couldn't.
He was to beat up and his body was wracked with pain from his 'tests' in Beast's lab. He used to like going to the doctor, but after the stunt Haven pulled he doubted he would be showing his face there very often, especially since she was the goddamn lab ASSistant. It was a bitch to make himself useful, but he did his best and at least he thought that Chase appreciated him. Veronika who was looking so fly over in her bikini though he was pretty sure he did not impress. At least he still had Frostbite to 'chill' with if the rest of them gave him grief, she was always sweet and he was pretty sure that could never change.
Watching as Veronika ordered another drink from Kris, Kyle couldn't help thought how stuck up she seemed to be. 'Go on Kris, you just kiss her ass you little fag. I can't believe this team. What the hell happened to it? The only good additions are Frostbite, Glitch, Sky and Freeze-Frame. Me and Ripple don't need any of these other kids. They just make us look bad.' Kyle thought as he wet his face and hair with the water and ducked down in it until he was up to his neck.

"Mmm, nothin' better than the smell o' charred meat, as I always said," Riker said as the screen door slammed behind him. He walked over to Cyclops with a tray of season uncooked chicken and a bottle of glaze. "Ya got strict instructions sir, that yer to pour a wee bit o' this glaze on the chicken when ya turn a side ove'. Tis right frem Karma's mouth, an' small as sweet as she be, I ain't gonna be the one to cross her," he said with a laugh as he set the tray by the giant grill.
He took a long sniff of the air and grinned while patting his stomach. "Aye, if ya all had a nose like me own, the scent in the air be bloody amazing right now. I dun know 'bout all o' ya but I can't resist waitin' no more." Riker grabbed a plate and began loading it up with the food on the table, including some of that homemade potato chips and half his plate was dedicated to Sky's potato salad. "Now this be what I was waiting for..." He took a huge spoonful of the potato salad and shoved it in his mouth. "MmmmmMMmmMMMMMM oh bloody hell Sky, I would very well marry ya just fer the salad. An' yer tit- uhh titillatin' conversation," Riker said looking between Beast and Cyclops as inconspicuously as possible.
"Mmmm bloody hell this be amazin'. Hey!" he looked around right then to see who else was out here. "Where be Kat? Was she not behind me jus' a minute ago?" Riker looked around for his new fascination. He did stop briefly to admire the new girl and her unique look. She was a looker too, and he was thanking god for all the lovely ladies he had to look at.

Lorelai was still kicking herself for ultimately chickening out at the door to the med lab. She had no sooner started to open it before closing it, losing any resolve she had at the thought of facing three people who had issues with her all at once. She had walked quickly back to her room, not even noticing Kyle, and pacing while cursing herself out for having no guts. She still wasn't happy with herself for it, but it didn't stop her from actually going outside to the cookout. She had found she was extremely hungry, and it seemed that all the food in the kitchen was already used for meals and outside to be on tables and meat to be grilled. She would've preferred just eating on her own, but she also realized that she couldn't just live in her room by herself forever.
Her entrance outside was quiet, and she hoped she wasn't seen. Still her face looked blank, but it had grown a slightly negative expression because she wasn't resolved with the fear she realized might happen if she didn't move. Once now she missed an opportunity, and she didn't want to miss it again, however when she saw Beast around with the other teachers in a good mood, she didn't want to mess it up for him because she didn't have it in her to just go into the med lab and ask for the pill in private. She didn't need to ruin another person's mood and make them angry at her.
Lorelai's body still felt sore, but it didn't occur to her nearly as much as it would have because she was so preoccupied with not permanently ruining her life from one truly stupid mistake. Her stomach growled at her as she glanced at the food, and she realized it had been almost a day since she had last eaten, and with everything she dealt with and was still dealing with, she was starving. Slinking around to the furthest end of the table away from a group of people she didn't want to talk to, she took a plate and piled some chips onto it and some cold cuts before turning to sit somewhere where she might sit alone while she ate. Her eyes scanned around everywhere; people were starting to pile in, and she looked again at the teachers, looking for Bobby. As much as it made her feel all the more guilty and horribly about him, she wanted to talk to him and apologize for everything because he tried to help her out before she could fall too far. She wanted to go speak to him, but she was afraid to because of how he might look at her disdainfully, or if he might actually refuse to speak to her. She thought then that maybe she could chicken out some and burn a little time before going to him by eating and watching everyone else have fun, so she did.

"Are you kidding me? I love Les Paul, that guy is a total legend. My dad was a big fan, and when I heard him as a kid, he's the one who made me want to learn," Gavin said with a grin to Cyclops, pleasantly surprised that playing the song was the result of ever hearing his first name leave the Headmaster's mouth, finishing the song with ease. He glanced over at the new girl and grinned big at her. "I am not only a Les Paul fan, Eric Clapton is the man!" The next sound from the guitar was the tune to 'Change the World', his head bobbing to the tune. "That I could chaaa-EEee-ange the worrrld. I would be the sunlight in your univerrrrrse. You will think my love is really something good," Gavin sang in his light baritone voice that bordered on alto. "Baaayby if I couuuld chaaa-EEEee-ange... the world."
Gavin grinned at the girl and continued playing the song, just cause he wanted to show off a bit and yea, he was a huge Clapton fan. "You know Les Paul, and an Eric Clapton fan? If you're a Hendrix and Muddy Waters fan, you may just be my musical soulmate," he said with a grin and stuck his hand out. "Name's Gavin, and I don't know if anyone told you but you got the coolest accent ever." He placed his guitar behind him and hopped from the table. "So that spicy smell is from that stuff you were making? Not to brag or anything, but I can take it as spicy as it goes. I drink hot sauce for a snack," Gavin said with a playful grin.
Anyone who knew Les Paul and complimented his guitar was instantly on his good side. That, and this girl had an awesome look to her, and the Eric Clapton shirt was a big plus, especially in that style. "And just for that, I'm gonna try some of this... jambalaya right? And I'm actually gonna have a bite before I put more hot sauce on it, cause I'm just that cool." He took a big helping of the dish and took a bite. His eyes popped open wide and he swore steam could have come out of his ears. The spicy hot dish made that hot salsa that Sky made seem like ketchup. "Uh wow." He shoved a whole piece of cornbread in his mouth to ease it a bit. "THAT is awesome. I haven't had anything that spicy ever!" Gavin complimented before looking at K'8. "How someone as small as you has a high tolerance for stuff this spicy, I'll never know." He took another bite of the jambalaya and winked at the new girl.

"OK, yea! Right there is good." Niki said directing the two very muscled men of her team in moving the last picnic table into place. "It's good enough at least, hold on." she walked up and checked that it wasn't wobbly. "Fantastic, of course. Was there ever a moment's doubt?" Grinning she threw an arm around Ian's neck. "So what first? Food or surfing?" she glanced around looking for Heather.
"Well I don't see our walkin talkin wave machine anywhere, so I guess you want to-" he glancing eyes caught sight of Frostbite and she paused her sentence. "...eat?" Niki didn't know if she hated Lorelai, in fact she really had no time for the girl who hardly raised a blip on her radar, at least until lately. However since the icebender decided to take sides against her and her room mate and her man, cozying up with the one person who they all detested without compromise or equal, Haven had an entirely different opinion of the girl. She was fed up with all the talk of her and what with her conspicuous absence now broken Niki shook her head and nodded in Loreai's direction. "Somebody eatin for two?"
She had to snikker at her own off color remark and turned to nuzzle her nose into Ian's neck right by his ear. Whispering to him, "I could go for a nibble" she pulled his earlobe in between her lips and nibbled it softly for just a second or two. "You want a burger? I think Cyke just was askin who wants what. Ya wanna?" Looking into his eyes, knowing what his answer would be as she knew her man in oh so many wild and wonderful ways. "Alright Papi, let's go."

"That sound very nice, I would like much to try," Ana said stretching her back out in a cat like manner before laying back down on her stomach on the lounge chair next to Veronika. She too wore the new designer bikini that Veronika bought her. That girl had an eye for clothes and her size, because it fit her thin shape perfectly. "Our cook at home cook for all our diets. He makes the yogurt from scratch, having fresh cow milk brought to him," she said with a smile thinking of home. Small as she was in a tiny bikini when it was still only spring, it felt like summer to Ana. It was always cold in Finland, and this weather was more like mid summer than anything else. She had a high tolerance for the cold, even sunbathing sometimes in the winter on her balcony. To her, this weather was heaven. Her pale blue eyes lit up in glee when she spotted Frostbite. "Well, look who decide to show their face," Ana said to Veronika in a low voice, smirking. "I not think she could show face after being Rumble little plaything. Perhaps she look for him some more?" She giggled and reached over to take a sip of her detox drink. "I hope Rumble come, just to see him and if he do anything," Ana said with a giggle. She also caught sight of that weird looking kid with the white hair who was here one time injured, and then disappeared for two months injured only to show up again and be injured. "Did he say something earlier? Oh how you say, 'as if'?" She giggled and again and went back to glancing at Frostbite and laughing to herself at the expense of others.
